Repentance is required for all would be born again believers. Look up in your KJV Bible concordance, for multiple references. I think the main reason for repentance of sin is that people think themselves to a good person, and the ignorance of their condition is one they don't want to admit to. Pride is the culprit and as Jesus said "unless you humble yourself as a little child, you cannot enter the Kingdom of heaven
