Bible version, which one do you think is most accurate?

There is King James Version which I currently use.
But I know there are some modern translations done by non-profit groups.
What bible version do you think is most trusty?
I don't trust NIV, because how it conflicts with KJV. And I believe NIV was translated from KJV.
I was looking for bible version that has been translated from greek, hewbrew texts. Modern.

KJV I feel is relatively most accurate but with with AI, I go straight to the Greek or Hebrew and exegete from there if I want to do a deep dive into a particular verse. Otherwise I'm using the ESV now.

With AI, you can also search up historical commentaries. For nuanced perspective from the Church fathers. It's like a PHD in theology at your fingertips for free.

Hello friend,

I believe in the doctrine of Preservation of the Holy Scriptures. That means that God provodentially kept His Written Word correct throughout history in spite of Satan's attacks since the beginning of time.

"The words of the Lord are pure words."
Psalm 12:6 KJV

The vast majority of modern translations are from the original Greek and Hebrew, including NIV. I used the NIV, NASB and Amplified for many years. They have their pros and cons.

The problem is that they are translated by people. Everyone has a bias to some degree. I often compare versions. That's why I use Bible hub.

The reality is that the best Bible is the one that you are reading and studying. I do not use the KJV as the language is archaic and often makes no sense to someone not raised with it.

When I was first saved, everyone used the KJV. Every message I heard included an explanation of where the KJV was poorly translated or the words had changed meaning over the centuries. So I decided to find a translation that bypassed the middle man, so to speak. At that time, NASB had just come out. It was pretty much word for word and hard to read for that reason. NIV is more an interpretation.

I now use the Berean. It seems to be a good balance between readability and accuracy. Is it perfect? No. Is it good enough? Yes. It's also free, which is nice.

KJV, ASV, RSV and NKJV are based on the same texts. A lot of KJV people like the NKJV. The choice is yours!

Choose from the bible buffet that folks choose what tastes best, However, I think you are more interested in which is correct.

"Colossians 2:2That their hearts might be comforted, being knit together in love, and unto all riches of the full assurance of understanding, to the acknowledgement of the mystery of God, and of the Father, and of Christ; 3In whom are hid all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. 4And this I say, lest any man should beguile you with enticing words."

In my studies I found no English version perfect. I was raised on the RSV version and still prefer it. I do enjoy using Bible Gateway where I can look at all the English versions for comparison
 
The KJV is pretty good. I find Young's literal a tad more accurate. It think the critical Greek text to be inferior, but not cataclysmicaly so. Much is lost in going from one language to another. Even though Wuest uses the critical text he does contribute more insight from the Greek particularly with verb tenses.

My opinion and experience is similar to yours, except at the time I wanted to switch from the KJV to a modern English Bible the NEB had just been published, so I used it until the TEV was published that I liked well enough to try memorizing portions, but when I was ordained in 1982 the NIV had been published, which is the version I used while writing my systematic theology, although I also read the ASB my daughter gave me in 2010.

Like HAH, I also believe God has ensured that the oldest extant versions were translated correctly enough to accomplish His purpose for inspiring them. Like Ot, I think no version is perfect, but as an evangelist once said, "Put 'em in the tank and they all burn."

Yes, I had an NEB and a Berkely version as well. I did not like the RSV or the Good News Bible. Oddly, I left my car window open one hot night in Sydney. Someone got into the glove box and stole the Bible and a Christian tape!

If I really want to enjoy my Bible study, I make use of every available version, lol.
As for the main, I think it's KJV, but because of the maketh, doeth, saith, I think NKJV is simplified.
AMP, NLT, MSG, KJV, NKJV, Goodnews, RSV... I love to use all together. It helps one understand the Bible more.

Do you see that you have assumed the KJV is correct? It is just as rational to distrust the KJV because of how it “conflicts” with the NIV. You have also made an assumption about the NIV development process. Neither assumption is valid.

The original-language text is the reference against which you should measure every translation.

...with the realization that the original language texts are not the original texts but merely the extant iterations.

I mostly use the ESV. I have two other study bibles, one with NKJV and one with NIV. I also have a daily chronological study Bible, also with NIV.

I don't care for English Bibles with archaic language. It seems a waste of time to have to translate the translation into the words we use today. As someone stated above, the best Bible is the one you use.

For myself, I use the King James primarily. I compare to the LITV, the YLT, HCSB, and the MMS. In past times I've extensively used the NASB, NIV, NLT, and ESV, however, I've come to believe the preserved word of God is in the Byzantine manuscript family.

Welcome to Christian Chat.

There are few pastors who reveal where the English translations originated from I have a few videos that get into that essential topic if you are interested. I will post one first that goes into the New KJV.

 
I found a copy from 2002 of an ESV. I was planning on reading it. Maybe I'll see if biblegateway.com has ESV in audio?

Oh, yes you are correct. I was wanting modern translation that was accurate.
