LUKE 18:18-22
18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life?

19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God.

20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother.

21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up.

22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me.

The keyeth to understanding this thiseth is 'one thing thou lackest". This is God's challenge to everyone who seeks to follow Jesus faithfully. For the rich man, it was his wealth. For some, it could be a business, the pursuit of a degree, a relationship, family or a number of otherwise acceptable goals. I faced that dilemma several times. Only by the grace of God could I let go of some things.

Lord Jesus also answered the ruler according to the ruler's "What must I doeth?" Lord Jesus said, "Doeth the impossibleth - for you". The man was self righteous, never a good start. "God be merciful to me, a sinner" is the only approach that God accepts.

Getting born again initially gives us the ability to see the Kingdom of God. Experiencing deliverance from the habits and false concepts of the old life takes time. We do not progress by what we gain, but rather by what we lose. (Matthew 16:25)

The believer already has everything that God can give him in Christ. The question is whether or not we choose to live out of who we were in Adam or who we are now in Christ. The old life is tenacious and deceptive. It promises us everything as long as it can survive. God condemns everything that is not of His Son. If we could improve ourselves to God's satisfaction, Jesus need not have died.

We get one life on earth which prepares us for eternity. Jesus has a place for us in His kingdom. That place depends on how much we are willing to forsake in this life for His sake. God knows those things that are a hindrance. Very often, He will give them back when they are no longer a snare. I did not see my son for 15 years. For sure it was not my idea! He was 6 when I saw him before that. That was hard. My wife and I had lunch with him today. He's 37 tomorrow. We get together a few times a year and we get on well.

I believe there r two answers to this, firstly Jesus is speaking to a specific person , he is specifically inviting that person to b a true desciple , give up your riches , stop trusting in them to keep u alive and safe , put your trust in God and in me , show your faith ! Follow me , while I'm here and u can see and hear me , follow me , if u can't follow me while I'm here , in person , if u can't trust me while u can see me , how r u going to put your life in my hands when I'm not physically here and u can't see me or here my voice literally ?
Then there is the message to us , we must not trust in our possessions to save us from anything , not our money our bricks and mortar , in the very last days before Christ return , there r going to b some very scary and hard times . We may die . We may suffer hunger and thirst etc , who knows what the crazy people who think they run the world will get up to and put us all through . If we think that our money can save us from a nuclear bomb or a disease etc , we really r fools . We have to truly believe this , that only God saves and that He saves us through our faith in His Son . If we physically die , so what ? We live forever in Christ . This can only happen if we have a relationship with our God and with our Saviour , there is no other way . Use your resources for good , b generous and don't fear losing the chains and shackles that bind u to this life when u should b preparing for the life to come . Jesus is the Way , the only way , keep your eyes on him and not on your bank balance !

Those of Israel that were to be born again (Ezek 36) to enter the earthly kingdom could not have divided loyalties (God and mamon). Just like those in Jerusalem had everything in common while they waited for the promised kingdom, they severed attachments to this world. Since the nation largely remained disinterested in the offered kingdom, the new covenant was not established. The first covenant required the agreement of the nation. This agreement will come from a faithful remnant of Israel at the end of the tribulation. Then the new covenant will be accepted and the earthly kingdom established.

Sometimes I think that you must be brought very low, to be humbled to the point of knowing that you {lack the ability to live life without God}. This is what it sometimes takes to make one turn to Him in faith. . . . Strange what the Holy Spirit can do to a person.

God made the new covenant with the houses of Israel and Judah in the persons of the 11 disciples. The believing remnant of Israel and Judah were grafted into that covenant starting at Pentecost. What you are describing makes absolutely no sense.

The willingness to give all or everything. Not that you give up everything and live in the mountains as a monk. But that you are willing to give your own son if need be, if it is His will. How bad do you want it?

Jesus said to inherit eternal life to keep the law that has to do with loving people.

But the rich man said he did that but Jesus said he lacked one thing.

And that is to sell all that he has and give to the poor which is love.

For love is the fulfilling of the law.

Charity, love in action, is greater than faith.

And faith works by love.

No love then no faith then no salvation.

The Bible says that if any person preaches godliness is gain withdraw from them.

Having food and clothing be content .

For the love of money is the root of all evil for it neglects the poor and needy which is not love.

Act 2:44 And all that believed were together, and had all things common;
Act 2:45 And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.

Act 4:34 Neither was there any among them that lacked: for as many as were possessors of lands or houses sold them, and brought the prices of the things that were sold,
Act 4:35 And laid them down at the apostles' feet: and distribution was made unto every man according as he had need.

The early Church sold their things that was not a necessity and the money was distributed to the people that had need.

Rev 2:4 Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love.

This Church was neglecting that.

Rev 3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
Rev 3:16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
Rev 3:17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked.

This Church was neglecting it more along with more hypocrisy.

Millions of people claiming Christianity living this lifestyle loving money and their wants believing God is blessing them that way.

But that is not love.

Then their faith is no good.

So they do not have saving faith.

For true faith has the right perspective of God's kingdom that it is love.

Not everyone that says Lord Lord will enter heaven.

And many are called but few are chosen.

God said He wants all people to be saved.

They should understand what the Bible is saying.

But the Bible says they love sin more than God and do not come to the truth.

Surrender. That is how you follow Jesus complete and utter surrender,
Great! Now what do we do with all these Confusing doctrines?:

1) Some say: "speak in tongues" OR "you do NOT have The Holy Spirit, and are NOT Saved"

2) Some say: "obey the Mosaic Law" OR "you are Not Saved"

3) Some say: "disobeying water baptism" And "you are Not saved" etc. etc. etc.

Only ONE way I know of: "Rightly Dividing" God's Precious Word Of Truth,
finding out Which Commandments Exactly To Surrender To, eh?:

I have decided to follow / Utterly Surrender To Jesus?
+
Confusing Disagreements OR?:

Agreement With The Gospel?

Bonus:
The Bible: The BIG Picture

Amen.

The only way to solve these confusing doctrines is to be lead by the holy spirit and his word but one needs to know how to actually connect and resonate with the spirit to synch with him which for me it requires being still expecting his presence and waiting refusing to budge until he and I are truly in synch worship music helps with that

there are many ways according to man to be saved but only one narrow path so we are blind to that path ourselves until the spirit leads us he gives us new eyes new senses new understanding

For what it's worth, my explanation would be that Jesus was summarizing the whole of what God told us would make life make sense. This was written in the Commandments that God wrote with His finger, and the ones that Jesus summarized into two: Love the LORD your God with all your heart and love your neighbor as yourself. It wasn't a checklist of just NOT killing, stealing, lying about, or committing adultery with. It was a deep heart attitude of loving, loving God (which includes trusting Him) and loving your neighbor as yourself. The rich man seemed to acknowledge that Jesus was worthy of being called "good." Was he willing to listen to Jesus? Was the rich man willing to both love God and his neighbor by selling his plenty to share with the poor so that he could be free to physically/literally take Jesus' specific invitation to follow Jesus to learn better how that love should be worked out? Obviously he was not. Perhaps we can't do likewise physically/literally since Jesus isn't walking around for us to follow, but can we have that kind of attitude of trusting God above trusting in our status, our job, our savings? Can we have that kind of love to God that we love the person near us who also is made in the image of God?

I don't know who you are. I do know you love God and His Word. I am a Messianic Jew. Fully Jewish and fully believing in Yeshua, The Messiah. I recognize the relationship between the Old and New Covenants. As do you my friend. Peace be with you. Please message back. I am a strong believer who had been battling chronic leukemia and related medical issues. I am in constant pain and am mostly bed bound with few people to communicate with. I pray for comfort and only God helps. The morphine and all of the medications do little anymore. I'm often asked why faithful believers suffer. Perhaps because of a fallen world. More likely to bring us closer to Jesus so we can understand His suffering. Suffering brings endurance. Endurance brings faith. Faith brings wisdom.

I am waiting to leave this tent. Too sick to live. Ye not sick enough to die. My son is in University and I am holding on until he graduates. I don't want to disrupt his life when he is so happy. He is a smart and wise young man. He sees me suffering. He said to me, "Dad don't choose a date. I have been preparing for you dying for many years. You have been my back bone and I'll miss you". He still is unsaved. I keep praying for Ben's salvation. I want to see him again. I don't know why all of this came pouring out. I apologize. Perhaps I felt the Holy Spirit and needed a good cry. Sorry if this text upset you. Thank you for listening. Steven

You write as though the Scripture is is in your heart, soul and mind. All you have written is true. If our world behaved as Jesus taught, there would be no famine or poverty. Only there is evil amongst us. It is the evil of satan and his minions who cause such horrible wars, evil, chaos and suffering in this world. It is only when Yeshua returns will his Word become real to His faithful elect. Is what I'm saying sound doctrine? I am a Jewish Believer, a Messianic Jew. Perhaps my view is a bit skewed because of my strict Jewish upbringing. Satan was never a word in our home or in Hebrew School or at synagogue. When I was saved, I knew little about satan and have been learning more recently. What role does ha satan play in this wicked greedy world? I would be blessed with a response. In Yeshua's Grace, Steven

What role does ha satan play in this wicked greedy world? I would be blessed with a response. In Yeshua's Grace, Steven

Satan's only role in this world is to keep you away from God and His word --who is Jesus ----

Satan keeps you from God by putting thoughts of doubt --unbelief and fear in your mind ----Satan attacks the Mind and your emotions ----Satan has God's permission to harass our Mind to keep us from accepting God and knowing the Spiritual truth of His word ------

The Spiritual warfare takes place in the Mind ---this spiritual war is all about gaining your Soul ----God wants your soul in His court and Satan wants your soul in his court ---so your in a war everyday as to who you will listen to in your thought life -----

You WIN OR LOOSE The War in Your mind ----

I have learned this about the enemy. I have a question that is even more difficult to answer. I have been suffering for 15 years with a rare form of leukemia. Along with the leukemia have come other issues as the destruction of my spine. I am in horrible pain with no relief. This has been over 15 years and has become so bad that morphine, fentanyl and Dilaudid don't really touch the pain. The suffering is indescribable. I know all of the Scriptures about suffering. However, over the past years I have been prayed over and prayed for relief and a healing. I have seen so many faithful believers who are never healed. Yet I have seen others who have been healed.

People have sent me multiple videos about healings. Mostly from Sid Roth's TBN program, "It's a Miracle". Being a retired doctor, I do have scientific explanations for many of these healings. However, for some healings, if all of the information is presented and accurate, I believe are miraculous healings. Jesus healed many people. Some without asking and some with no knowledge or faith. Other healings were done for the faithful. The perfect example is the woman with the bleeding issue. She was considered unclean and held back from getting close to Jesus. Yet her faith allowed her to reach out and touch the hem of the garment of Jesus and she was instantly healed. I believe many times Jesus healed people in the Scriptures to show who he was. Who else could do such miraculous healings but G-d himself in the flesh?

Of course G-d brings me comfort when I am so distressed. Ha satan also whispers in my ear that I am going to suffer until the end. I await the end and to be out of this tent and to be in the majesty of Hashem. However, my question is this: I believe G-d chooses who he wants to heal and who He does not want to heal. While others tell me I do not have enough faith or I would be healed. So, is healing truly just a matter of faith? Or is it God's decision who will be healed and who will not? Thank you for your input. Steven

It sounds like Jesus was declaring to the young ruler, that it's impossible to be saved by keeping the commandments.

He confirms it in Matthew 19:26 "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, “With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.”

My take away message from Luke 18 is, that nobody is justified or saved by keeping the commandments.
