THE REQUIREMENTS FOR ETERNAL LIFE ACCORDING TO JESUS
(All verses are from the ASV.)

Jesus never left people unsure about eternal life. When someone asked Him how to enter the Kingdom, His answer always pointed to the same truths: trust in Him, keeping God’s commandments, doing the Father’s will, following His voice, and staying united with Him.

One of the clearest moments is when the rich young ruler came with a sincere question. The Scripture says, “And behold, one came to him and said, Teacher, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him… if thou wouldest enter into life, keep the commandments (Matthew 19:16–19). Jesus then listed the commandments to show exactly what He meant. Eternal life is connected to obeying God.

Jesus also said that calling Him Lord is not enough. Eternal life belongs to those who do the Father’s will. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven (Matthew 7:21). This makes obedience to God’s will part of the path to life.

Jesus also linked eternal life with keeping His word. “Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my word, he shall never see death (John 8:51). Keeping His word means trusting Him, obeying Him, and letting His teaching guide our daily steps.

He also taught that we must abide in Him. Abide in me, and I in you… for apart from me ye can do nothing (John 15:4–5). To abide in Him is to stay close to Him, listen to His voice, and walk in His teaching. Jesus explained how this abiding works: If ye keep my commandments, ye shall abide in my love (John 15:10). Obedience is not a burden. It is the way we remain in His love.

Jesus also spoke of following Him, because He is the only way that leads to the Father. My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life (John 10:27–28). Eternal life is promised to those who hear His voice and follow His steps.

He also spoke of the final judgment, showing that our choices matter. “They that have done good, unto the resurrection of life; and they that have done evil, unto the resurrection of judgment” (John 5:28–29). Here Jesus shows that eternal life is tied to a life shaped by obedience, faith, and goodness.

Together, these teachings show that eternal life is given to those who believe in Jesus, follow Him, keep the commandments, abide in His love, walk in the Father’s will, and live a life of doing good. His words form one simple, clear path.

Isaiah 60:1-12
Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you.
2 For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth,And deep darkness the people; But the Lord will arise over you,And His glory will be seen upon you.
3 The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

4 “Lift up your eyes all around, and see: They all gather together, they come to you;
Your sons shall come from afar,And your daughters shall be nursed at your side.
5 Then you shall see and become radiant,And your heart shall swell with joy;
Because the abundance of the sea shall be turned to you,The wealth of the Gentiles shall come to you.
6 The multitude of camels shall cover your land,The dromedaries of Midian and Ephah;
All those from Sheba shall come; They shall bring gold and incense,
And they shall proclaim the praises of the Lord.
7 All the flocks of Kedar shall be gathered together to you, The rams of Nebaioth shall minister to you;
They shall ascend with acceptance on My altar, And I will glorify the house of My glory.

8 “Who are these who fly like a cloud, And like doves to their roosts?
9 Surely the coastlands shall wait for Me; And the ships of Tarshish will come first,
To bring your sons from afar, Their silver and their gold with them,To the name of the Lord your God,
And to the Holy One of Israel, Because He has glorified you.

10 “The sons of foreigners shall build up your walls,And their kings shall minister to you;
For in My wrath I struck you, But in My favor I have had mercy on you.
11 Therefore your gates shall be open continually; They shall not be shut day or night,
That men may bring to you the wealth of the Gentiles, And their kings in procession.
12 For the nation and kingdom which will not serve you shall perish, And those nations shall be utterly ruined.

God's commandment is eternal life. Follow it by abiding in it

And I know that his commandment is unending life. Whatsoever I speak therefore, even as the Father said unto me, so I speak. John 12:50

JESUS TAUGHT ALL OF THE TEN COMMANDMENTS
Jesus did not set the commandments aside. He taught every one of them, and asked to keep them if we love him. He either quoting them or explaining their deeper meaning. the examples below are not the only ones for each commandments, could anyone find the other ones Jesus spoke about for each or
just some of them? i will add them to the list.

1 — “Thou shalt have no other gods before me.”
Jesus said the Father alone must be worshiped.
Matthew 4:10 (ASV)
“Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.”
2 — “Thou shalt not make idols.”
Jesus warned against serving anything besides God.
Matthew 6:24 (ASV)
“No man can serve two masters… Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
3 — “Thou shalt not take the name of the Lord thy God in vain.”
Jesus taught that our words to God must be true and not empty.
Matthew 5:33–34 (ASV)
“Thou shalt not forswear thyself… But I say unto you, Swear not at all.”
4 — “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.”
Jesus kept the Sabbath but taught how to keep it with mercy and truth.
Mark 2:27–28 (ASV)
“The sabbath was made for man… the Son of man is lord even of the sabbath.”
5 — “Honor thy father and thy mother.”
Jesus affirmed this command directly.
Matthew 15:4 (ASV)
“Honor thy father and thy mother.”
6 — “Thou shalt not kill.”
Jesus quoted it and showed its deeper meaning.
Matthew 5:21–22 (ASV)
“Ye have heard… Thou shalt not kill… but I say unto you, that every one who is angry with his brother shall be in danger of the judgment.”
7 — “Thou shalt not commit adultery.”
Jesus also showed the deeper meaning of this command.
Matthew 5:27–28 (ASV)
“Ye have heard… Thou shalt not commit adultery; but I say unto you, that every one that looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.”
8 — “Thou shalt not steal.”
Jesus repeated this command when speaking to the young ruler.
Matthew 19:18 (ASV)
“Thou shalt not steal.”
9 — “Thou shalt not bear false witness.”
Also repeated by Jesus.
Matthew 19:18 (ASV)
“Thou shalt not bear false witness.”
10 — “Thou shalt not covet.”
Jesus warned against desire for riches and greed.
Luke 12:15 (ASV)
“Take heed, and keep yourselves from all covetousness.”
Jesus did not abolish the Ten Commandments.

He confirmed them, explained them, and taught people how to keep them from the heart.

Jesus gives an interesting answer to this question:

John 6:24 Once the crowd realized that neither Jesus nor his disciples were there, they got into the boats and went to Capernaum in search of Jesus.

25 When they found him on the other side of the lake, they asked him, “Rabbi, when did you get here?”

26 Jesus answered, “Very truly I tell you, you are looking for me, not because you saw the signs I performed but because you ate the loaves and had your fill. 27 Do not work for food that spoils, but for food that endures to eternal life, which the Son of Man will give you. For on him God the Father has placed his seal of approval.”

28 Then they asked him, “What must we do to do the works God requires?”

29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.

No "commandments", no "law", no "statutes"; just believe. This was said to Jews, not even to Gentiles.

The problem with the arguments of the Judaizers is that they take Jesus' words about commandments out of context and ignore other words of His. Context, as usual, is the Achilles' heel for cultists and heretics.

The problem with the arguments of the Judaizers is that they take Jesus' words about commandments out of context and ignore other words of His. Context, as usual, is the Achilles' heel for cultists and heretics.

When Jesus told the crowd in John 6 to “believe in the One whom God has sent,” He was not teaching a shallow belief with no change of life. In the same chapter Jesus explains what real belief looks like. He says later in this same talk that anyone who comes to Him must eat His flesh and drink His blood which means to receive His life, follow Him, and stay in Him. And in many other places Jesus explains very clearly what true belief does.

Jesus said in John 14:15, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” The word “if” shows a condition. The word “keep” shows action. Jesus never separates belief from obedience. For Him, belief means trust, loyalty, and following His words.

In John 8:31 Jesus says, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.” Real belief stays with His teaching and does not walk away from it. In Matthew 7:21 Jesus warns, “Not everyone who says to Me, Lord, Lord, will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.” Here Jesus shows that faith that does not obey is empty.

The rich young ruler asked Jesus how to have eternal life. Jesus answered in Matthew 19:17, “If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.” Jesus then listed several of the Ten Commandments. This shows that for Jesus, belief is not an idea only. It is a life lived in obedience from the heart.

Some people try to use one sentence of Jesus to cancel all His other words, but Scripture never works that way. Jesus speaks with one voice everywhere. When He says “believe,” He means the kind of belief that follows Him, listens to Him, and obeys Him. When He says “keep My commandments,” He is describing the same thing. Faith and obedience are one life, not two separate things.

You reject Jesus words because you do not want to obey. Jesus said in John 3:19 that light has come into the world but people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. When the heart refuses the light, the words of Jesus become closed to them. But those who want truth will always come to the light, and the light will show them how to walk.

if you refuse Jesus's commandments how to you expect to enter heaven? Jesus was perfectly clear about it when he said in Matthew 19:17, “If you want to enter into life, keep the commandments.”

The problem with the arguments of the Judaizers is that they take Jesus' words about commandments out of context and ignore other words of His. Context, as usual, is the Achilles' heel for cultists and heretics.
Their EISEGESIS culminates in salvation by grace plus law, faith plus works. (Galatians 1:6-9) One former member of Christian Chat who was a Seventh Day Adventist confirmed this by his previous statement below:

The counterfeit Gospel is out there. What is the other Gospel? It is a Gospel that tries to separate God's Law (10 commandments) from the Cross. It is a Gospel that tries to separate God's 10 commandments from the plan of salvation. God’s Law has always been part of the true Gospel of Christ. The counterfeit Gospel does not have it. God's forever Law (the 10 commandments) is the foundation of both the Old and the New Covenant and the very foundation and basis of the true Gospel of Christ.

The gospel is the "good news" of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) and is the power of God unto salvation to everyone that BELIEVES.. (Romans 1:16) To "believe" the gospel is to trust in the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. ✝️

The gospel is a message of grace that is to be received through faith. The gospel is not a set of rituals to perform, a code of laws to be obeyed or a check list of good works to accomplish as a prerequisite for salvation.

The gospel is hid to those who DO NOT BELIEVE. (2 Corinthians 4:3,4)

PART THREE
JESUS SHOWED US HOW TO LIVE THE COMMANDMENTS THROUGH HIS OWN ACTIONS

Jesus did not only speak the Ten Commandments. He lived them every day and showed us the heart behind each one, so we could see how to walk in God’s ways with love, mercy, and truth. When He spoke of putting God first, He taught us to shape our lives around the Father’s will. This is why He said, “But seek ye first his kingdom, and his righteousness”(Matthew 6:33 ASV). By these words He showed the spirit of the first commandment, that God must stand above every worry and every desire.

He also showed the meaning of the second commandment when He entered the temple and drove out the merchants who had turned God’s house into a marketplace. The Scripture says, “And Jesus entered into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the money-changers” (Matthew 21:12 ). In doing this, He showed that nothing made by human hands, no wealth and no business, should ever take the place of worship given to God.

Jesus honored the third commandment by teaching people to speak to God with clean and honest hearts. He told them not to use empty or careless prayers. His words were, “And in praying use not vain repetitions, as the Gentiles do”(Matthew 6:7) . With this He reminded us that God’s name is holy and our words to Him must come from truth.

When people accused Him of breaking the Sabbath, Jesus showed the true purpose of that command. He healed the sick, helped the hurting, and explained that mercy is part of keeping the day holy. He said, “It is lawful to do good on the sabbath day” (Matthew 12:12). By this He taught that the Sabbath is not a burden, but a day to reflect God’s kindness.

Jesus also honored His earthly mother, showing the beauty of the fifth commandment. Even while suffering on the cross, He cared for her. The Scripture says, “When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold, thy son… Then saith he to the disciple, Behold, thy mother” (John 19:26–27). In this moment of great pain, He still showed love and respect, teaching us that honoring our parents reflects the heart of God.

For the sixth commandment, Jesus showed that the way of life is peace, not violence. When Peter tried to defend Him with a sword, Jesus stopped him immediately. He said, “Put up again thy sword into its place; for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword” (Matthew 26:52). By this He taught that taking life is not God’s way and that anger and violence lead only to harm.

Jesus also showed the truth of the seventh commandment when the woman caught in adultery was brought before Him. He protected her from those who wished to stone her and then spoke words that pointed her toward a new life. He said, “Neither do I condemn thee: go thy way; from henceforth sin no more” (John 8:11). Here He showed mercy, yet at the same time upheld God’s command for purity and faithfulness.

For the eighth commandment, He taught the importance of honesty, even in the smallest matters. He said, “He that is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much” (Luke 16:10). Jesus showed that stealing begins with unfaithfulness in the heart, but honesty grows from loyalty to God.

Jesus also taught the ninth commandment by calling His followers to simple, truthful speech. He said, “But let your speech be, Yea, yea; Nay, nay” (Matthew 5:37). With these words He showed that false witness does not begin in a courtroom but in the heart that chooses deception instead of truth.

Last, Jesus warned against the trap of coveting, the desire for earthly treasures that pull the heart away from God. He said, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon the earth, where moth and rust consume… but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven… for where thy treasure is, there will thy heart be also” (Matthew 6:19–21). Here He explained the tenth commandment, showing that the real treasure of life is found in God, not in things.

And after all these teachings and examples, Jesus gathered everything into one final and clear picture, telling us that the only safe foundation is to hear His words and do them. He said, “Every one that heareth these words of mine, and doeth them, shall be likened unto a wise man, who built his house upon the rock” (Matthew 7:24 ). By this He showed that true obedience is not heavy, but the way to a strong and secure life with God.

so Jesus words are a counterfeit gospel? you condemn yourself saying so. The topic of this post is not Jesus death and resurrection. it about the ten commandments and how to enter life. none of this would be attainable if Jesus did not die on the cross, everyone here knows this well AND AGREE but it is not the only Jesus came to accomplish, I speak here of something important that many have forgotten or worse, refuse. I agree, the gospel is Hid to those who do not believe what Jesus said.

Straw man argument. I never said that Jesus' words are a counterfeit gospel. Jesus' words are clear. (John 3:15,16,18; 5:24; 6:29, 40,47; 11:25,26) Believing the gospel is not about believing what Jesus said based on your EISEGESIS. It's about believing in/trusting in the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ as the ALL-sufficient means of our salvation. (1 Corinthians 15:1-4) You are trusting in your best efforts to obey the 10 commandments (works righteousness) as the means of your salvation.

Besides Jesus Christ, who has perfectly obeyed all 10 commandments? You?

I already thoroughly covered the rich young ruler with you in post #109 from the link below and elsewhere.

Just like Roman Catholics, you try to "shoehorn" obedience/works "into" believes and the end result is salvation by works/works righteousness.

Frankly, it amazes me that so many people disregard Acts 15 and Galatians in its entirety.

PART FOUR
THE IMPORTANCE OF DOING GOD’S WILL AND NOT OUR OWN

From the beginning of His ministry until the cross, Jesus taught that the will of the Father stands above every human desire, fear, or plan. He showed this truth not only in His words but in the choices He made in the hardest moments of His life. One of the clearest and most moving examples is found in the garden of Gethsemane. Jesus knew the suffering that waited for Him. His heart was heavy, yet He prayed to the Father with complete trust and surrender. The Scriptures say, “And he went forward a little, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, My Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass away from me: nevertheless, not as I will, but as thou wilt (Matthew 26:39). Even in agony, Jesus showed that the Father’s will is greater than our own wishes.

He prayed again with the same spirit of obedience. “My Father, if this cannot pass away, except I drink it, thy will be done” (Matthew 26:42). With these words, He taught all of us that the way of true life is not found in forcing our own path but in trusting God’s plan. Jesus lived every moment by this truth, never seeking His own glory. He said openly, “I seek not mine own will, but the will of him that sent me” (John 5:30). His mission was not shaped by human comfort or human opinion, but by the purpose set before Him by the Father.

Jesus also told the crowds that doing the will of God is the very path to entering the Kingdom. He said, “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father who is in heaven” (Matthew 7:21). With these words He made the way to life very clear. It is not loud religion or empty praise that brings us to the Father. It is walking in obedience to His will.

He also explained the same truth when a woman in the crowd blessed His earthly family. Jesus answered by pointing to a higher relationship, one based on obedience. The Scripture says, “But he said, Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it” (Luke 11:28). In this gentle correction He showed that the true children of God are those who listen to His words and obey them.

Another time, when His relatives came looking for Him, Jesus used the moment to teach His followers about the importance of doing the Father’s will. He said, “Whosoever shall do the will of my Father who is in heaven, he is my brother, and sister, and mother” (Matthew 12:50 ). With these simple words He lifted obedience above bloodline, above tradition, and above every earthly tie.

Jesus’ whole life pointed in one direction: the Father’s will. He showed us that God’s will is always good, always loving, and always leads to life. Even when the path is hard, even when it costs us something, it is the only way that brings peace to the heart and light to the soul. And when we walk in it, we walk in the footsteps of Jesus Himself.

Frankly, it amazes me that so many people disregard Acts 15 and Galatians in its entirety.

People who say the Ten Commandments are abolished misunderstand both Jesus and the apostles. Jesus Himself said that anyone who breaks even the least of the commandments and teaches others to do so will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but the one who keeps them and teaches them will be called great (Matthew 5:19). He also told the rich young ruler that eternal life is found through keeping the commandments, naming several of them directly (Matthew 19:17–19). In Acts 15, the apostles were not removing the Ten Commandments. you will not find any verses that say this. They, the jerusalem council were refusing to place on Gentiles the added rituals from Moses, like circumcision. that the Jews insisted on. But the commandments that define sin and love were never taken away. Even James, the leader of that meeting, affirmed that we must not turn back to sin after receiving God’s grace. So Acts 15 supports Jesus, not the idea that His commandments are gone. Galatians is written against trusting rituals for salvation, not against the Ten Commandments that Jesus taught, lived, and told us to follow.

Jesus never left people unsure about eternal life. When someone asked Him how to enter the Kingdom, His answer always pointed to the same truths: trust in Him, keeping God’s commandments, doing the Father’s will, following His voice, and staying united with Him.

Once again, vassal, you completely misrepresent God’s gospel of grace and salvation.
You attempt to make what Jesus was teaching to His disciples to edify their spiritual knowledge, into instead being requirements to satisfy to become saved - there is a vast difference between the two - between the actual tenets of becoming saved, as opposed to the teaching of spiritual doctrine. Doctrine is taught to, and learned by, those who have the Holy Spirit, or those who will become saved and be indwelt with the Holy Spirit.
You demand works for salvation, yet you do not provide the criteria to satisfy them, but which criteria are nothing short of perfection from birth to death, and falling short of perfection, then failure – they are criteria that no man can satisfy, which on its face, demonstrate the complete error and failure of your beliefs. By conflating edification with justification, you turn salvation into man's work instead of it being entirely by God's grace through Jesus Christ, Savior. So, you clearly demonstrate that you are totally devoid of the knowledge of Jesus Christ as Savoir.
