“The lamp of the body is the eye. If therefore your eye is good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eye is bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you is darkness, how great is that darkness!”
-Matthew 6:22-23

this verse reminds me of another verse…

“Keep your heart with all diligence,
For out of it spring the issues of life.”
-Proverbs 4:23

lastly, this verse sums up those two verses in a profound way!

“… and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”
-Philippians 4:7

i have personally found myself far less anxious and/or depressed by simply choosing to not scroll through, or even look at, social media, especially Instagram and X. i had a major panic attack earlier today, and i know it was from “doomscrolling” these past few days (i’ve been sick in bed). i recommend anyone who is addicted to social media to just fast from it and/or just not look at it. in my opinion, YouTube is the “healthiest” place to be online (if you’re selective with what you watch). Instagram has so many ads and is a digital “highlight reel,” and X is filled with so much negative news and media. to touch on the verses above, Jesus is telling us to guard our eyes and hearts because our eyes and hearts are what affect our soul! what we see and consume affects our minds and outlooks on everything. what does it even profit my soul and spirit to scroll through Instagram Reels and X? absolutely nothing. i do post the occasional photo or video on Instagram, but it’s with good intention to share it with others. the majority of social media is ungodly and so depressing, especially X. i confess that i’ve accidentally seen super explicit things on X… i don’t even know why X allows that kind of content to be posted. it’s plainly appalling. just be careful, and be diligent and prudent. the video below is really inspiring and informational. let me know what you all think about this topic if you’d like!

Internet and social media addiction can quietly consume time, attention, and spiritual focus, drawing the heart away from what truly matters, and the Bible offers timeless wisdom that speaks directly to this modern struggle: “All things are lawful for me, but I will not be dominated by anything” (1 Corinthians 6:12) reminds us that even permissible tools can become harmful when they control us, while “Be careful how you live—not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity” (Ephesians 5:15–16) challenges believers to steward their time intentionally rather than losing it to endless scrolling.

If this web site counts as social media, then yes because there is an opportunity to help and encourage others.

If something like Facebook is meant, then no. The idea of maintaining a Potemkin like edifice of my life so that I can feed vampire like off the reactions of others I anticipate would be unsatisfying,

I recently learned this word, and from the moment I learned it, I loved it. It is so accurate as to precisely describe what we "doomscrollers" sometimes do. Doomscrolling.
