Look at the following chart. You will see estimated MET values and calorie burn from two activities. Walking versus using a spinning wheel to produce yarn.

My question about it, why can't I do 4 or more hours of making yarn per day, instead of doing 6k-10k steps of walking and get a better calorie burn. I searched if doing the spinning wheel would count as walking, but my results said no it's not the same as walking, and it's not considered good enough to count. That it's just a waste of time for fat. But you look at see the MET values, is this information I get false?

Using the spinning also requires some walking when making yarn. For producing the yarn you do not sit the entire 4 hours.

You see I reduce 1.0 MET from the MET value, this is to count only the extra calories past the resting rate.

I just performed 6k steps today and, I think it would be more efficient if I produced yarn for 4 hours. The steps took 1.5 hours. I at least could take the yarn and produce things like wash cloths.

Walking
(3.0 -1) MET * 181kg * 3.5 / 200= 6.33
1min 6.33 calories
30min 189.9 cal.
60min 379.8 cal.
90min 569.7 cal. 6k steps.
180min = 1139.4 calories. Compared to 4 hours of making yarn.

Spinning wheel making wool yarn 1.8 - 3.0
(2.5-1) MET * 181kg * 3.5 / 200 = 4.75
30min 142.5 calories
60min 285 calories
2hour 570 calories
4hour 1140 calories
5hour 1425 calories.
6hour 1710 calories
8hour 2280 calories

I do biking myself. I don't have any MET numbers, but it took five months of biking to w*rk and back to cook off my excess.

No idea what spinning yarn would burn. But I bet I could hook up my bike to it and pedal.

Some spinning wheels have been created from bicycles, they pedal the wheel while drafting the yarn.
Bicycle conversions have been done for 100 years or more.

listen to your body talk to you. most people never really tap into this resource as best as they can. be totally relaxed as this is a problem too. be natural!!! no 2nd guessing. biking is the world's best exercise because you are using all your muscles & it's less "joint" strain & pressure.

@jacko Which ever I do, Must stick with it and actually do it all the way. A serious problem I have always had with any excercise, is I might do it for 1 week, and then forget anything about it. Then, when I get on the scale I am punished. "This thing does not work." Real problem is I only did a tiny bit of it, because I forgot to do it.

I will be working on the spinning wheel + the RF device. I will see if anything happens in about 1 month. Unless I forget again.

Let me tell you a problem I have had with fat and working. I have worked jobs working shovling dirt for 8 hours per day. I did it for an entire year, and got no change in the fat. I worked at dollar general, where I had to walk between the register and the shelves for 4 hours per day. I mean it, walked the entire 4 hour shift. GAINED, got BIGGGER.

I think the government should make a FAT tax. If any packaging contains more than one serving in it, then there should be a TAX for it. And if the calories for that packaging exceeds a certain set number, then there is a TAX for the over calories.

Right now the food industry puts more than one serving into a box. Do the people only eat the one serving? NO, they eat the whole thing. Are the even looking at the calories, they might, but they eat it anyways. One slice of cake contains 1,200 calories. Same for your cookies, it's about 400 calories per cookie. They don't just put a small piece in the box, they shove an entire thing in it. They stick on the box, 150 calories, "PER SERVING". There is about 4-6 servings per box.

It the same for your pizza and hot dogs too.

The fast food... "1,200 calories per MEAL."

In case you don't know, a man should not be having more than 2000 calories per day. Dividing the 2000 by 3 meals equals 666.666 calories. For me, at my body, it's about 513 calories per meal.

"it's because they are sedatory, you don't do anything during the day." "What do you do during the day? anything?". "Been eating alot of Juuuunk?" "It's because people eat and eat and eat, shoving food constantly down their throat."

I don't believe it when they tell me that diet and exercise is the problem. It never works.

One realy problem we have in the United States, is they set out in front of you all these good delicous foods, and they advertise it to you. Telling you how OoooHHH, how goooooood it is. At the same time there telling you, "Don't eat that, it's bad for you."

It's let setting a can of dog food out for the dog, and telling him to not eat it. Blowing the smell of the food up he's nose. "Don't eat it, you have had too much already."

Look in the grocery store next time, take note of how much of the floor is actually food. You see about 80% of the floor is taking up with junk food.

Your gas station, nothing but junk in it.

When I am talking about the junk in the grocery store, I am talking about the sugar. Bread, Flour, Pasta, cookies, donuts, cakes, candy, grain sugar. A pizza is really just a piece of bread with some sauce, cheese and meat on it.

Most of the store is SUGAR. 80% of it is SUGAR. there is a small section with some meat, and another small section with produce.

I wanted to know what people ate before they consumed wheat. Wheat started because it was a famine food. People ate it because they where starving to death. They started growing it and using it.

According to google AI. "Before the cultivation of wheat, people lived primarily on a diet of hunting, gathering, and fishing. This meant consuming a variety of wild plants, animals, and seafood. Key components included meat, fish, nuts, seeds, and berries. "

I am going to go cook a piece of chicken, using some Yum Yum sauce. But no bread. At first you will have hunger pains when you stop the sugar, but after you have gone thru the withdrawal from it you feel better.

Here look at this...

"“Weight loss isn't solely about gym workouts. It's about finding the right balance between nutrition and exercise.” While some studies suggest slightly different ratios –– 80% nutrition and 20% exercise –– the research has found that diet often plays a far more significant role in achieving weight loss than exercise.Dec 30, 2024"

Some sources say it only 5% exercise, while others say 30% is exercise. They say 10% is food digestion.

And what the food industry does is use all the temptations they can give you. They study how to tempt people, making them buy just about anything they want to sell them. One of the biggest sales tactics is to talk sexy. Describe things like it's sex. They do this even when selling toys to children. It's in the tone of voice and choice of words. Words like 'Juicy, endulge, satisfying, sooo goooood, mmMmmMMmmm."

So to make things even worse. I read a government research paper and it said, "The only thing we can find that has ever worked, and maintained healthy weight, is counting calories." It said not exercise or what they ate, only counting the number consumed. Drugs didn't matter. Herbs didn't matter. Not caffeine.

Why the BMR formulas for estimating daily expense is false. Let me show you how many calories a 100 year old man needs, to maintain he's body at 150 pounds.

Take the BMR formula, then multiply by the exercise number, which will be 1.375 for no activity.
Imperial System BMR Formula
Women: BMR = 655 + ( 4.35 x weight in pounds ) + ( 4.7 x height in inches ) – ( 4.7 x age in years )
Men: BMR = 66 + ( 6.23 x weight in pounds ) + ( 12.7 x height in inches ) – ( 6.8 x age in year )

66+(6.23*150)+(12.7*68)-6.8*100)=399.3 BMR.
Then, 399.3 * 1.375 activity level = 549.0375 calories per day, is all a 100 year old man can eat without getting fat.
What if that man lived to be 200? Some people live that long, and longer. I really don't believe they only eat about one third of a meal per day.

The formula given is considered one of the most accurate formulas in the world.

What, what's wrong with my math?

So I did find out what was wrong with my math. However, I find the formula flawed anyways. Because it can't tell you the calories needs of someone who is old.

"Metabolism generally slows down with age, but the extent and timing can vary. Some research suggests that metabolism decreases by about 1-2% per decade after age 20."

My last free consultation (meaning no charge to him or donation for setting up the program) was on a similar subject.
He was doing rebounding on a mini trampoline many months at the encouragement of a 7th Day Adventist elder. I told him that he's ready to make more progress. He decided to bounce more. There's no problem with bouncing to his heart's content. It's good for the lymphatic circulation.
He needs to start hiking up his beautiful hill that's so scenic!
We cut trees on top of that and can see 3 states in the distance WV, PA and MD. He should take his wife for walks and push himself to get past the mental block of discomfort.

The average person not recovering from a recent injury needs to take their routine to the next level.
That means, adding more resistance or increasing their threshold.

Most people who count steps are using a horizontal measurement on a horizontal plane.
They increase their goal of steps and that's where it ends. Nothing wrong with that, especially when walking is a chore. I'm not your personal Health Coach so I'm only able to speak in generalities.

With no existing disability such as heart disease, injury, recent surgery, etc, the way to improve is multifaceted. Perhaps we can look at the steps taken and increase the resistance/ difficulty by walking uphills and down hills. Steps are good for those with stability and no balance issues. When they get too easy, a person can skip a step and take every other one slowly.

When walking uphill, bend the knees and hips, taking lower longer strides.
This might make you sore the next day. As long as it's the muscles and not the joints or tendons, there should be muscular repair And strength.

On of the major factors of longevity is leg strength. Develope an enjoyable routine of leg strengthening exercise now and you are less likely to end up immoble or dependant upon assistance in the long run.
Dr Axe mentioned his Dad who goes to the gym and goes water skiing 3xweek.

I like the interest you are showing in setting out to achieve your goal.
If your purpose is to burn calories to lose weight, then there are other options too.

It really takes a lot of time to burn enough calories to do it with walking alone. If you like both activities, I'd do both and mix it up with weight resistance or uphill walks, etc.
I like to backpack so that's what I take on my walks. There's all kinds of useful items that you can take too. Water itself is heavy.

Here's more inspiration < from Alex Jones and his personal trainer.
He lost 85# fat and gained lean muscle mass. He's in his 50s and feels stronger, better and more energy than he did as a weight lifter at 20!
I love it when we make progress.

I was listening to this before checking here to see your new thread, so this is for you too.

Uh... In the Bible the Israelites used wheat. Like, a LOT. It's mentioned just all over the Bible. Gideon was threshing wheat, they made bread without leaven when they were getting ready to bail out of Egypt, they even had laws for farming that you shouldn't plow too close to the edge of a stream, they had laws for leaving some for poor people to glean...

especially the u.s., don't listen to the fda or government doctors. everyone knows the story by now. they want you eating contaminated food, food loaded with additives, chemicals, fillers, fertilizers & preservatives. each individual is the best source to teach us what to erat & how much. everyone be careful that you are not "too careful" in trusting unworthy sources. be not a victim of "paralysis by analysis"! i believe you are your own best teacher when the subject is food & fitness.

So take a look at my own way of calculating the daily calorie needs plus BMR, and also what I think is better way of calculating the METs.

Metric System BMR Formula
Women: BMR = 655 + ( 9.6 x weight in kilos ) + ( 1.8 x height in cm ) – ( 4.7 x age in years)
Men: BMR = 66 + ( 13.7 x weight in kilos ) + ( 5 x height in cm ) – ( 6.8 x age in years )

Use 20 as age regardless of age. Then, for every 10 years over 20, reduce by 2%. Remember it said from 1% to 2% slow down. And right now I think the rate of the slow down, slows down.

Using that formula there, I came up with 3108.1776 BMR.
Then if at resting the whole 24 hours, then I use this formula,
BMR * 1.0/24 * 24, which equals the BMR.
3108 is my BMR, and also the Basic calorie expense at 1.0 MET per 24 hours.

Looking back at the spinning wheel, I then calculate it this way.

Spinning wheel making wool yarn 1.8 - 3.0
OLD, (2.5-1) MET * 181kg * 3.5 / 200 = 4.75
3108 BMR * ((2.5 the met -1 resting rate) MET / (24 hours * 60 minutes)) = 3.2375 per minute calories expense running the spinning wheel.
By using formula, BMR * MET/24 * Hours.
30min 97.125 calories
60min 194.25 calories
2hour 388.5 calories
4hour 777 calories
5hour 971.25 calories.
6hour 1165.5 calories
8hour 1554 calories

Because of the lower numbers and how they look to me, I think this one is more accurate. Looks more realistic to me. Because yes I would be able to eat full 6 meals a day if I worked 8 hours a day on the spinning wheel, and be fit using the old formula.

Using the spinning wheel, I have just one problem. Motivation. Yes I know I am using some calories here, but, lack of motivation. I want to do something producing things that I can make money with. Because when it comes down to it, that is my motivation. This is because I am suffering from lack of money right now.
