Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.” – 2 Cor 4:16-17

The grit of a person is often measured by the many different moments they choose to never give up. They understand that despite reality and the odds, the mission results far outweigh the momentary troubles.

The ancient people once chased personal glory as a means to cement themselves in state of a historical eternal glory. A glory that would far succeed them even in death. But like all things, with time, the achievements of men become forgotten, decayed, looted, conquered, or destroyed.

The only true eternal glory is not earned but given. There is no amount of honor or earthly glory that could compare with the eternal glory defined by God and God alone.

This eternal glory is only achievable by the grace of God who freely gives and all we must do is believe and accept it.

Therefore, let us look forward beyond the hills ahead, beyond the tree line, beyond the mountains, and towards the horizon where all temporary troubles fade.

Accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior who will renew you day by day and set you towards an eternal glory that will never fade.

2 Corinthians 4 verses 16-18 ~ We do not lose heart. Though our outer self is wasting away, yet our inner self is being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary affliction is producing for us an eternal glory that is far beyond comparison. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

It is an interestng contemplation, in one respect, here we have one of the most gritiest things said by the Apostle (1Cor 15:31) protesting overwought rejoicing in the flesh (V34), when we, after being informed of the Lord that we ''will suffer tribulation'' indeed, we do take comfort to be seated with Christ ''in heavenly places''.

to the point, "I am dead" never the less 'I" live (Gal 2:20)
As we each continue to grow up into maturity and not claiming it boastfully

Paul definitely provides a great example of true grit. But I also meditate on what it must have felt when Jesus was praying in the garden. To go against the natural desire to survive is one of true grit. I'm also reminded of those like the four Chaplains who were George L. Fox, Alexander D. Goode, John P. Washington, and Clark V. Poling, all perished when the SS Dorchester sank after being torpedoed during World War II on February 3, 1943. They are remembered for their heroic act of giving up their life jackets to save others, demonstrating extraordinary courage and selflessness.

I agree. It is all too easy to become distracted by the world. To be choked out by worry. To be emotionally paralyzed by grief. To suffer an Elijah under the broom tree moment. Thank God, we have a God who comforts us when we are weak.

Yes, and let us not forget the numerous Christian martyrs from Nero until Constantine,
who contributed to the survival and growth of the body of Christ before it morphed into Roman Catholicism.

Then all the martyrs during the time of the Inquisition by the Roman Catholic church.

Yes I was thinking about mentioning the persecutions of the Anabaptists by Calvin, Luther, and Zwingli. The Anabaptists challenged those churches' belief in infant baptism and were severely persecuted by the state churches.
