I’m relatively new to faith, having been on a lifelong circular journey, only to come home again. I went to church for the first time recently and since then have been filled with a heightened sense of anxiety. It’s a palpable feeling and it’s making me snappy and easily irritated. I’m containing it as best I can but my body and mind are in chaos. Is this normal? I have prayed for clarity and calm. I’m reading lots and looking at myself and the things I do and have done which I know I have to change. It’s just this feeling of anxiety which I didn’t expect. It’s very troubling and I’m not sure what’s going on. Any help or advice? Thank you.

Looking at yourself will surely induce anxiety. Meeting with the brethren should give you peace, not anxiety. How about casting all your care on Jesus, who cares for you? His name means "Deliverer" (OK, in Christianspeak, saviour). Ask God to show you the reason for anxiety. Keep focusing on Jesus and God's promises to you. Of all people, believers should be at peace.

Hi . There could b all sorts going on so don't b too hard on yourself . R u generally nervous meeting new people ? Nervous about giving a good impression ? I get like that because I'm the kind of person who always says the wrong thing 😞 . Worried that everyone there is a much better Christian than u r ? Worried u don't know your Bible well enough and what will u say if someone asks u a question that's Bible based ? The list is endless ! I know , I've been where u r . This is gonna sound harsh but , remember why u r there , to honour God and receive instruction , not to make friends . It's great if u can find a few friends in your congregation but , let that happen organically , it may be a few months before u find someone there who is a potential friend . Most important is to keep reading the Bible and praying to God every day . Just b yourself when u go to church . U don't have to live up to their expectations and they shouldn't have to live up to yours . At the end of the day we r all imperfect humans doing our best to b good Christians . If I could go back and say anything to myself when I first went to church I would say to me 30 years ago ' keep your mouth shut and your ears open as much as possible without being impolite ' . U will b fine eventually , it's like the first day in a new school or in a new job but , u will make friends faster in school or in your job because u spend a lot of time in those places , u r only in church once or twice a week . If anyone there invites u to spend time with them socially say ' yes '. I made the mistake of saying ' no ' to the first couple of invites that I got and because of that people stopped inviting me . I was painfully shy and insecure , not so much now but I don't go to church anymore , wonder if those things r connected 😲 .

Something that I seen hurt christians in the past. Is they will have a feeling in their heart area, saying that it's the holy spirit they feel. Have you heard about chakra's. If you focus your mind on certain parts of your body, you will feel something there. Yes the holy spirit is there, yes you can feel him too. But, he's not going to make you feel strange things. When he is there, you should be feeling normal. You can also hear the holy spirit, he sometimes will even speak out loud.

Your spirit man, the holy spirit, will speak for you, on your behalf. He will rebuke the devil for you. You don't have to say anything. He has done this for me. When I was sleeping, the holy spirit rebuked him, out loud too.
