100% true story

my dad died when i was 17. when we ( my mom, grandma, and her sister in law) got home from the visitation at the funeral home , about 9 30 at night, the little dog my parents had did not meet us at the door, as he always, always did.

when we got into the house, he came out of the living room. when i walked into the dark room, and went to turn the light, i looked over and say a shadow on the couch. when i turned the light on, there was nothing there. except the smell of my dad's favorite cologne.

so i would say yes.

I do not believe those who have passed away have any contact with this world. What would be the point? They can do nothing. In some cases, they would se much heartache and tragedy. Hardly a cause for rejoicing. As far as I know, there is no basis for believing they can see what is going on here. The "witness" is to God's faithfulness to the people on earth prior to leaving here, not during someone else's experience.
Randy Alcorn has some interesting fictional books called Deadline and Dominion. In each, a believer dies and we see his or her perspective from Heaven. At one point an angel says something like, "Many on Earth wonder if they should pray for the dead when, instead, they should wonder if the dead pray for them."
So if they CAN see us., the point may be that those Saints that have gone before us pray for us. Kinda makes sense. Why would we stop praying..talking to God...just cause we're in Heaven?
He also touches on the sorrow those in Heaven still experience...that the "no more tears" is for the time when God establishes the new heavens and Earth.
Anyway, interesting reads. Makes one think. Personally, is a good reminder for me that Jesus IS building something new for us. It's easy for me to forget that and get tired in this world. But still needs to be taken with a grain of salt because the author (as he admits) doesn't REALLY know what Heaven will be like.

I was having a wonderful European tour, that is traveling by myself to several countries .The trip was wonderful, and I was delighted at all the new knowledge of other peoples
When I arrived to Amsterdam something strange occurred. I was preparing to go to London, truuly enthralled by all of this new wonder when, suddenly, utter pain and sorrow struck me. It was so strong, I fell onto my bed. Laying there confused as to what was going on, I thought, I should straighten up and fly right, for this could well be my only visit to these countries.
Returning to Schipool Airport the following day, yes, the following day. My name was being paged to come to the information desk.
I did, and I was given a number to call, my uncle in Montreal. My father had passed away the day previous.
When I arrived to O'Hare Airport, Chicago, his funeral had already taken place in California.
That sorrow attack occurred the moment my father died, but I was not given to know that at that moment.
On the flight to California, I was exhausted, and actually falling asleep on the plane, I dreamed my father came up out of his grave to take me with him.
The sorrow attack, I believe , was from our true Father, and that weird dream meant nothing at all, or was from the enemy.
We all sleep until the resurrection, when we are to be taken up by angels to meet our Savior in the cloud. Perhaps some of the very special people of th Bible are alrleady with our Father, but the vast majority of us will either be brought up out of the dust, or intantly transformed and brought up out of the flesh.

Randy Alcorn has a lot of insight specializing on the topic of Heaven.
He has provided some new perspectives I had not considered until reading one of his books.

I find myself considering the eternal future beyond death much more. I'm certain of the destiny, but wish to glorify the Lord more than laying up treasures here for this short time.
There are many promises and incentives for that time to come.
Looking back, the temporary things of this life will not mean nearly as much.

i heard a pastor say this: "when in heaven, earthly matters no longer pertain". "you can not look back down to earth & see what's going on".

Not trying to be dismissive or argumentative but what did he base that opinion on? Did he give scripture to back it up?

See, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

This is God's perspective. Why should we be remembering those things which God will not?

And the One seated on the throne said, “Behold, I make all things new.”

If anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away. Behold, the new has come!

Do not call to mind the former things; pay no attention to the things of old.

In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish,
but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on.

Death is likened to sleep many times in the Bible, yet still people will claim it is a metaphor for watchful wakeful awareness.

And that strikes me as very strange that anyone should say such a thing. Sleep is the opposite of awake.

Psalm 102:25-26, Isaiah 65:17, Revelation 21:5a, Isaiah 43:18 ~ In the beginning You laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them, and they will be passed on. For I will create new heavens and a new earth. Thank you for the inspiration! I hope you and yours are well .:)

This also brings me to an awkward question I am sure many have probably asked a few times in their lives.
That question is; "Ya know that one guy in the family that didn't truly live for God but you wondered about him? You know, the one who wasn't sober at funerals and escaped hard conversations or even lived a rather "checkered life". When he dies and the officiating minister states "He is now in the loving arms of Jesus.", Well, I have got to ask, is that statement merely for the comfort of those who hear it and thus a lie or is it true? I had to ask because coming from a 100% military VETERAN family where we had soldiers, sailors, and airmen in our family some of which were SPEC OPS folks, what are we to think when a minister says that KNOWING the kind of lives they all lived and some times it wasn't nice either.
It would depend on whether these people believed on Jesus, right? We are saved by Jesus' righteousness, not our own - provided our faith is in Him for our salvation.
