I have never felt truly secure with my salvation. I set a high standard for myself, and have a tightrope salvation. Instead of being happy I am saved, I get terrified, being afraid that if I sin that I am going to hell, as if salvation is “lost” on a day to day basis, then it comes down to how good I am on that particular day. If I sinned, then I’m not damned. If I didn’t, then I’m not. I get terrified and feel God is extremely angry at me when I sin. This a miserable way of life. Any advice help will be appreciated. It’s as if I’m walking on eggshells all the time.
I struggle a lot with never feeling good enough my salvation is not really an issue more of my own standards that I think I should be so I can relate to where you are coming from. But your salvation is not based on you it is based on Christ, once you give your heart to him from then on you are his and so your sin or failings will not ever make you lose him and I know you don't live in sin or else you would not be so afraid

But trust me your salvation is in his hands and he loves and adores you and I am not just saying that to be nice it is a fact

The truth of the matter is that there is no day you have not sinned. You may be more cognizant of your sins some days than others, but you have sinned every day nonetheless. One of the differences between those who are saved and those who are not is in response to sin. Those who are not saved will excuse their sins and often call sin something other than sin. One of the marks of the genuine Christian is his constant wrestling with and confession of sin. That sin causes you so much turmoil when before it did not is actually a good indication of your genuine faith.
Further, because God is at work willing and doing of His good pleasure, He will, of necessity, be making more and more of your sinful practices known to you. So don't be surprised at this. Anyone who draws closer to the Light will inevitably see more in the Light than in darkness. This is a gift of God to you, not to discourage you, but to make you holy as He is holy.
I would be much more concerned were it not so.

We're born of the Spirit by repenting of our sins when called, but the habbit of sin isn't just removed. We, as babes-in-Christ, go through a process of cleansing and transformation. This can be seen in Eph 5: 26: That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, And also, when praying to the Father, Jesus said in Jn 17: 17: Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth. These things occur as a process of spiritual growth! The promise of the New Covenant, as seen in Heb 8: 10: For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith the Lord; I will put my laws into their mind, and write them in their hearts: and I will be to them a God, and they shall be to me a people: this enables the body-of-Christ to be obedient to the requirement of the New Covenant; where the Old Testament believers were unable to keep the requirement of obedience found in the Old Covenant, which can be seen in Gal 3: 10-12: For as many as are of the works of the law are under the curse: for it is written, Cursed is every one that continueth not in all things which are written in the book of the law to do them. But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. And the law is not of faith: but, The man that doeth them shall live in them.
This process of spiritual growth is accomplished by feeding upon spiritual food; for Jesus said, in Jn 6: 63: It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. The fruits of the Spirit are grown in them who devote themselves to the word of God! That process can be seen in Is 28: 9-10: Whom shall he teach knowledge? and whom shall he make to understand doctrine? them that are weaned from the milk.. For precept must be upon precept, precept upon precept; line upon line, line upon line; here a little, and there a little: The result of this process is seen in Heb 9: 14: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? So, the Holy Spirit uses our devotions in scripture to minister Jesus to us as the Word of God, and we learn of him, Spirit to spirit. The Holy Spirit also uses scripture to purge or purify our consciences to see sin as the Lord sees it; and he uses it to increase our fatih which is how we are able to be pleasing unto the Lord.
As we grow in spiritual maturity, the Holy Spirit puts more and more of the Lord's commandments into our hearts and minds. Things that were once enjoyable become points of conviction and if we continue in the Lord's word, the guilt we feel increases when we stumble, until it becomes a tool of the Holy Spirit that is able to set us free from even the most ingrained sins. We'll even be able, after a time, to forgive ourselves and sleep the sleep of the innocent as per 2 Cor 5: 17: Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. So, let us. as Paul says in Phil 3: 13-14: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
1 Jn 3: 19-24:
And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight. And this is his commandment, That we should believe on the name of his Son Jesus Christ, and love one another, as he gave us commandment. And he that keepeth his commandments dwelleth in him, and he in him. And hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the Spirit which he hath given us.
Extreme guilt or conviction can be a sign of a miracle! The Holy Spirit may be making the Lord's word to come alive, engrafting it upon your heart and mind with the end result of being transformed into the image of Jesus Christ; our Lord and Savior, our King and High Priest, our Big Brother and best Friend! Spiritual maturity is a step that leads us to walking in the Spirit and denying the lusts of the flesh and thereby attaining unto an attitude of joy unspeakable and full of glory.

It doesn’t matter what “I” think. What matters is what God’s word says on the matter.
thats a revelation

“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for our's only, but also for the sins of the whole world.”

What does God's Word say on the matter?
Jn. 3:5; 16; Acts 8:37-38; Acts 22:16; Rom. 10:9-13; Acts 2:21-38; Jn. 10:27-28; Heb. 5:9; Eph. 2:8-9; Acts 19:1-5; Mt. 7:21; 2 Thess. 1:8, Rom. 8:1; Gal. 5:21-26; 2 Peter 1:3-11 etc etc.)

In a nutsell, we must believe (Jn. 3:16), confess Jesus as Lord and believe Him to be the Son of God (Rom. 10:9; Acts 8:37), believe He resurrected from the grave (Rom. 10:9-10), repent and be baptized for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), then follow/obeyJesus (Heb. 5:9; Jn. 10:27). Have fruit of the Spirit (Gal. 5:21-26), grow as a Christian (2 Peter 1:3-11, 3:18), and not let sin to reign in our mortal bodies (Rom. 6:12). Abide in His doctrine and Him (2 Jn. 9ff; Jn. 15:4ff), continue in His word (Jn. 8:31) and practice righteousness (1 Jn. 2:29 etc etc).

Acts 10:43~ All the prophets testify about Him that everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins through His name.
:)
Beautiful verse. Thanks for sharing that with me. “Believeth” can be a term that represents the whole of what one must do to be saved.

In order to believe in Him to receive the remission of sins (Acts 10:43), Cornelius and his household needed to learn about Jesus by hearing God’s word to have faith (Rom. 10:17; Acts 10:43).

As Peter began to speak, the Holy Spirit “fell” on the Gentiles (11v15).

When the Spirit “fell” (Acts 11:15) on the Gentiles (referring to them having the gift of the Holy Spirit poured out, 10:45), they began speaking in tongues and magnify God, (Acts 10:45-46)…but Peter had not finished telling Cornelius the words “whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved” (Acts 11:14)

The Gentiles spoke in tongues, and speaking in tongues were for a sign for an unbeliever (1 Cor. 14:22), but Cornelius was already a believer in God before Peter got there, as he prayed always (Acts 10:2), so who were the unbelievers?

In this context, the unbelievers would be the Jews with Peter, as they did not believe the Gentiles were eligible for salvation by the gospel of Christ. That’s why the Jews were astonished (Acts 10:45) when God bared witness by giving the Gentiles the Holy Spirit (Acts 15:8) as God was proving to the Jews there was “no distinction”, as He “put no difference between us [The Jews] and them [The Gentiles], purifying their hearts by faith” (Acts 15:9).

How were the Gentiles purified by faith? Their souls were purified by faith in “obeying the truth through the Spirit” (1 Peter 1:22). They were “born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (1 Peter 1:23).

The Gentiles were born again through the word of God when they obeyed, having received “with meekness the engrafted word, which is able to save your souls” (Jms. 1:21). They heard the engrafted word from Peter (Acts 11:14).

Not only did the miracle in Acts 10 of speaking in different tongues/language prove to the Jews that salvation by the gospel was now being extended to the Gentiles to be recipients of it, it also confirmed God’s word that He is no respecter of persons when it comes to salvation (Acts 10:35), meaning it does not matter what nation or ethnicity you are, as the same way of being saved by the gospel is for all, and it was through the cross that the Jew/Gentile would be reconciled and united in one body, by the same faith through the gospel (Acts 15:11; Acts 10:34-35, Rom. 1:16; Eph. 2:14). All of this is why Peter asked “Can any man forbid water?” (Acts 10:47)..meaning can any man forbid the Gentiles salvation by the gospel.

Cornelius was also wanting to hear all the commandments of God (Acts 10:33). Those saving words they’d be told included the commandment to be baptized (Acts 10:47-48), but Peter had not told them yet when they received the Spirit. Thus, Peter had not yet finished speaking the words and giving all the commands of God concerning how to be saved until Acts 10:48, where we read, “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.” It is at that moment where Peter finished telling them the words “whereby thou and all thy house shall be saved” by commanding them to be baptized in the name of the Lord, to have remission of sins (Acts 10:47; Acts 2:38).

Acts 10:43 says “through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

Acts 10:48 says when believing in Jesus to receive the remission of sins happened for the Gentiles “And he commanded them to be baptized in the name of the Lord.”

By submitting to Christ’s authority of obeying the commandment to be baptized (Acts 10:48) for the remission of sins (Acts 2:38), Cornelius’s belief in Christ led to a saving faith to receive the remission of sins (Acts 10:43).

In closing: The miracle of speaking in different languages proved to the Jews that salvation by the gospel was now being extended to the Gentiles.

Acts 10:47-48 cf. Acts 11:18, is where the Gentiles’ calling on the name of the Lord happened (Acts 2:21, 38).

God was confirming that the Gentiles could become children of God in obedience to the gospel so they could enter the kingdom (be saved) with 'no distinction’ purifying their hearts by faith (Acts 15:9). There was no more distinction between the two groups as they could be reconciled in one body (Eph. 2:14-16).

God bared witness to that by giving Cornelius (and the rest of his household) the Spirit, (who also bared witness) in confirming that.

How did God purify the Gentiles hearts? By faith (Acts 15:9). When did God purify their hearts by faith? It was after they obeyed the truth through the Spirit (1 Peter 1:22-23) by obeying the Spirit inspired words (Acts 11:14). Believing (Acts 10:43), repentance (Acts 11:18) and being baptized (Acts 10:47-48.) In total, the Gentiles were told to believe (Acts 10:43), God granted them repentance unto life (Acts 11:18), and then they were baptized (Acts 10:48) for the same reasons the Jews were on Pentecost. For the remission of sins (Acts 2:38).

Rom. 1:16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek.

If this is your belief then you should be Afraid... Our attempts at being worthy by eliminating sin from our lives does not secure for us salvation.. We are not saved because we are good or worthy.. We are saved because we believe and trust in Jesus who is Good and Worthy and Able to save us.. Your above paragraph is works salvation mindset expressed in words.. If one wants to be saved one must have a Grace salvation mindset and be confident in the Atonement that the LORD Jesus secured by His sacrificial death on the cross..

If I sinned, then I’m not damned. If I didn’t, then I’m not. I get terrified and feel God is extremely angry at me when I sin.
We should hate the sin but love the sinner.. Because Jesus did and still does.. We should hate our own sins but know that we are loved..

This a miserable way of life.
Yep being on the Works salvation tread mill is a miserable way of life.. And a pointless way of life because no one has and no one ever will secure their eternal place in Gods paradise by making themselves worthy of entering it..

Any advice help will be appreciated. It’s as if I’m walking on eggshells all the time.
Believe Jesus and read about the criminal on the cross who believed Jesus and was told by Jesus that He would be in paradise with Jesus that very same day..

(Luke 23:32-43) "And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death. {33} And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left. {34} ¶ Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. {35} And the people stood beholding. And the rulers also with them derided him, saying, He saved others; let him save himself, if he be Christ, the chosen of God. {36} And the soldiers also mocked him, coming to him, and offering him vinegar, {37} And saying, If thou be the king of the Jews, save thyself. {38} And a superscription also was written over him in letters of Greek, and Latin, and Hebrew, THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. {39} ¶ And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us. {40} But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation? {41} And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss. {42} And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom. {43} And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise."

Romans 6:5 (NIV) "For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his."

From this verse, it sounds like once we are united with Christ in His death (i.e. repent, believe, symbolized by baptism), our future is invariably tied together with Christ's future.

@Adstar, did you ever stop to THINK and wonder whether I have WANTED, DESIRED, or LOOKED for what you call a “works based salvation”? No!! Not one time in my life have I EVER thought to myself “Hey..I have a great idea, I’m going to decide to have a works based salvation, where I get to heaven based on nothing but works and no grace!”

No!!

It’s people like YOU who are no help with your approach of words when someone is struggling with this mentality, and before you say “the truth hurts, doesn’t it?” maybe you should stop and ask yourself what has happened in one’s life to make them believe or feel this way, instead of automatically saying things that is no help, and go easy on your judgment toward others!!

You think this happened overnight? Days? Week? Months? Take a pick, and the answer will be NO, because it’s not a matter of WHEN it happened, but a matter of HOW it happened. And so far, NOBODY has asked the latter to try and find the root cause of the problem. Have you ever thought that maybe it’s not all the individual, but also what he/she has heard through many?

I will not see your response, because I’m going to put you on ignore.

You can continue to call me a works salvationist, but God knows what’s happened. You, on the other hand, have no clue.

Why would i have to think of or make any judgement on how you came to the beliefs you expressed in your early post.. All i have to do is read what you expressed and respond with the GOSPEL.. I read your points and in doing so i could see they where coming from a works salvation mindset.. So i responded by standing up for the TRUE salvation by grace..

It’s people like YOU who are no help with your approach of words when someone is struggling with this mentality, and before you say “the truth hurts, doesn’t it?”
The TRUTH is the TRUTH.. If i respond with the Truth then i have being RIGHT with the LORD Jesus.. You do not like my Response ???? Then thats your response and you are responsible for the way in which you react to the TRUTH.. Did the truth hurt you???? If you are offended by the truth then it is YOU who has a problem.. People LIKE YOU have been preaching and pushing works salvation teachi9ngs for hundreds of years and millions of people have been deceived by the Works salvation cult, people who should have become afraid for their salvation BECAUSE they where NOT SAVED.. You want me to be ashamed for standing up for the Truth of the loving salvation secured by Jesus on the cross??? NOPE don't waste your time..

maybe you should stop and ask yourself what has happened in one’s life to make them believe or feel this way,
I firstly assume they where subjected to false preaching, Or they did not understand salvation by grace.. Or they disbelieved in salvation by grace and believed in works salvation because that's what people naturally think is right.. But as the Bible reveals there is a way that men think is right but it is the way that leads to death.. Works salvation is the Way that men think is right and it is the way that leads to death because only Grace based salvation leads to Eternal life..

instead of automatically saying things that is no help, and go easy on your judgment toward others!!
What judgement? Did you feel judged?? Why did you feel judged??? Why did you react with hatred and denigration towards me because i simply layed out the truth of salvation by Grace? Maybe it was the Holy Spirit convicting you..

It happened because you came to believe that you needed to be sinless in your every day life.. Why do i need to discover WHY you can to believe in the lie of works salvation.. If you want others to know how you came to believe you needed to achieve a perfect sinless life in the flesh to have eternity, Why not simply TELL US why you believe as you believed?? Do you think we are called upon to read your mind??? NOPE we are flesh human beings and do not have Gods ability to read minds.. If you want people to know you thoughts then Share them in your posts..

I will not see your response, because I’m going to put you on ignore.
So be it..

You can continue to call me a works salvationist, but God knows what’s happened. You, on the other hand, have no clue.
I can only respond to what people express in their posts..... You clearly expressed Works salvation beliefs, So as a Christian i am duty bound to stand up and share the TRUE WAY of Salvation.. No matter what the response from people..

Using the nutshell paragraph, once again, what makes you think you're a Christian?

After you answer that, using that same nutshell, where is your "tightrope salvation"?

After you answer that, using that same nutshell, where is your "tightrope salvation"?
I’m confident that I answered your first question. Not sure what else to say about it.

To answer your second question, I should not have a “tightrope salvation”, as God’s word gives us a list of sins to avoid and a list of things to know whether or not we are living in Christ (1 Cor. 6:9-10, Gal. 5:19-26, 2 Pet. 1:3-12, 1 Jn. 2:28, 3:3-10, 18, 19, 23-24, 4:7-8, 16, 21, 5:1-3, etc etc).

That is how we examine ourselves to know we are in the faith (2 Cor. 13:5).

When walk according to the Spirit and not the flesh (Rom. 8:1) and are spiritually minded (v6), is one of the ways we practice the righteousness of God.

When we do sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus (1 Jn. 2:1).

Have I committed any works of the flesh today? No. Am I walking or living in sin (Col. 3:5-7)? No. Am I walking in the light (1 Jn. 1:7)? I would believe so. Am I walking in darkness (1 Jn. 1:6)? No. Are there some sins that I struggle with but not actively pursuing or committing? Yes (Rom. 3:23; 1 Jn. 1:8).

Based on all of that via God’s word as a Christian, I would say I am going to Heaven by His grace since I cannot live perfect, but that doesn’t mean to live in sin (Rom. 6:1).

You don't go to hell on just one sin. Just remain in God, don't resist His work in you and you'll be fine. Your salvation is meant to be enjoyed with the Lord! Just remain in Him. He gave you the Holy Spirit when you got saved so that He can empower you to live for Him in His way. The more you remain in Him, the more you will change to become more like our Lord Jesus and you'll even sin less because of Him.

So please don't focus on the sin - focus on God at work in your life. Ask Him to help you see what He's doing in your life - He will surely do it. Focus from now in your fellowship with the Lord. And enjoy your salvation in Him!
