A number of assemblies have quit preaching God's word. Does it matter? Yes, and that is why Satan tries to discourage us from studying God's word. It's not handbook for living, but it is food for the born again spirit. It also brings conviction on sinners when preached correctly.
Recently, I had a brief discussion with a sceptic. He stated that the Old Testament said nothing about Jesus dying and rising from the dead. It seemed obvious to me that he was a Jew. Why? The Jews refuse to read Isaiah chapter 53. It is so obviously about Lord Jesus that they shun it.
Isaiah 53 refutes the sceptic's claim categorically. There is no argument. Isaiah describes Jesus' suffering and death that some claimed that He deliberately modeled Himself on Isaiah's description. Absurd, of course.
When Satan tempted Lord Jesus in the wilderness, he quoted scripture. Part of the temptation was doubt and unbelief, the same method Satan used with Adam and Eve. If Adam and Eve had stuck with God's word, we would not be having this conversation.
Knowing God's word enables us to answer the mockers and keeps us free from doubt and unbelief. Don't rely only on the preacher. You have one day a week in church. Maybe you have a weekly Bible study as well. It's not enough. The Lord's prayer includes "give us this day our daily bread". Jesus is not referring to physical food. We can get that from the supermarket. We need the Word of God daily. Not eating leads to physical weakness. Lack of spiritual knowledge leads to spiritual weakness.
