A few times, that's awesome! Plan is to read at least 5 chapters a day. Post here when we completed the chapters and note anything important or anything learned.

that be well for my soul also. Seeing one gigantic jig saw puzzle, that only God can properly place. So many times I have tried to read the word in whole, got stuff out of it, put puzzle pieces together, and later found out from God in me, that those pieces do not fit, and then it gets taken out and placed where it is to be and I learn and continue learning
the entire Bible is a Gigantic Love letter from God to us all. First Testament to reveal our need for a savior in all the failures of people we, I read about including especially the first chosen ones.
I am convinced from the First testament alone, no one is perfect, especially those trying to be, simply got worse at sin, than before knowing Law given them, to not sin. they simply just sinned all the more. Then made up Laws 316 to cover all their mistakes, they made, with the we need to do this instead of that attitudes. Still going on today in the New Testament Churches
Hebrews 8:1-4 The Temple destroyed in AD 70, Man sees it and says we need to rebuild it, and call it the new Church, Really? Hallelujah, the truth still carries on through it Acts 5:38-42
I see God in Son said in John 4 that the day has come And now is, that people will not worship here or there anymore. What? the Church is us, the people the Ecclesia, the called out ones. That is the true Church
Church is a building, and was put in place of the word Ecclesia, because man wants control, wants to be the way and is in the way of truth "God loves you" period. Think on that truth, sink it in, be new in love to all too, as are called and given by God through risen Son, thank you

Thanks for sharing. I believe we should read His Word from beginning to end. Many people can read books from cover to cover, but somehow most do not do that with the Bible.

Will you be starting from Genesis again? Have you ever completed reading from Genesis to Revelations?

I already do this anyway. I'm currently in the Gospels, but can make arrangements.

Btw, I often say Revelations with an "s" even though I know it's Revelation. So, carry on. We all know what you mean :coffee:

Nice! Will start with notes from Genesis Chapters 1-5

Gen 1:7-8 - There is water in Heaven (did not see where it states that there is dry land in Heaven which would make sense for what is described in Revelation)

Gen 1:26-27 - For those who have heard of "world mission society church of god" - they use these verses as evidence that there is a "god the mother." Verse 27- "So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them" -KJV. A semi colon was used in the sentence which separates independent clauses. It states that God created him (male) in his own image and God created male and female (them).

Gen 1:29-30 - Green herbs and fruit of a tree yielding a seed was given as good to eat. With vegan and carnivore being mainstream this was interesting to note since many claim one is superior to the other. Later on eating of animals is permitted.

Gen 2:9 - God grew the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I have not heard much or read yet about the tree of life.

Gen 2:11-14 - Have not found a map that shows all four rivers Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates. From an internet search it is unknown where the garden of Eden was.

Gen 3:16 - Because of Eve's sin, God cursed woman in childbearing and for the husband to rule over her. It seems well known that women were cursed with pain during childbirth. Was not aware it was a curse for the husband to rule over women.

Gen 3:22-24 - Tree of life is mentioned again with mystery around it.
V22"And the Lord God said, Behold, the man is become as one of us, to know good and evil: and now, lest he put forth his hand, and take also of the tree of life, and eat, and lie for ever:
V23 Therefore the Lord God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to til the ground from whence he was taken.
V24 So he edrove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming swaord turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life." KJV

Gen 4:8 - Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's sons. Cain slew Abel.

Gen 4:15 - The Lord set a mark on Cain for him to be killed for what he did to Abel

Gen 4:25 - God had favor for Seth as he did Abel

Gen 5:5 - Adam lived 930 years

Gen 5:18 - Son Jared from Seth's lineage had a son named Enoch as did Cain son of Adam.

Gen 5:24 - "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not: for God took him." - this was Enoch from Seth's lineage the son who God favored.

Gen 5:29 - Noah is from Seth's lineage

Gen 5:29 - Noah is from Seth's lineage
Okay, I will see if it works well for me to intersperse my comments with yours. I begin at the beginning, and I will put my comments regarding what you said in brackets [ ]:

GN 1:1-3.God created the heavens and the earth” by saying “Let there be…”, so the supernatural world manifests the Word of God in an impersonal way. As Paul teaches in RM 1:20, “Since the creation of the world, God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” And John says in JN 1:14, “The Word became flesh [human] and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The scientific “big bang” theory regarding the origin of the universe is quite compatible with the biblical story, theorizing that just before the beginning all matter in the universe was compressed to a “singularity” the size of a marble! However, the point of GN is not how the world was created or how long it took, but who created it and why. It is concerned with metaphysics rather than mere physics. There is no reason to believe that the “days” in GN 1 must refer to 24 hour periods, because 2PT 2:8 says “With the Lord a day is like a thousand [or a billion] years”, so it is permissible to believe God created the world using whatever methods taking however long scientific data seem to support.

Gen 1:7-8 - There is water in Heaven (did not see where it states that there is dry land in Heaven which would make sense for what is described in Revelation) [I wonder if "light" in v.3 represents energy, and "water" in v.7 represents matter.]

GN 1:27. God created man in his own image, male and female. Here we have the equality of the sexes expressed 3,000 years ago, because the word “image” obviously refers to God’s personality rather than to sexuality. Essential equality is confirmed in GN 2:22 by Eve’s creation from Adam’s rib or side to be his partner rather than from his foot to be his slave.

Although all of Jesus’ twelve apostles were male, many of his disciples were female, and Paul writes (in GL 3:38), “There is neither… male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” In EPH 5:21, Paul added “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.”

Current scientific theory based on genetic research is that humanity descended from one couple in Africa about 50,000 years ago, which is compatible with the biblical story of Adam and Eve, which has two accounts, neither of which is meant to be scientific or historical (explaining how and when), but rather theological and moral (God is Creator and people are sinners).

Gen 1:29-30 - Green herbs and fruit of a tree yielding a seed was given as good to eat. With vegan and carnivore being mainstream this was interesting to note since many claim one is superior to the other. Later on eating of animals is permitted. [While I can see that it would be better not to need meat in our diet, I am glad the Lord permits it for this earth, and I hope animals are raised nicely and killed as painlessly as possible.]

Gen 2:9 - God grew the tree of life and the tree of knowledge of good and evil. I have not heard much or read yet about the tree of life. [It will be encountered again at the end of our reading project in RV 2:7, 22:2,14&19, so it must represent Christ (JN 14:6)]

Gen 2:11-14 - Have not found a map that shows all four rivers Pison, Gihon, Hiddekel, and Euphrates. From an internet search it is unknown where the garden of Eden was. [That is correct. If it was a physical garden, it is reasonable to think it would be in Mesopotamia. The NIV has Tigris instead of Kiddekel.]

GN 2:24. “For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh” indicates that marriage is a spiritual union of one man and one wife, not merely a ceremony or legal contract. Jesus quoted this verse and added “So they are no longer two, but one. Therefore what God has joined together, let man not separate.” (MT 19:4-6)

The only relationship in which sexual intercourse is appropriate or moral is marriage; extramarital sex is the sin of fornication, which is akin to the sin of pornography (cf. GL 5:19, RM 1:27). Also, because divorce is wrong, the only moral option for a married couple is to work to be happy rather than be miserable and become spiritually divorced, and if happiness is not achieved, it would have been better not to marry (cf. MT 19:8-10).

GN 3:4. The serpent contradicted God and thereby tempted Adam and Eve to commit the first sin. In GN 2:17, God had told Adam and Eve they would die if they ate fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil, but the serpent introduced the option of ungodliness or functional atheism, which they chose.

The first or original sin was not eating physical fruit, but rather choosing not to doubt the Devil, not to cooperate with God, and not asking God why the serpent contradicted what He had told them (MT 7:7). (It is wise to question God.)

GN 3:7-13. Adam and Eve tried to cover up their crime, refusing to accept responsibility for their mistakes. They should have confessed immediately (1JN 1:9). Instead their ungodly attitude was manifested by a chain of sins, including their silly attempt to hide from God and to blame someone else and very likely “dysfunctional” parenting that probably contributed to the emotional disturbance (anger) in Cain that resulted in the murder of Abel and so on and so forth through the millenniums.

Gen 3:16 - Because of Eve's sin, God cursed woman in childbearing and for the husband to rule over her. It seems well known that women were cursed with pain during childbirth. Was not aware it was a curse for the husband to rule over women. [Yes, instead of being equal, women throughout history have been second class status.]

Gen 3:22-24 - Tree of life is mentioned again with mystery around it. [Yes, see above.]

Gen 4:8 - Cain and Abel were Adam and Eve's sons. Cain slew Abel. [Yes, hate and murder ensue from disrespecting God's Word. As Jesus says in JN 8:44a, "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning..."]

Gen 4:15 - The Lord set a mark on Cain for him to be killed for what he did to Abel [so that he would NOT be killed,]

Gen 4:25 - God had favor for Seth as he did Abel [Yes, through whose lineage Messiah would be provided to atone for the sins of humanity]

Gen 5:5 - Adam lived 930 years [due to an unpolluted environment?]

Gen 5:18 - Son Jared from Seth's lineage had a son named Enoch as did Cain son of Adam. Gen 5:24 - "And Enoch walked with God: and he was not: for God took him." - this was Enoch from Seth's lineage the son who God favored. [Yes, we can wonder if this foreshadows the Rapture.]

Gen 5:29 - Noah is from Seth's lineage [Yes, another righteous man in the heritage of Christ.]

Please continue going first unless someone else wants to join us and take the lead.

NOTE: My Reply was too long ("more than 1,000 words" ?), so I cut our your part between the Quotes since I have copied it in my Reply. We will see if it works this time.

May I ask, do you believe there is a "god the mother"? I like to study cults and it seems a lot cults throughout time seem to believe this. In past ages until now, from large cults to tiny cults (like Amy Carlson). I ask respectfully, but I honestly think it's a bunch of hooey.
This sort of thing seems to even have slipped into Christian churches. I've never been a Methodist, but I visited a Methodist church a couple of years ago and was shocked to hear the preacher (a man) teaching that Christ could have came as a woman. I was aghast and never returned. After this, I had a dream that that preacher is a serpent.
In my belief, Christ has always been male. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is and who was and who is to come, the Almighty.” ~ Revelations 1:8
---
I personally believe we were vegans in Eden and God gave the go ahead to eat meat after the Great Flood.
---

Just a few of my thoughts/study on the first 2 chapters (I'll do the next 3 later after lunch).

Imma have to get into some creationism here, 'cause we in my favorite book.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who loves that God created light before He created the sun (sun wasn't created until the 4th day).

"The universe is big to us, but it isn’t big to God! He is so powerful that it wasn’t hard for Him to make the universe very big. The stars and planets bring God glory and they give us a lot to investigate and explore!" ~Lita Cosner & Jonathan Sarfati (Creation.com)

Genesis 1:6-9...people have different viewpoints on this, I don't want to step on any toes. I'll just say I lean toward physicist and creationist Dr. Russell Humpreys on this topic. His work is fascinating! But, his work is also very brainy and a lot to put here.

Genesis 1:26-27 "Man’s breath and spirit are closely related, and sometimes the words are used almost interchangeably. When the breath departs from a person’s body at death, the spirit also departs with it, but the latter “shall return unto God who gave it” (Ecclesiastes 12:7)." ~ ICR

Genesis 2:18-22 The human rib is amazing: Human Ribs: Amazing & Regenerating

"Although all bones can repair themselves, ribs can regenerate themselves.
The rib bone is one of the few bones mentioned by name in Scripture.
God chose from Adam the one bone that could regenerate itself." ~AIG

“That the woman was made of a rib out of the side of Adam; not made out of his head to rule over him, nor out of his feet to be trampled upon by him, but out of his side to be equal with him, under his arm to be protected, and near his heart to be beloved.”
~Matthew Henry

So, we end chapter 2 with two perfect people in a perfect world. Things take a dark turn soon...but a great hope also arrives. The prophecy of the coming of Christ. In the future, we will get back to a new and perfect world as perfect people. I dare say, I believe it'll be even better than Eden!

Okay, here's the rest of my thoughts. Also, I probably should note that I have different beliefs than most people as far as creation goes. As a Biblical Creationist, I do not believe in the big bang theory. I believe in a 6 literal day creation week occurring approximately 6,000 years ago. I state this to let it be known that there are other beliefs than those already stated in this thread and people tend to vary as far as origins beliefs go.
Anyway, back to it...

Genesis 3
"The serpent contradicted God’s warning, saying that Eve wouldn’t die—instead, something [presumably] wonderful would happen—she would become just like God! So she disobeyed God and ate the fruit. She offered some to Adam, and he ate." ~CMI
This of course is a sad situation. But, what makes my heart swell is what comes next. She is promised a son that will claim victory over the serpent. The only one who could do this is man and God, aka Christ! Adam and Eve were the first to receive the Gospel! This fills my heart with joy.

Genesis 4

Cain murders Abel. This is the first murder. Cain is married. I believe that Cain married his sister. Genesis says that Adam had sons and daughters. Also, the law against marrying relatives didn't come about until Moses. In the beginning, we were created perfectly and there wouldn't have been problems with offspring coming from a brother and sister. But, due to being in a fallen world, later this wouldn't be the case due to mutations. "Harmful mutations would take many generations to accumulate to levels where close intermarriage would be dangerous for the offspring." ~CMI

Genesis 5

Genealogy of people who lived a very long time. This went downhill after Noah. There are a few theories as to why this is the case. A good possibility is due to Noah having had his sons when he was 500 years old, causing genetic reason for the decline in lifespan after the Great Flood.

Enoch on the other hand, is taken by God. He is one of two people in the Bible who this happens to, the other being Elijah.

When the breath departs from a person’s body at death, the spirit also departs with it, but the latter “shall return unto God who gave i (Ecclesiastes 12:7)." ~ ICR

I do not agree with the ideology of "god the mother" that is why I mentioned those verses were interpreted incorrectly. They say that since "us" and "male and female" were mentioned, that implies there is a god the father and god the mother. I said that it was not the case because he only made "him" (male) in his image. When male and female was mentioned, it was stated separately after a semi colon which made it independent from what was said before it. The creator of that organization was originally an SDA which is why they have similar practices. I recently came in contact with one of their members and did research on them because I did not agree with what they were trying to teach. They are popular right now and targeting college students, shopping centers, and gated communities. They are instructed to not teach to the disabled or the homeless.

I would have been just as surprised as you hearing a pastor saying that Christ could have came as a woman. I would have not returned either😂

I agree with you, that God, Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit is male. God is referred to as He throughout the Bible. Jesus Christ is male. God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit are one, Alpha and Omega.

From what the Bible shows we were vegans until Noah's time. I mentioned this because there are vegans who believe that is the only way we should eat and there are carnivores that believe we should only eat animal products. That was interesting for me to read regarding our diet.

Glad we're in your favorite book! I'm developing more of an appreciation for Genesis now that I'm more engaged in learning His Word from beginning to end.

I noticed that too. Light was made before the sun and the moon. Pretty fascinating.

Interesting, never knew that about ribs, have to look into that

Where did Matthew Henry get this concept from?
I'm not sure that I can say that God ever intended women to be equal to men.
Animals were created before Eve because He saw that Adam was lonely.
He then created Eve as a help meet to Adam.
While I was studying, I noticed that God always refers to Eve as the wife of Adam. She is always referred to as the wife until Adam names her Eve when they are to leave the Garden of Eden.
According to Gen 3:16 "Unto the woman he said, I will greatly multiply thy sorrow and thy conception; in sorrow thou shalt bring forth children; and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee" According to this verse it appears men and women are not equal. God cursed women after Eve's sin and tempting Adam to commit sin. When they discuss the lineages, it is spoken of the sons not daughters. If anything seems amiss, please shed light on it! I'm making observations from where I am presently at in the Bible. I know things will change on the way to and when Revelation is concluded. The curses will be broken!

Amen to Jesus Christ!
