(For those who are struggling with uncertainty and fear for the future.)
š„The Certainty that Uncertainty is still in His Controlš„
Philippians 4:6-7 ESV
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
Hebrews 10:35 ESV
Therefore do not throw away your confidence, which has a great reward.
Many are anxious about the election and our future well-being. As one who had to climb out of the mental illness of anxiety and panic attacks that were so severe that I'd lose consciousness, I understand the weight on your shoulders. It felt out of control at times and what soon became a prison of mental anguish. Much of my future career goals and plans were now a reminder that I could not have people depend on me if I couldn't even depend on myself to not fall into the cycle of panic and blackouts.
Therapy helped me see the spiritual truth moving forward that I needed a foundation. I call it the truth foundation. A foundation that can withstand the lies and uncertainty of the world.
For me, it was a search within all things that claimed to provide us with truth. Religion, philosophy, and science. Long story short, the evidence pointed to Christianity which provided the answers to questions about life and death in general.
I knew from this point forward if I were to find any type of peace, I would need to filter all the lies and contradicting worldviews against the foundation of the scriptures.
So I read the Bible and filtered all thoughts, beliefs, past advice, etc with the guidance of God.
Years of study, healing, and a sense of peace that surpassed my understanding began to change me.
BUT guess what? That peace is only gained when in full CONTINUAL surrender to Jesus. Mind, body, and soul. IF you take your eyes off of Him, you will begin to sink in fear and worry.
If you come to the spiritual altar carrying sin, guilt, shame, anger, unforgiveness, etc, then you will only be distracted. Repent, fall into grace, and accept the Lord for who He is as LORD and SAVIOR. Lay it all down and rest (sabbath) from your works. The Lord of Sabbath will reside in you. Rest in Him every day which is the peace to sleep in the midst of the storms.
Our confidence is not in the world but in the promises of God. We confide in Christ alone.
So what of the world?
We pray, we do the good works that God has prepared, we proclaim the truth, and understand that God is sovereign. Scripture says that it is God who put us in this time of history for a purpose, He placed us in the boundaries of nations, and He established the need for government. He gives the people what they desire even if the desire is for wickedness.
Why? People do not search for the light switch if the room is already lit up. As we all know from recent hurricanes, it takes work to keep the lights on. A few hardworking people help keep the lights on for millions of people.
The millions will go about their day doing what they desire without even a thought about all that goes into place to bring the light.
When it goes dark, the people cry out, and the few get to work.
When the Israelites were told to go into the promised land, the majority refused. Despite the willing obedience of Moses, Joshua, and Caleb they would have to endure 40 years of living in the wilderness.
Sometimes God uses the remnant to enter into the promise. Regardless of what happens after the election, we must be like Joshua who remained faithful in the wilderness and as of Daniel who remained faithful in being exiled.
We must keep working to bring the light as the threat of darkness gives rise to the cry for deliverance. Pray for His peace that surpasses all understanding and rest in the confidence that all things are leading to the blessed promise of salvation. Amen.
