And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye? Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye? Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother's eye. Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles? Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit. A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit. Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

Yes, the title of this thread was misleading. Verse 5 indicates that Jesus said we should judge correctly by beginning with our own sins.

Some judgement is required as we will know them by their fruits and there are wolves in sheep's clothing, hiding among us. Even some of the faithful who are living in sin much as the man in 1 Cor who was with his father's wife. The Church there was told not to consider him as an unbeliever, but also not to even eat with him. And in another place we're told that bad company corrupts good morals.

Unhappiness because once you start to judge the beggar, the chances you'll find someone who's "better" than you are astronomically high, this also leads to envy. Who is more important really? The peasant or the king? Each has it's place, food is vitally important and a military is vitally important. The world works best when these people work together. So while the king makes more decisions on an individual level, they need each other.

Strife because if you think you're inherently better than someone you might treat them like dirt, which leads to friction and conflict. I mean think about it, if you and yours are superior you tend to look down on other people. Hitler believed the Germans were superior and they got into quite the fight with the world. The biggest war in human history I believe.

Keep it simple, Lord Jesus was talking in the 'prejudice' sense, not in the discerning of evil sense. Have you ever been guilty of being prejudiced against someone without cause? maybe because you hang out among a certain group of friends that are prejudiced against someone, but you don't know why? Those are the kind of things Lord Jesus was pointing to in Matthew 7:1-5.
