Okay, okay, hear me out... No, we shouldn't walk around identifying as pancakes, the world doesn't need that on top of everything else, haha! However, think on it with me. Pancakes or waffles? Which are you? Which do you want to be?(....And for fun, which is your favorite to eat?)
With a waffle, the syrup is poured (if you're anything like me you're dumping the sweetness like there's no tomorrow, but for the sake of the analogy, let's say you moderately pour a decent amount) and is held in the little pockets, sometimes they don't even all get filled. This can be like the Christian who says they believe in Jesus, but do nothing to show it. Sure, they go to church, but once that hour or so is over it's back to filthy language and inappropriate Instagram posts. They say, "Yeah, God, you can have this pocket where I am with my Grandma, but I don't want you in my partying Fridays because that is when I want to have fun." You see?
Now with a pancake, the syrup is poured and it spills all over and is soaked up and pools around the sides. This is the Christian I want to be, the one it calls for me to be in the Bible. We, as Jesus' lamps to the world, should soak up the light given to us through the Holy Spirit. We should let it surround us and touch others, let it be seen through us where our light comes from and who we stand for. Let Jesus' love soak through you, spill over you and pool around you to touch others.
Matthew 5:14-16: “You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”
