Hey Everyone,

I recently started following a home cook on YouTube from Hawaii -- and, in staying true to his roots, he uses Spam in several of his recipes. (I've heard Spam is very popular in Hawaii, though I'm not sure why.) If anyone knows, please feel free to enlighten the rest of the crowd! :D

I'm not a big meat eater as it is, but canned meat is just... its own level of evil and horror among Things That Should Never Be Consumed.

The only enjoyment I get out of Spam is the endless stream of memes and jokes I see made about it:

What about you?

Does Spam count as an actual food -- or is it more like The Phantom Menace?

Just for kicks, I'm going to write a poll regarding the many possible uses of Spam -- but don't let that stop you from posting!

The poll will be multiple choice with visible answers -- because no one needs to hide their TRUE feelings when it comes to Spam.

Dang it -- I messed up.

I had a few more ideas for the poll, but accidentally hit "Post" and was frantically trying to add some things in before the 5-minute editing limit.

Ironically, it makes this whole poll a bit like Spam itself -- incoherent tidbits haphazardly thrown together with leftover remnants of completely indigestible nonsense.

Spam is what you eat
When you can't afford meat
You buy and convince yourself
That it's a real treat

Spam is like souse, scrapple, potted meat, Vienna sausages... Back in the day most people couldn't afford real meat, so they took the leftover scraps and made it into all these pseudo meats.

Hard times are gone now and we can afford the real thing. The only people who should be eating that junk is people who grew up with it and have strong nostalgia, or people who don't know any better.

My friends and I used to take a couple cans of Spam on our backpacking trips. We didn't have to worry about it spoiling in the cans. You could fry it up over the campfire and let's admit it, everything tastes edible when you are camping.

Then the first gay pride parade that I heard of was on YouTube. It was MC'd by the mayor of San Francisco and James Hormel, owner of the company that makes Spam. They both praised NAMBLA for their work. That was the last time that I bought a Hormel product or took Spam on a backpacking trip. 🤮

This poor puppy was forced to attend the parade. He ate some Spam and threw up a Rainbow 🌈!

OOOHHH... @CarriePie voted in favor of Spam and I can't wait to hear her explanation!!! :D

If ANYONE in the world could justify the existence of Spam to me, it would be her...

Okay, I'm going to be the weirdo...again. I actually like the taste of Spam. I don't eat it often. Sometimes I go a year without eating it, sometimes longer and on the rare occasion less than a year. Anyway, there are 2 simple ways in which I eat it. I slice it and fry it, then I'll eat it between 2 slices of honey wheat bread. Sometimes I will fry the slices and also some eggs to go on the side. I tend to prefer overhard eggs, but for some reason with Spam I prefer scrambled on the side.

There really isn't any justification...I'm just an odd person!

The state with the highest per capita consumption of Spam is Hawaii. Haven't had it for years, used to slice and fry for sandwiches. Possible consideration for inclusion for the Lake of Fire.

There's a special version of SPAM in Hawaii that my wife's coworker brought back for her. It was amazing!

That's how I ate it to - slice & fry for sandwiches. Honey wheat bread is very good. Spam would probably go well with eggs - I prefer scrambled or fried but don't like runny yokes. Gonna buy a can of Spam at my local super Walmart tomorrow. Got plenty of bread, eggs, and OJ so I'm good. If I do a sandwich I'm going to spread mustard on it. French's.

Vienna sausages suck. Belongs on the Lake of Fire list.

I don't like runny yolks either. Glad I'm not alone. I'm also feeling like going to get some Spam soon!

Dang it.

Between this "special Spam" and the Vegemite... Now I'm REALLY curious

(Do Hawaiians somehow have a Monopoly on Spam that's actually, gulp, edible?!

All I can say is thank God for MREs. Old vets know what I mean.

I searched on my search engine, " YouTube, dogs eat spam."
All the results but one came up that said Spam is NOT safe for dogs.
Dogs eat rotten things, poop and other gross stuff that make people think twice about doggie kisses.

Apparently, the FDA approves Spam for human consumption, however vets and dog websites say absolutely NO!
💩 Is perfectly fine, but never feed your pet dog potted meat food products like Spam. 😄

MREs are not good, but they are better than starving to death. Just barely better.
