Brother and Sisters,

Some say, “We do not have to keep the Sabbath. Because that is under the old covenant Jewish law!” Yet they want to pick and choose other laws for their gain, like tithing for themselves.

Really, who told you that you are naked and are not under the old covenant and laws? Because that is what you are saying! My King said, I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it.

Though the second covenant is “new”, made by the Lord with his creation just as he did with Abraham. The foundation is old and unchanging as is the corner stone. Who said, I have not come to abolish the law but to fulfill it. The sacrificial law for sin. To set you free from the bondage of sin and death.

Are we, then, abolishing law through faith? May it never be! Rather, we are establishing law (Romans 3:31).

So then, whose mouth and by what authority has this “change” of the Sabbath day to forget it become spoken and adhered to by followers of man? Tell me, what scripture supports this?

I tell you the truth, it is the mouth of the one who said, eat it, for surly you will not die? Sorry to offend, but If you say it is not, then please help me, share your talent that it may be weighed and measured against the word of God! Using the Holy scripture show me this teaching? Because this has been a journey for me by God to get here to this realization myself. Well, while we wait here is scriptures in the Bible proving the covenant and law does apply.

Remember our Lord said, For truly, I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not an iota, not a dot, will pass from the Law until all is accomplished.

Matthew 5:17

Matthew 12:8

Matthew 19 16-23
Do you not know the Lord knows the hearts of man? When this young man came to him what was his first statement/question?

Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? (You can do no good deed to earn eternal life, even in Judaism). Sacrifice only.

My Lord replied, and why do you call me good? There is only one good, God!
(Hinting at His authority the Father had given Him and who He was). For only God can forgive sins and thereby man have eternal life! Which is the authority given to Christ that we may honor the Son as we honor the Father John 5:22-23.

Knowing this man’s heart he said, keep the commandments. To which he knew the man would reply, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. (He summarized them with the last statement). For he knew he lacked these things because he was very rich. Many are never satisfied because that is the way of the flesh. They want and want, and will take and take with no regard who they hurt. They covet, and hold tightly their treasure with greed and little regard for those with less. Because their heart and souls are empty and void for it hungers and is constantly fed of the world instead of God.

The young man said, all these things I have kept from my youth. What else do I lack? (Lie, with pride, no one can keep the commandments)

If you would be perfect, my Lord said, then go and sell all you have. Give it to the poor, and follow me. (The Lord knew how he would answer but gave him one last change to realize it, though he wouldn’t acknowledge his sin and repent)

But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. (He stayed in the world because he loved its temporary pleasure on earth more than God). This is the way of the religious as well, because they do not want to see their sin. They deceive themselves like this young man. This is the lesson. I expanded k. This teaching because some try to use it for an argument why the Sabbath is not needed.

The Sabbath was a SIGN of the covenant for ISRAEL alone. Covenant obsolete, no more sign.

Exo 31:13
“Tell the people of Israel: ‘Be careful to keep my Sabbath day, for the Sabbath is a sign of the covenant between me and you from generation to generation. It is given so you may know that I am the LORD, who makes you holy.

Eze 20:12
And I gave them my Sabbath days of rest as a sign between them (ISRAEL) and me. It was to remind them that I am the LORD, who had set them apart to be holy.

Eze 20:20
and keep my Sabbath days holy, for they are a sign to remind you (ISRAEL) that I am the LORD your God.'

Actually Born again Christians HAVE KEPT the "Sabbath" since we REST in Jesus, and have ceased from our labors.

But the one day out of 7 to rest is also a medical, and mental necessity.

Luke 4:16 "And He came to Nazareth, where He had been brought up; and as was His custom, He entered the synagogue on the Sabbath, and stood up to read."

Acts 17:1-2 "Now when they had traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews. 2 And according to Paul’s custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures"

If keeping the Sabbath was good for Jesus and Paul, it's good enough for me.

Jesus lived as a Jew under the old covenant of Law. I don't know how you get Paul keeping the sabbath from Acts 17:1 & 2. Try reading all of the NT. Galatians and Colossians would be a good start.

And what do you mean "keep" the sabbath? And why only the sabbath? There are 613 commandments, not 10. Why not keep them all? Good luck with that. If you can, Jesus died in vain.

Even after his conversion, Paul still followed the Law. He just did it in proper context to salvation by faith. And Jesus himself told His followers to follow the Law and to teach others to do so. If there ever appears to be a contradiction between what Jesus says and what Paul says, I always default to Jesus' words. Paul CANNOT be in opposition to Jesus's words. If we believe that, we've got realt problems.

I do my best to follow all of the commandments, physically and or spiritually when applicable. Not because I'm trying to earn anything or improve my standing before God. But because all of those instructions were given to His people to show them how to live. And so my loving response to my Savior is to follow those to the best of my ability. Knowing full well that I'll never do them perfectly.

What is the work to which the Father has for you? To do your best to follow the Law that is now obsolete? No; to believe in the One Whom He has sent. I encourage you to meditate on the practical meaning of “rest in Christ”.

I do my best to follow the instructions God has given His people. The same instructions Jesus said to follow. I follow the instructions the Holy Spirit gives me. There absolutely is rest in God's gracious salvation. But that doesn't mean we sit on our hands and do nothing.

Rubbish. Unless you are Jewish, the Law never has applied to you, even before you were saved. "Hear, Oh Israel", says God. Not to Egypt, Babylon, Persia or any other nation.

Christians are not just saved by grace, they also live by grace. We have the life of Christ within, who fulfills all righteousness all the time. If all you have is the Law, you are far short of God's glory. Lord Jesus made this clear when He spoke His sermon from the mount. Do you even know the purpose of the Law? It is simply to expose the inability of man to keep it. If you can keep the law, then you do not need Jesus to save you.

God does not accept your feeble attempts to please Him. The only one who has ever pleased God is Jesus, the beloved Son of god, in whom God is well pleased.

I still don't know where you get the idea that Paul kept the Law. He condemned those who tried to put Christians back under the Law. Read Acts 15 to find out what the leaders of the church had to say to Gentile Christians. There is no mention of observing the sabbath.

You do as you please. Just don't kid yourself that you are necessarily obeying God, pleasing God or better than believers who do not follow the Jewish sabbath regulations. Being led by the Spirit is the mark of being a Son of God, not following the commandments.

The sabbath does not apply to Christians. You should do a proper study of God's word to find out the relationship between the law and the believer.

Rubbish. Unless you are Jewish, the Law never has applied to you, even before you were saved. "Hear, Oh Israel", says God. Not to Egypt, Babylon, Persia or any other nation.
God's Instructions are not for "Jewish" people as we know them today. God was, and is, the God of Israel. Far before the nation of Israel was formed. So when God says, "Hear, Oh Israel", He isn't talking to a physical nation or religion. He's talking to His chosen people. Which Gentile Christians are now grafted into. (Romans 11)

Christians are not just saved by grace, they also live by grace. We have the life of Christ within, who fulfills all righteousness all the time.
This is where some people get hung up. What does it mean to "live by grace?" What does a life lived by grace look like? Yes, Christ within us is our righteousness and our only source of salvation. But a life lived by grace means our life looks different spiritually AND physically. It means walking in obedience to His Holy Spirit, and the instructions given throughout the entire Bible.

If all you have is the Law, you are far short of God's glory. Lord Jesus made this clear when He spoke His sermon from the mount. Do you even know the purpose of the Law? It is simply to expose the inability of man to keep it. If you can keep the law, then you do not need Jesus to save you.
You're right, the Law alone cannot save. It was never intended to. Paul spoke "against" the Law to those who thought they could be saved by their obedience to it. If people thought their obedience to the Law could save them, then Paul came against that saying it was worthless. But he wasn't saying the Law itself was worthless. That's why Jesus told His disciples to follow the Law and to teach others to do the same.
Matthew 5:17-19 " “Do not presume that I came to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I did not come to abolish, but to fulfill. 18 For truly I say to you, until heaven and earth pass away, not the smallest letter or stroke of a letter shall pass from the Law, until all is accomplished! 19 Therefore, whoever nullifies one of the least of these commandments, and teaches others to do the same, shall be called least in the kingdom of heaven; but whoever keeps and teaches them, he shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven. "

God does not accept your feeble attempts to please Him. The only one who has ever pleased God is Jesus, the beloved Son of god, in whom God is well pleased.
I disagree. Once we have accepted the salvation bought through Jesus' death, our life should be about walking in a way that pleases Him.
Hebrews 13:15-16 " Through Him then, let’s continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips praising His name. 16 And do not neglect doing good and sharing, for with such sacrifices God is pleased. "

1 John 3:21-22 "Beloved, if our heart does not condemn us, we have confidence before God; 22 and whatever we ask, we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight. "

I still don't know where you get the idea that Paul kept the Law. He condemned those who tried to put Christians back under the Law. Read Acts 15 to find out what the leaders of the church had to say to Gentile Christians. There is no mention of observing the sabbath.
The only times Paul spoke against the Law was when people were using it to gain eternal favor before God. Context is key. Acts 15 bears that out.
Acts 15:1 "Some men came down from Judea and began teaching the brothers, “Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.”

But a couple of verses as to Paul keeping the Law:
Acts 24:14 "But I confess this to you, that in accordance with [h]the Way, which they call a sect, I do serve the God of our fathers, believing everything that is in accordance with the Law and is written in the Prophets"
Acts 25:8 "while Paul said in his own defense, “I have not done anything wrong either against the Law of the Jews, or against the temple, or against Caesar.”

And much of Romans 7 when Paul talks about the distinction between flesh and Spirit. Romans 7:12 "So then, the Law is holy, and the commandment is holy and righteous and good."

It's illogical to think that God would give the law to show what sin is, and then tell us that we don't have to follow the Law, insinuating that it's ok to sin now that we have salvation.
Romans 6:15-16 "What then? Are we to sin because we are not under the Law but under grace? Far from it! 16 Do you not know that the one to whom you present yourselves as slaves for obedience, you are slaves of that same one whom you obey, either of sin resulting in death, or of obedience resulting in righteousness?"

You do as you please. Just don't kid yourself that you are necessarily obeying God, pleasing God or better than believers who do not follow the Jewish sabbath regulations. Being led by the Spirit is the mark of being a Son of God, not following the commandments.
I don't think I'm better than other believers based on some sort of an obedience score card. We should all be lead by the Holy Spirit. But it's important to realize that the Holy Spirit sometimes calls us to obey God in practical matters, as well as spiritual. I'd venture to say that your life has been filled with many times where the Holy Spirit has lead you to do something, and you obeyed it.

He didn’t “insinuate” anything of the sort. Rather, He gave us His Spirit by Whom we live. The indwelling Spirit guides us and leads us in God’s ways and not into sin.

This is what ‘Christian’ legalists don’t understand. They think that external laws are needed to restrict human sin. In truth, the Spirit is far more effective at preventing sin than any law. That’s why, for the Christian, the law is “obsolete”, as Hebrews 13:8 states.

Exactly. I don't need 613 commandments to tell me how to live. Those who are led by the Spirit of God are the sons of God. Not those who are led by the law. Many Christians seem to confuse God's commands with God's commandments. The Christian life is a life of obedience, or should be. But not to the written commandments. They are obsolete, a shadow of the reality. I'll live in the light, thanks all the same. I died to the law and now I live in Christ and He in me. We call it the New Covenant because it is new. The Law is of the old.

You have no idea of the difference between law and grace. You have yet to discover the purpose of the law. It's a shame because you live under bondage. You can't keep the law. The temple has been destroyed. God allowed this deliberately so that people could not keep the letter of the law. The principle we live by now is the Law of the Spirit of Life. If we are walking in the Spirit, we are pleasing to God. Obeying the law is insufficient. That's what Jesus was pointing out in His sermon on the mount. It is possible to obey the law in every way yet still sin and displease God.

Your question tells me that you don’t understand the Law at all. Most of the ordinances are not prohibitions.

The Holy Spirit’s guidance supersedes the Law but He will not lead the believer to sin. That said, the Law does not explain everything that is sin.

Galatians 5:14, Ecclesiastes 12:13, Romans 13:10b The entire law is fulfilled in a single decree: “Love your neighbor as yourself.” When all has been heard, the conclusion of the matter is this: Fear God and keep His commandments, because this is the whole duty of man. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.
