Does anyone else feel like they are just waiting to be activated by God? I read my bible daily, I pray a lot. The response I believe I have received from God is to wait, but I don't exactly know what I'm waiting for. I feel we are on the cusp of the rapture, and all I'm worrying about is getting a new job, a good wife and a nice house. It's hard to find a balance. I guess I was just wondering if anyone else feels the same way and has this sense of anticipation for something massive coming. Guidance in scripture would be nice. I keep taking it to God but I just feel stuck. Hopefully someone can relate and share advice. God bless.

I dunno... I've never seen the point in all that stuff we're supposed to want to get. I'm gonna lose it all anyway.

But yeah, "Wait" is not easy to take. I know about one guy who went on a 21 day fast, looking for direction. At the end of it, the answer was "Wait." That must be frustrating.

I always keep in mind it is His time and not my own. Yet I feel it incumbent upon myself to attempt to maintain myself i readiness for any eventuality concerning the out come, the fulfillment of what is to come. This has been my attitude since I was given to believe His will and that no matter how things may see, His will it perfect. Rest upon your faith always and all will be good for you I believe.

Dear friend these is nothing wrong with "a new job, a good wife and a nice house." Those are all good things; although you may need to work on the "worry" thing a little. No one knows the time or the date of his coming. While we wait, perhaps impatiently, we continue to seek and do his will. He does not want us huddling in a cave, but active and engaged in His creation.

At least that is my opinion.

True, there is nothing wrong with it. If we all avoided it, there would be no next generation. If our ancestors had all avoided it, we wouldn't be talking about it now.

Still, I ain't gonna knock myself out trying to find it. I got stuff to do.

What was Elijah doing before he went before Ahab? What was Abraham or Noah doing before God visited them? What was Moses doing before he saw the burning bush? Joseph? David?
They were all nobodies from nowhere...that is, until God showed up. But during that time of seeming insignificance, God was preparing them for the positions He wanted them to fill.

The same is going on with you. So hang in there. You are in good company.

I think it would be easy to wait upon the Lord if you were able to “discern” that that’s what he wanted you to do.
It always isn’t so clear..

That wouldn't be walking by faith; that is walking by sight. Never be able to please God that way. Neither would it bring you peace; however, by placing it in God's hands and living in a hopeful expectation of what He will do, you will find both peace and joy.

I realize most people take time and changing circumstances to grow in faith. It was true of all those I mentioned. David's faith grew as he slayed a bear and then a lion. By the time he got to Goliath, no problem. Abraham struggled early on, but was eventually able to lift the knife over his son.
Each new trial is carefully crafted by God to reveal in us misconceptions about God that we hold and sin we aren't aware of. All the while, we are becoming more like Christ.
You can sit back and enjoy the ride, or resist. If you resist you better buckle up...it will get very bumpy.

Am praying for you and your family.

Hi @Samuel94,

You're asking great questions and I think every Christian has thought about this.

As time has passed and I've experienced more in life, I often wonder what we as Christians are expecting. I went through an unwanted divorce early in life and wondered if I would ever be able to get over what I saw as a near life-ending setback and go on to "what God called me to do."

I was attending a Pentecostal church that was big into personal prophecy, with people giving me "words of knowledge" such as, "It won't even be 2 years and you're going to get married again;" "God has a great calling on your life;" "God has someone waiting for you, but not here -- to where He's placed your heart" (but I had no idea where that was); and, "In order to raise someone up, God has to call them out of where they are."

Well guess what -- I DID wind up moving away from my home town and state, far, far away -- and as far as I could tell, none of those "words of knowledge" ever happened. Now sure, it could still be in the future. But literal decades have passed, and what I have learned is that I don't think God "calls" or "activates" most Christians the way we seem to think He will -- as if it's going to be someone discovers their "super powers" in a Marvel movie.

I think people are expecting some "Super Calling Moment!" like Moses parting the Red Sea, or David defeating Goliath, or maybe even helping to build an Ark that's going to save the remnant of believers from imminent destruction -- and there are surely still moments like that.

But what I've found for myself is that God "calls" and "activates" me in mundane, everyday ways -- maybe someone needs comforting, or a prayer, or, literally needs a toilet cleaned (this is a true story -- a proud employee felt he was too good for his turn to clean the public restrooms, and he didn't care that the next in line to do so was a pregnant young woman.) My immediate instinct was, "Not on my watch!" and so I just got to work doing so instead. Did I want to have to clean the men's and women's bathrooms? Heck no! But I knew that's what God was calling me to do that day.

I also went through about an 8-year span of writing to and visiting prison inmates -- which was scorned by many I knew -- but to me, it was one of the most valuable spiritual lessons of my life. It's one thing to talk to people who believe they are forgiven by God, it's another thing to talk to those who have committed literal murder and have gone through a much more rigorous process of believing in God's forgiveness than I have ever experienced myself. And one inmate told me it made all the difference that I was choosing to talk and listen on my own time rather than for a paycheck, I knew God had called me to those circumstances. I would still be doing such work if God had not told me to stop for my own safety.

So I might not be experiencing any big, dramatic, calling on a daily basis, but I know that for me, it's in the unexpected, and often most humbling moments of life in which God is "activating" me. I recently got some news no one wants to hear, but I know God is already formulating a plan, telling me, "THIS is what I want you to do -- I want you to clear your schedule and make time. I want you to call and write on a regular basis. I want you to visit when you can even though they are across the country. And, I want you to listen to everything they have to say."

Seeking out a job, spouse, and family could very well be the calling you are seeking. Your "calling" might be "activated" as you and your spouse are praying over the next round of bills for the house that seem to be ever-increasing, the nights you stay up comforting a sick child whose can't stop vomiting, the times when you prayerfully reassure your wife when she's worried about the latest parent-teacher meeting which brought heart-wrenching news.

I could be wrong, but I think one of the greatest things we can do as Christians is to do our best to live out the moments that come along everyday like it's "the big calling we're waiting for." Sure, we might have a "Parting the Red Sea" moment, but even those times don't last -- and if we live for those highs, we'll always just be left looking for "the next big thing" we're called to.

The Bible says that even when we give someone a cup of cold water, God takes it as if we are actually doing the same for Him. In other words, God's great work in us is carried out in the least likely of moments.

I think this is something most Christians are in danger of missing -- we look for the headline moments, thinking God's power must surely be most evident in situations that make the most noise.

But we forget about the God who also appears in a whisper.

And sometimes that gentle whisper is activating us just to simply serve those around us, helping to remind them, and us, that His presence and blessings are still with us, each and every day.

May God bless your heart to see the callings you are fulfilling right in the moment, and to prepare you for the even bigger ones He might have along the way. :)

Thankyou - yes exactly I don't want to be huddling in a cave so to speak, but neither do I want to force anything out of my own will and not Gods. I appreciate your comments :)

Hi @Samuel94,

I'm so glad the posts in this thread have helped. :)

I have no doubt God is already calling and activating you in your everyday life! Just by being here and asking your questions -- many of us have asked the same things -- is evidence that you are being led by God.

For the past week, God has put it on my heart to write a good old-fashioned paper letter to a longtime friend. I've been trying to put 20 minutes aside a day (I haven't been very faithful about it the past few days though,) until it's complete.

It's not glamourous. It's not flashy. It's certainly not as cool as Spiderman discovering his Spidey powers, or Elijah challenging the prophets of Baal (being answered with an almighty fire that left NO doubt in the people's minds at that time.)

But even if it WAS a full-on theatrical event -- every high comes with the next low. Spiderman soon discovered the danger his new identity brought to those he loved. Elijah ran for his life and begged God to take him home out of despair.

We're used to reading about those "Mighty Moments" in the Bible, but I think most of our callings are filled with the ordinary and mundane, and a lot of crying out to God in the midst of our discouragement in between.

Scratching words onto a piece of paper isn't going to impress anyone -- but I like to make it fun. I try to use colorful inks, paper, and envelopes, and choose a stamp that might resonate with the person (they even have Star Wars stamps that I know will make some people I write to smile!)

And I obviously fall and stumble on many days, ignoring what God is calling me to do for another person. But I'm trying to ask for help in getting back up.

Remember how we talked about the fact that God says if we give someone a cup of water in His name, He says we're doing it unto Him? Is there someone around you that you could bring a simple beverage to today?

Maybe that could be a neat way to remind yourself that God is calling and activating you into motion -- every single day. :)

Keep us posted on how you're doing! Blessings to you and I hope to see more of your posts around the forum. :)

my guess is every Christian has been thru what you describe. i have. sometimes, there is no reason & the individual isn't doing anything wrong. could be just the waiting game. know that God's timing is perfect, he knows what's best for you & He does what's best for you. the waiting game may be God's best way for us to develop faith & trust. the OT book of Ecclesiastes explains, partly, the unexplainable. i'm in the antique business & i don't like when nothing is happening, in other words, not finding anything worthy. but blessedly, this year has been my best ever. blessings to you Samuel94. i hope your wait is thru soon!

It's amazing how many times "patience" (or better, perseverance") and "faith" are linked in God's word. Real faith perseveres. Faith will be tested. This is normal. God wants us to know (He knows already) if what we have is real faith or presumption. Faith endures, presumption quits.
