U.S. Further Angers the Russia Bear 09/09/2024
The Russian bear has proven to be toothless, it's soldiers pathetic, it's weapons outdated and vulnerable and it's generals incompetent. Putin has been muttering about red lines since the start of his illegal and immoral invasion of Ukraine. Every red line has been crossed and - nothing. Ukraine is undermanned and ill equipped, apart from mostly obsolescent supplies from the West. Even then, the US and Germany prevent Ukraine from using what they have been given most effectively.

If Russia was anything like as powerful as they pretend to be, Ukraine's military would have been overwhelmed in weeks. All Russia has is nukes, quite a few of which were developed and made by Ukraine when it was part of the USSR.

Russia needs to be stopped. Otherwise, Putin will be emboldened to attack other formerly soviet nations. He has a history of meddling in the affairs of independent nations. WW2 was entirely the result of Europe's appeasement policies. Is Europe about to make the same mistake? If so, America had better get out of NATO. Otherwise, it will be American blood, not just American weapons, that will be expended on the battlefields of Europe.

Sure. Easy to say for someone who is in Australia.

Putin emptied his prison and used all the armaments that were ready to be mothballed.

But I do thank you for sharing your opinion. When this attack does come I expect people who advised everyone to ignore the threats will be remembered.

Putin's weapons have increasingly been taken out of mothballed weapons, especially armoured vehicles. I've seen video of the trains of tanks. They are T64 and T62, because T72/80/90 have been destroyed already. There are a few modern tanks being built, but nowhere near enough to replace the losses.

If Putin gets Ukraine (and he will settle for no less than complete control), he will have control of Ukraine's technical abilities and natural resources. Putin will be able to rebuild his armies. If this is allowed to happen, the world will indeed be under threat.

I was born in 1951. Some rationing was still in force in the UK and there was still much destruction in the main cities. The USSR was a far more formidable enemy then than it is now. So the then bankrupt UK spent vast amounts on its military. Now the western world is morally bankrupt. The way the west has treated Ukraine is shameful. It's like Europe in the 1930's. Wishful thinking and appeasement did not stop Hitler. It won't stop Putin either.

WW2 claimed the lives of around 75 million people. That did not need to happen. Putin should have been stopped in 2014. Now the innocent on both sides of the border are paying for Putin's ambition and the West's lack of backbone. It can be reversed. That's my hope and prayer.

Putin is not a threat to the world, or even to Western Europe. Certainly not to the USA. His focus is on reclaiming all the satellites which were a part of the Soviet Union. He wants a "revived Russian empire". And if Putin annexes Ukraine totally, the fault lies with Ukraine, which had eight years after Crimea to establish its defenses, but did nothing.

This is just like the USA today. China could walk right in with millions of soldiers (as an occupying force) without firing a shot. Corrupt American politicians opened the door wide for China to take over any time it feels like. British Columbia in Canada has allowed another Hong Kong to be established in Richmond, BC. Politicians have been simply bought out by the clever Chinese.

Ukranian politicians were foolish enough to believe the promises made by Putin and America. Ukraine gave up much of its weaponry, selling it back to Russia to pay its debts. It's easy to say Ukraine should have rearmed. Ukraine was dirt poor after independence. Perhaps NATO should have helped Ukraine instead of throwing her to the Russian wolves.

The Chinese are way smarter than Putin. Occupying America is pointless to them. They prefer to take over SE Asia and Taiwan. Japan and Korea need to develop nuclear weapons immediately. It's no big deal for technologically advanced nations as they are.

Personally, I believe Iran and it's proxies are a greater threat to world peace than China or Russia. Iran is driven by a murderous and destructive Muslim minority who hold the reins of power. There is a belief among Iranian Muslims that Israel must be destroyed before their version of the messiah can come. It's a more powerful motivation than greed or a lust for power. The western world has been flooded with Muslim "refugees". If they allow themselves to be radicalised (in other words, normal Muslims), we will all be sorry. I may not live to see it. We will see.

ALLOWING UKRAINE TO USE LONG-RANGE MISSILES SUPPLIED BY THE WEST "MEANS NATO IS AT WAR WITH RUSSIA"
That has been the plan all along. But Putin could end this by lobbing missiles on NATO headquarters and Washington. D.C. He has threatened to do so.

Putin has drawn so many red lines that Bic has run of of red pens. It's bluff and bluster because Putin knows that Russia would be destroyed if Putin uses nukes. Even China has warned him against it.

It is foolish to not take him seriously. If you take it seriously and he doesn't nuke us, what have you lost? On the other hand if you don't and he does, how stupid is that.

This was the reason Japan wasn't defeated at Pearl Harbor. Our radar operator saw their planes coming with enough warning to get the ships out of the docks and to get all the planes off the runway. If he had sounded the alarm Japan would have lost their entire airforce of bombers because they didn't have enough fuel for dog fights. Without air support the aircraft carriers would have been easy targets as they fled back to Japan with their tail between their legs.

You are absolutely right. NATO has now become an existential threat to Russia. And Putin is savvy enough to go for a preemptive strike on NATO. He has also promised to nuke Washington, D.C, and many other Western capitals. So now is the time for NATO to back off, and the West to cease and desist from all further hostile actions against Russia. Ukraine's aggression must be stopped immediately, But do you think any of these Western idiots will wake up? China has promised to help Russia in the event that the West does not back off.

The only way they can attack the US is if it is a knockout blow. It will have to take out the power grid for the entire country and it would need to be similar to 911 only ten times worse, perhaps a 911 for ten different major cities. But I think they'll also use that Poseidon torpedo to wipe out the coastlines.

But you have to have something to justify such an attack otherwise the rest of the world will realize they need to get rid of them.

Now Russia, Iran, N. Korea and Venezuela all hate the US enough to do this, and it would help them because Iran can't take Israel if the US is backing them and without the US NATO won't be able to stand against Russia. But there has to be something big enough to justify such an attack that would destroy the US for 360 million.

Putin has proven over and over again that he is all talk. The reality is that Russia is nothing like as powerful as Putin imagines. Corruption has rotted their military from the inside. The proof is simple. A much smaller and ill equipped army has held Russia at bay since Putin declared war.

Russia is not Japan in WW2. Neither is it as strong as Nazi Germany became prior to WW2 (comparatively speaking). One thing that Russia and the Nazi regime have in common is propaganda. The world seems to delight in believing lies (as demonstrated by the UN resolution against Israel). Russia will be bombed back to the stone age if they use nukes. Putin is evil but not stupid. He knows how far he can go and he knows how to manipulate weak politicians.

I understand you feel that way, but what I don't understand is why you feel you need to convince everyone else that Putin is threatening to ignore his threats. I don't care what you do, so why do you care what we in the US do?

BREAKING NEWS: ISRAEL LAUNCHES MASSIVE AIR STRIKES INTO SOUTHERN LEBANON AGAINST HEZBOLLAH ROCKETS

This is amazing. The attack on cell phones and pagers is much bigger and more far reaching. They are going after a wide array of communication infrastructure and power structure. People in Lebanon are so scared they are destroying their own phones and anything with a lithium battery. That is chaotic, but it is much worse than that. This is not an incremental escalation, this is full out war. They have hit Lebanon in such a way as to cause complete chaos and in the midst of chaos they came in guns blazing. Apparently they have three days left of iron dome weapons, so they have to hit them hard now to take out any missile firing capability.

I care about the people of the nations that are under threat from autocrats that are arising in many countries. If they get unlimited power, the first to suffer are Christians. Ask the church in China and North Korea.

America has been promoting itself as the defender of the free world pretty much since the end of WW2. Europe certainly needs to do much more to defend itself. However, it is America that has done its best to limit membership to the nuclear armed club. They bullied South Korea and South Africa into shutting down its nuclear weapons programs. Ukraine gave up its nukes because of USA's security guarantees.

America is morally obliged to help Ukraine. Hand wringing timidity will not impress Putin. The threat of overwhelming force will. America still has that force, although I'm not sure that will be the case for much longer.

So Australia is not morally obliged? Interesting perspective from someone who is Australian. Why isn't NATO the one that is obliged?

Also, since when is objecting to unrighteousness "hand wringing timidity". If you feel that strongly about it why not volunteer to go to Ukraine and help them out. I hear they are conscripting men in their sixties and would probably take volunteers of any age.

I'm 73, have typical health issues for a man my age and undoubtedly would be rejected by Ukraine's military. Ukraine learned early on that some volunteers are worse than a man short. They were given weapons that they can't use and needed training that Ukraine is too busy to give. It's also illegal for me to fight in Ukraine under Australian law.

Australia has supported the USA whenever asked, including wars that were none of our business. We supported America in Korea and Vietnam. We went to Iraq twice. We supported the disaster of Afghanistan.

We are patrolling in middle east waters. In case you don't know, the NA bit means North Atlantic. We are, contrary to FE beliefs, in the southern hemisphere. We are members of the AUKUS alliance.

NATO should get involved. Legalistically NATO is not obliged. Practically, they should. Putin would never have started this war if he faced an equivalent force. Bullies are like that.
