In 1 Corinthians where Paul talks of how women should cover their heads during worship, men are instructed not to. For reasons he gives in detail.

Yet it seems nowadays this custom is not generally followed in Christian churches.. Obviously modern thought has influenced rules.
It is interesting to note that in other religions, women cover up a lot, certainly their heads. It could be said it is a matter of modesty and respect.

I personally am happy that when travelling to other countries or attending friend's weddings and so on, I certainly do as all the other women do in that particular culture. I do have good friends of other religions and show appropriate respect.

I would be quite happy to do so at our church too but I would be out of place because nobody else does.

The point I am making is - does anyone here think it is unfair to ask Christian women to cover their heads, is it diminishing to women?

In New Testament times, a woman not having her head covered indicated that she available for carnal pleasure. Paul encouraged the women in Corinth to not miss use their new found liberty in Christ being uncovered, rather to be covered so not to cause offense.
In short, head covering was a New Testament practice that has no bearing for women today.

I can understand the aspect it had bearing on the culture of the times.

I wear a hat whether others do or not. Nothing fancy. That would be out of place.

Yes. Something like that would not be out of place.

Not at all, I love the colour of the first one especially! Lol!

Seriously, I think it's a pity hat wearing or head covering in Christian churches is no longer so. Except women do wear hats for weddings, often for funerals and baptisms.

Other cultures consider it important every time. You won't see Muslim or Sikh women with bare heads in their places of worship.

You'll still find some Pentecostal women still wearing head coverings. My mom, for instance, has worn Pashmina scarves for years.

That part was talking about hair, specifically uncut hair, not hats.

And who is requiring what of anyone? It's up to every person to determine what he will follow.
