Hi all,
I’m a Christian and got asked a question. Do I have the Holy Spirit? My answer was “yes,” the next question was do I speak in tongues?

Mark 16:16-18

16 Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. 17 And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues;18 they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”

Is speaking in tongues is speaking in different languages like during Pentecost?

Speaking in tongues is only one of a number of gifts given, and not everyone gets all the same gifts.

We have different gifts according to the grace given us. If one’s gift is prophecy, let him use it in
proportion to his faith; if it is serving, let him serve; if it is teaching, let him teach; if it is encouraging,
let him encourage; if it is giving, let him give generously; if it is leading, let him lead with diligence;

if it is showing mercy, let him do it cheerfully. <= from Romans 12

I wish that all men were as I am. But each man has his own gift from God; one has this gift, another has that.
1 Corinthians 7:7

There are different gifts, but the same Spirit. There are different ministries, but the same Lord. There are
different ways of working, but the same God works all things in all people. <= from 1 Corinthians 12:4-6

I agree with that, but scripture still say those who believe will speak in tongues.

So go drink poison and handle deadly snakes. Perhaps I'll see you on the other side...

PS ~ agreeing but disagreeing is contradictory. See 1 Corinthians 12:30. And these:

1 Corinthians 12:9
to another faith by the same Spirit, to another gifts of healing by that one Spirit,

1 Corinthians 12:10
to another the working of miracles, to another prophecy, to another distinguishing between spirits, to another speaking in various tongues, and to still another the interpretation of tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:28
And in the church God has appointed first of all apostles, second prophets, third teachers, then workers of miracles, and those with gifts of healing, helping, administration, and various tongues.

1 Corinthians 12:29
Are all apostles? Are all prophets? Are all teachers? Do all work miracles?
