Yep, that tends to happen during pandemics.

That's why it's important to make sure wages match up with the cost of living.
Actually, I'm all for that.

Way back in the day the husband went to work, and the mother stayed home to take care of the family. Enough money was earned by the husband to make ends meet. Now, in a lot of marriages, the husband and wife must both work. This is especially hard if there are children, now you have to pay day care, or the spouses work different shifts to watch the kids while the other one works. Even with two people working it is often not enough.

Especially hard now with rampant inflation. Even if inflation rate was reduced to zero it would not make up for the 20 - 30 % of reduced purchasing power that occurred over the last 3 years. Maybe ask the employer for a raise and hopes that you aren't escorted off the property.

Glad we agree! :)

Yep, that's how it was when my parents married and started our family. My dad got a job with a large trucking/shipping firm within a couple of years of graduating high school, worked there for 35 years, supported our family and all, and retired with a nice pension.

We definitely need to get back to those days, and somehow I doubt billionaires and mega corporations are going to do it for us.

Very true. Some employers only see workers as necessary costs that need to be minimized.

Based on my extensive experience and observations in the work place I've come to the conclusion that most employers consider the employees to be a liability instead of an asset and that everyone is expendable.

Yep. I've actually had people from "leadership" where I worked tell everyone in a staff meeting that we were all easily replaceable. One employee, after hearing that, paused for second and asked the leader "Isn't that true of you as well?"

He actually said no and that leaders are irreplaceable.

Actually, leaders are expendable too, especially those in the lower ranks.

Money will flee like there is no tomorrow.

Submitted by QTR's Fringe Finance

On Tuesday, it was announced that Presidential candidate Kamala Harris would be supporting President Joe Biden’s tax proposals for 2025, which include a 44.6% capital gains rate and a 25% tax on unrealized gains.

Having used up all of the rest of the batshit, insane, counterintuitive economic dirty tricks left in the "we'll literally do anything but cut spending" bag, the Biden administration began pushing this tax idea in April 2024 when I first wrote about it. Unrealized gains taxation could be the most destructive idea for our country since prohibition, I joked at the time.

As part of its budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year, the Biden administration was trying to raise an addition $4.3 trillion over 10 years in the worst way possible: imposing a minimum tax equal to 25 percent of a taxpayer’s taxable income and unrealized capital gains less the sum of their regular tax, for taxpayers with wealth over $100 million.

Which perfectly describes the government. In the workplace, we can quit and go to another employer. If the government is in control..............Good luck.

Are you saying this story is not true? Sources?
Hey @ZNP

Rabbit holes aren't my thing. But I notice that the DNC is getting some pretty good reviews. Happy, friendly, smiling people. Not a lot of the anger and angst heard in the RNC.

God bless and vote wisely,
Ted
