Jesus himself said everything else hangs on those. In other words if you follow those, you will follow all the rest of the law by extrapolation.
I believe that when we come to Yeshua in spirit and truth, the commandments are taken off of stone and inscribed upon the fleshy tablet of our heart. This has gien each of us the wisdom to know them and just how they are to be followed.
Actually, I truly believe that if we obey the law of loving our Father, all of the rest of the law is natural to each of us. I know I love the people here, but it seems many cannot understand many. I suppose it is to be this way until our Savior returns and makes the final touch making each of us perfect and holy as is written, molded in His Image. Praise God, amen.

I should come clean and see if you agree with me. I assume God's Sovereign LAW is the RIGHTS God gave us before Adam's creation. God gave us the RIGHT, which is God's Sovereign LAW, of doing anything, saying anything, thinking anything, and owning anything as long as those RIGHTS do not violate the RIGHTS of another.

That kind of thought triggers alarms in my mind when it is posed.
See, when I have heard people pose that thought, they almost always continue on to posit we should be allowed to do, say, think and own things that are either illegal or generally considered immoral.
Do you have something in particular in mind? Something you want to talk about that you think we should be allowed to do, say, think and/or own?
I agree in part. God's law, His natural law, precedes Adam. The bible says His law is evident in His creation. But any "Rights" God bestows are within the parameters of His law. Our freedom under the law is not restricted only by the rights of others. It is established by the Almighty Himself. Just an example, if I worship a false God I have not violated the rights of anyone else, but I have violated God's law.
I hope I have not misinterpreted any part of your post, I apologize if I did. (And it was thought provoking-Thanks for posting)
What do you see as the significant distinction between "law" and "commandments"?
In Deuteronomy 5:31-33, Moses wrote down everything that God commanded without depart from it, so the Law of is the Law of God, which is why it spoken about as being the Law of God in verses like Nehemiah 8:1-8, Ezra 7:6-12, and Luke 2:22-23.
God's LAW is our God given RIGHTS. Ordinances, codecs, rules, etcetera are man-made not God given LAW/RIGHTS. Man-made rules are created to punish those that violate God's LAW, our RIGHTS. A commandment is very similar but very specific. Do not murder, do not steal, do not covet your neighbors wife, etcetera. If you follow God's LAW you need no commandments.
I love your response. It does give me a different perspective on God's LAW for myself. I was focused more on the public servants who write ordinances to steal from those that do not violate a God given RIGHT.
I think to best answer your ? I'd have to say that morality can't be defined by men. Once one knows that God given RIGHTS allow you to do, say, think, and own anything and if those RIGHTS exercised willfully interfere with other's RIGHTS then that is the GOLDEN RULE on steroids.
You'd have to elaborate on why that triggers alarms. To fully understand God's LAW, one must fully know our God given RIGHTS that are inalienanble. The 2 greatest commandments are the foundation of God's LAW. We are to follow the ordinances of men as long as they do not contradict the LAW of God. I.E. writing an ordinance that they can force you to pay them to live in your house or move in public.
Taxes must be voluntary or it is EXTORTION.
The 2 greatest commandments are the backbone of His LAW. No man can write a "law", ordinance, or commandment that violates God's LAW, our God given RIGHTS. Equating God's LAW, our RIGHTS with commandments is the difference of respecting your neighbors God given RIGHTS versus telling them to not covet your spouse.
With respect, those are His 2 greatest commandments. God's LAW like the trinity needs to be logically extrapolated from His divine words and the Holy Spirit. I do not mean any insult or disrespect with my responses. And howdy and thank you!
A sincere thanks to everyone's respectful responses. I think the forefathers acknowledged God's LAW, our RIGHTS bestowed upon us that are inalienable, and the 2 greatest commandments are the Constitution of the United States of America. The ordinances of man have become the "law" of the land instead of God's LAW, our inalienable RIGHTS, that can't be created or taken away by public servants.
A lot of times "You should be able to do what you want as long as it doesn't hurt anybody else" is part of the argument people use when they are trying to legalize marijuana. Or justify sex outside of marriage. Or just about anything else they have been told they should not do.
So I was automatically both curious and wary about what you think we should be able to do.
With your response in mind, you are correct in that God commands us to not have gay sex, do harm to the temples He gave us, etcetera, but each human has to overcome the evil that they don't want to do. We have to point to God's LAW and the 2 great commandments and let them come to know the Creator and His bestowed RIGHTS to truly know His LOVE.
I'd say the commandments are a subset of His LAW. He commands us to not steal, this is a subset of the LAW that we have a RIGHT to own. The God given LAW is the God given RIGHTS He bestows upon us before we were conceived. The LAW and commandments are a 2 sided coin. I just put the emphasis on the RIGHTS as then you don't need all of the commandments spelled out.
One can't truly know God until one fully knows His LAW.
