I don't if anyone here listens to or are familiar with The Nelons. They have been a southern gospel group for many years. There was a tragic plane crash yesterday where Kelly, her husband and daughter were all killed. One daughter didn't take the plane and is ok. The Nelons are a legendary group and have been a well loved family group down through the years from the time her father use to be in the group. This is heartbreaking not only to the family but also to the southern gospel family whom they have performed with down through the years. Please keep their families upheld in prayer.

Four others also were killed in the crash -- Amber's husband, Nathan Kistler, the Kistlers'
assistant Melodi Hodges, and the pilot and his wife, Larry and Melissa Haynie.

Yes, thank you for adding that. I have listened to them for so many years. Just a real tragedy. I didn't know them personally but I know many who did and I know their lives touched so many others. Here today and gone tomorrow. I always pray for my family when they leave on a trip, we lay hands on them. It's hard enough losing one person, but to lose so many at once, may God heal their broken hearts and comfort them.

Oh my, pieces of this tragedy are coming to me from friends now. The daughter that didn't travel on the plane went with her husband a different way. They were headed to a Gaither event, a cruise in Alaska. Many of you may have or have heard of the Gaither videos. Well it seems the daughter is pregnant. So please pray the loss of family won't cause her to lose the baby. That is so hard, I feel so heartbroken for them.

!!!

I have a bunch of their albums, including their first live album after they changed their name from lefevres.

"Many folks have asked me, Rex why would you take a well-known gospel group like the lefevres and change the name? Well it's simple really. We ran out of lefevres."

I consider many of the songs they have done to be the definitive versions of those songs, including "we shall wear a robe and crown" and "ain't no grave."

So sorry to hear about this.

I don't know if you have ever attended the National Quartet Convention, but I always enjoyed hearing them there. The southern gospel family is close knit. It sounds like Bill Gaither actually broke the news to Autumn the remaining daughter as they were all headed to a Gaither singing. I can't imagine how hard it would be to tell someone that news. With all the travel that these groups do, it's surprising there aren't more instances like this. Just very sad.

One of the things I really liked about the Rex Nelon Singers was how happy they sounded.

Even their slow songs sounded happy.

I didn't realize Janet Pascal had sung with them. Thanks for sharing.

She did?

I have a couple or three of her albums too, but I didn't notice her voice. All I know is they sounded happy.

I don't even know the names of any of the members except Rex. But I have enough of their albums to last almost a whole w*rk day playing.

Yes, they seemed that way in person seeing them too. Several groups made me feel that way too. Of course the Goodmans had it in their name, the Happy Goodmans. I was going to the Quartet Convention when some of these wonderful folk were still alive. My mother went to Vestal Goodmans booth. She almost got to the point in the line to meet her when they came to wheel her away, she couldn't stand long. My mother called to her and said she had come from Canada to meet her. She said Vestal said " Well bless your heart darlin'" and tossed her handkerchief to Mom. We framed it for her and she has it on the wall and has told that story to every one that visits. lol But I just love southern gospel music. I grew up on it. I will listen to others, I love music. But something about southern gospel just brings me closer to God.
