Grab Your Favorite Bear Suit and Come Along as The Singles Forum Plans a Camping Trip!

The "bear suit" is a reference to another thread we had here recently, as the question "Man or Bear" was trending on social media:

Now that you've chosen your favorite bear suit (or any other animal get-up -- we won't judge!) get ready to pitch a tent and share some input on ideas for A Single's Forum Camping Trip!

1. What is your idea of camping? An old-fashioned tent? A camping van or vehicle? Or, if you're like me, a comfy modern "lodge" -- that just happens to be made to LOOK like it belongs in the great outdoors?! Tell us what YOU would choose from the pictures below (or share your own preferences.)

2. What do you consider essential gear and accessories to take on a camping trip? Do you like to cook on an open fire (and do you catch your own food,) or do you need the availability of a convenient eatery down the road?

3. What are your preferred essentials when it comes to a camping site? Can you camp just anywhere? Are you ok with roughing it, or do you require electric, plumbing, and water? Do you prefer to "be one with nature" when it comes to answering its call -- and taking showers, or do you require modern facilities?








4. And, the most important question of all: if someone in your living space snores and keeps everyone awake, do you grin and "bear" it, just wear earplugs, or kick/him/her out of the tent/camper/room?!




I'm looking forward to seeing to some starter ideas about what people like/dislike regarding a camping trip... If people seem to like this, we can follow Yogi Bear further down the trail in other threads!

But for now, I'm just curious as to what kind of shelter, facilities, and food people are thinking of when they plan to go camping.

Shoot, I don't even want a CAMPGROUND shower. I want a personal shower.

Motel is about as far as I go to roughing it. And I'mma bring my phone's internet connection, just in case their wifi is down.

My game plan is to get a van and set it up for camping. What I'm thinking is more commonly referred to as "Glamping".. What I mean by that is having the van set up for solar and battery systems. With that, you can get a battery powered fridge/freezer combination. It would also have everything else I think I would need, bed, propane stove, storage area for water, groceries, clothes, axe, saw, small shovel. There are options for " answering the call"..

I probably wouldn't venture out into wilderness camping. Having a campground with public facilities will do for me.

I think I covered everything. 🤔

I don't think I would be able to get up if ever I slept on the ground again!

I went camping overnight next to the biggest.lake in WV. Spent the night in a comfortable hammock. Unfortunately, I couldn't sleep any more than I can now. I'm turning to humor to help .

When I was young I used to go backpacking in the Sierra Nevada for a week or two at a time. I'd sleep under the stars unless it looked like it was gonna rain. Then later I lived in the middle of a forest in interior Alaska. Now, for me camping is parking myself in a McDonalds booth for an hour in the morning while I eat breakfast.

Yup. See you tomorrow, same time, same seat.

I'm about as far removed from "roughing it" as you can get. I am just not built for the "great" outdoors.

My skin doesn't get "sunkissed" -- it gets fried, like an egg on a hot sidewalk -- and ALL biting insects, even indoors, will find me -- and not bother anyone else. I came home from one trip to a different area with golf-ball sized welts, even though the trip was all indoors (and on a bus.)

Yet for some reason, I have always been fascinated by the idea of camping and "getting in tune with nature." I guess it's kind of like how we're fascinated by a lot of things in life but would never actually want to participate in them.

The closest I've come to camping was sleeping in a tent next to an RV on a campground with basic facilities; I've also spent the weekend in a small camper but also on a campground, so a real toilet and showers were only a short walk away. I'm just not someone who wants to think about which tree I'm going to hide behind or taking a shovel every time I have to go (not to mention the consequences if I happen to encounter the wrong type of vegetation when exposed.)

But yet, I can't stop watching YouTube videos about van and RV life, and my parents and I even attended an RV show a while back (which was my idea.) They had everything from basic campers to full rigs the size of a Greyhound bus that cost half a million dollars. I felt bad for the poor sales people -- we had no intention of buying, we just love looking at living spaces -- and I think what intrigues me most are the innovations they have to come up with for such small living spaces that also have to stay fully mobile.

One of my dreams is to experience very unique kinds of housing someday through mediums like AirB'n'B -- and number one on my list would be a treehouse with modern facilities -- or at least with access to them. I've seen entire treehouse villages with wooden walkways from tree to tree... How cool would that be to stay in a place like that!!

Forget being a Tree Hugger, I would spend all day being a Tree Hopper, moving from tree to tree.

Shoot, forget the bear suit -- maybe I'm secretly an Ewok at heart:








And the best part would be to round up a whole bunch of like-minded folks to go with me!

(Lightsabers and Jedi robes would be optional.)

Don't round me up for that trip. I'm too much of a square.

All I can think about on a camping trip is all the poison ivy that might be anywhere around...

Yet another reason why I love modern conveniences.



Bonus points for having built-in lights!

What? No stereo speakers?

I hear the NUMI toilet has stereo speakers, lights, opens and closes automatically, plays a short tune when it opens and closes, and sprays water on your butt.

Yeah, a few lights in the seat are not impressive.
