Hey Everyone,

This is a spinoff thread of Lynx's popular "Would You Ever Eat...?" thread. :)

Instead of asking Would You Ever Eat (name the food,) this thread is asking, Would You Ever (name the action!)

Examples might include:

* Would you ever... Go skydiving?

* Would you ever... Go for a week without your phone?

* Would you ever... Trust an alligator with your password? (Cough, @Susanna, cough.)

Go ahead and use these examples if you'd like, because I'm going to start off with a different question.

So just like in Lynx's thread, I'll start out by asking a question -- the next person answers a question asked in the thread (it can be any of the questions that interest you -- no concerns about continuity here!), and then end your post with a question of their own. :)

I'll go ahead and start with:

* Would You Ever?

* Show up for a first date -- right after eating Chicken With 40 Cloves of Garlic?? (I didn't realize that this was an actual established entree! I just thought is was a random name for a generic chicken dish.)

Well I mean... Garlic comes out on the skin, so no matter how much you brush your teeth (and tongue) you're still gonna reek after that.

There was this one elderly couple who used to ride the church bus. They took garlic pills and we would have to let the bus air out after a trip.

So... Nope. I wouldn't deliberately do that.


Would you ever run for office? Any office - mayor, governor, state senator, whatever.

Sure! Maybe I could get elected dog catcher. Think I’m gonna launch my campaign for that office, or rather truck, any day now.

I wouldn't even go regular skiing, much less rain donkey skiing. Sounds dangerous.

Would you drive 200 miles to see a boyfriend/girlfriend every week? Twice a month? Once a quarter?

Well sure I'd be happy to share a skillet of garlicy chicken for a first date. Heck that's the kind of offer that might get me to show up just for the food.

In the right circumstances I would welcome going for a week without my phone. Those circumstances include having a landline available for calls, nothing I feel the need to minitor back home, etc.

And while the idea of running for office has some appeal, practically I wouldn't know how or have that kind of money. And then if you win you have to deal with piles of paperwork and lots of petty people who just want to complain or work the system.

When I was younger, I would have been crazy enough to try to drive to see a guy I was that crazy about. But my sense of responsibility always took over, and I knew I had to at least not get fired from any of my jobs or flunk out of school.

Twice a month, yeah, I would try -- and once a quarter, most definitely.

But, it would have to be a task we take on together -- he would have to make the effort to drive out half the time to see me.

Great question!

I would most definitely pet a tiger!

In a controlled environment, of course.

I once went to Gatorland in FL and volunteered for their reptile show... I became one of 4 people standing in a line, all of us holding up a quarter of an albino Burmese python.

I wound up holding the 1/4 that was the tail... I actually wish I would have landed the front of the snake instead of the back. I've just always found exotic animals (especially reptiles) to be super interesting.

Would you ever try to work at two competing businesses at once? (For good reasons -- let's say one offers amazing pay and the other offers part-time benefits.)

I have a dog. I have no need to pet a tiger and the tiger certainly has other people willing to pet it.

I have heard of people holding down one job solely for the health insurance though. If it was at a business that competed with the other company hiring you, I don't know...

seoulsearch's last question reminds me of a side plot in a video game. Two competing coffee brands keep sending you on missions to sabotage each other. Near the end of the game you find out they are both owned by the same company.

And this thread reminds me of a comedian who was talking about when she was a teenager, going to slumber parties where they would play a game called Never Have I Ever. Each girl would take a turn saying never have I ever done this or that, and every girl would indicate whether they have done this or that. I'm still not sure whether the winner was the girl who did the most of them or the least of them.

Some girls would get catty and use the game to call other girls out on stuff, and some of the never have I ever got very, very specific. "Never have I ever slept with three guys on the football team..." "Never have I ever got so drunk at Jim's party that I woke up in Peter's car the next morning."

The thing that made me think of it is that I worked at McDonald's as a teen -- with a Burger King right across the street.

Naturally, it's hard to make it just on a part-time job at these restaurants and McDonald's wouldn't give some people full-time or more hours, yet they also said that if these people got another part-time job at Burger King, they would be fired (I guess they cited conflict of interest?) o_O

It was kind of nutty to me at the time.

I've had co-workers complain about me and garlic before. I have cut back considerably!

Man this is such a good, but tough question.

I think it would depend on where I felt God was leading me and what their history of.

I knew someone in my hometown whose alcoholism took over his life, to the point where he stopped even trying to hold a job. From what I hear, he's been through rehab 3 times -- and it's never done any good.

In this kind of case, I would strongly lead towards no, I wouldn't do it, unless God strictly told me otherwise.

I worked at Burger King and Dairy Queen at same time. I smelled like flame broiled most evenings :)

This was mean of me but I believed in God and many co-workers as teenagers gave me a hard time with my Grandpa and Dad being ministers. And as a typical pk I did silly things like I made a sign at both places on the [drive-thru] speaker that said having hard time hearing so scream as loud as you can when placing your order. One person had a headache for a week after that. That was one less person giving me baloney about being a Jesus freak :cool:

I can just see your dates asking you what cologne you're wearing, and it's like, "Eau De Flam(ay)." :D

Kudos to you for the work ethic! Yeah, the reason I thought the BK/MCD rule was crazy was because it was like, "Wow, as if surviving on fast food pay isn't hard enough, now you're punishing people who actually want to work!"

I LOVED the story about getting back at people picking on you. When I was first here on CC, they used to have live chat rooms and I was very excited, because I loved coming here and listening in on people. I mentioned it to a co-worker and he was like, "Ok now, you go home and enjoy your online church potluck! How exciting!" Because it was a Friday night and I was fired up about going home to an online Christian Chat. :ROFL:

My Dad actually became an ordained minister (but he specifically counsels people who are trying to get out of debt) when I was well into adulthood. He had thought about becoming a pastor as young adult but God led him elsewhere.

I always tell my Dad thanks for waiting until I was long grown -- I just know I would have made the worst pastor's kid ever! :cool:
