Why do people get so defensive when you ask questions.
Depends on the question, and how it was asked.

Some people use questions to deliberately challenge what other people believe. Sometimes when you ask a question people assume from your manner that you are deliberately challenging what they believe... Even if that was not your intent at all.

There's a lot of context here. I would have to see it in action, and probably ask some questions, to determine why a given person was getting so defensive.

Oh, it was a question you asked on the forum?

That makes it much more variable. When you can't hear tone of voice there are 17,000 different ways you can read a question. No telling how somebody interpreted it.

People are triggered bc they don't have the understanding, but think they do or feel they should have it.

My parents often did this with Science when growing up bc they felt it was contradictory toward Christianity. They would dismiss the entire theory... even if the theory could align with the Bible.

When I first started teaching I didn't like students asking tough questions bc I didn't understand it fully and felt I should. Or bc the answer would be too long and take away from the current subject. Both were a lack of understanding bc Plato could make things complex very simple to understand.

Now that I'm in my late 30s and have been teaching for 13 years, plus parenting between then I'm very comfortable with most parts of it at this point. Even kids throwing desks... honestly doesn't throw me. 🤣 I've been through it all. And those pesky questions I don't know....I can at least point them to the direction to find the answer. I look up things and have the kids watch to teach them how to find answers.

Why do people get so defensive when you ask questions.
Because they're carnal Christians, still hanging on to their ego instead of answering with the love of God.
'Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never ends. As for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for knowledge, it will pass away', 1 Cor 13:4-8.
It seems w/o the love of God, one may not know Him that well or who He is(Love). Our duty is to be patient and wise🙏, lol.

I'm still curious what the initial question was, what reaction it provoked and whether the reaction was objectively justified.

I think it comes from the internet. The anonymity allows people to be their worst selves and it has created a culture where people get angry and mean online. There is an expectation of hostility. So when someone asks a question people immediately take it as hostile and react hostile in return. I was on a comment thread asking genuine questions about abortion and people kept getting mad at me even though I was just trying to understand their point of view. Genuinely. And the more controversial the topic the more people bring out their big guns. Most people don’t come online to ask and learn unfortunately, so people assume it’s hostile.

oakey dokey lol

It wasn't a complaint as such it was more of a subjective comment lol.

It was asked mainly on the idea to start a discussion based on feeling and opinion, and maybe have a chuckle or two. To

I have a feeling its mostly to do with taming the tongue. Not in a way you would imagine but taming the tongue as in appreciating the tongue needs to be able to taste divinely, and without it being able to taste divinely it goes crazy

You knows the tongue is beautiful really, I mean it really does feel the taste buds, in such a way that when you hold on to your tongue, you can just know you know, i mean just position your tongue and feel your tongue on your lips, you know without speaking for oh I don't know five minutes, and just imagine what it would be like to speak something nice, whilst tasting you taste buds,

But as Saying goes well you are what you eat, so I would imagine that what you import into your body also determines how well or taste buds taste, and how well your tongue can pick up under taste if you know what I mean .

I mean if you only put in what is most agreeable to the body then I would imagine your inner taste can become quite divine really, you know I mean I think the hard thing is people discovering what is desirable to their bodies over time I would imagine.

Then I suppose once you get the balance right you know, you can really taste this and feel the difference 😊

I think its partly just by nature - we're designed to have certain reserved feelings about the unknown. But it could also regard a specific approach, and how that is handled. One thing the Bible does says about us as Christians, is that in mimicking Jesus we should be graceful whenever possible. But we can't deny absolute truth, and some people will have a very regative response to that no matter our intention. But that's their responsibility, not ours.
