As I often say, we are Christian Brothers and Sisters in Christ . . . let us Love each other as we discuss our Beloved Bible.

1 Timothy 2:15 NLT - "But women will be saved through childbearing, assuming they continue to live in faith, love, holiness, and modesty."

I am studying 1 Timothy for the day and am wondering what you scholars think about the above passage. I've searched for Biblical answers that would explain this mysterious passage, but haven't found any.

It is not really muysterious. Obviously this is not speaking about justification by grace through faith, but about sanctification in daily life. "Saved" here means "deliverance" from the flesh and walking in the Spirit. There is no selfishness in child-bearing and child-rearing.

Child-bearing means child-rearing, not taking off to serve the corporate world. Child-rearing includes giving children insight into spiritual matters and teaching them about Christ and what He has done for them. It also includes Bible verse memorization, Bible reading, prayer, and encouraging children to attend church.

Plus a woman with a husband and family will be too busy serving the family, preparing meals etc, and that will prevent her from being distracted by other things. This is all a part of the sanctification of women. Faith, love, holiness, and modesty are all a part of this.

The relevant word here is "saved". It's a word that has become "christianese" for going to heaven when you die. But it also has the meaning of being delivered. Giving birth was highly risky in most of history. Many women die in childbirth even in this day and age. My understanding is that women were promised nothing to fear from giving birth if they lived in faith and love etc.

you can say men will be saved through childbearing also. You can say without women mankind could not be saved.

Well, that may be true, Billy! But, this still won't help us understand how someone is saved through something other than Christ. :)

By golly, I see what you're saying. So, the Scripture could be paraphrased by saying, that all women (and men) will be saved through the childbirth of the Son.

Is that what you mean?

Wooop . . . continuing into 1 Timothy, I JUST came across the following passage:

1 Timothy 2:5 NLT - "For there is only one God and one Mediator who can reconcile God and humanity--the man Christ Jesus."

And this is what I mean . . . Salvation comes by the one who fulfills the Davidic Covenant.

So far, Evmur's explanation is the best fit.

We have to add sobriety to the list of expectations! lol

1 Timothy 2:15 KJV - "Notwithstanding she shall be saved in childbearing, if they continue in faith and charity and holiness with sobriety."
