Caught
Dragged on the tile of the temple floor,
My life was ending, soon to be no more.
Thrust forward into the furious crowd,
Their harsh words, violent and loud.
My tears burned the scratches on my face,
My heart was drowning with shame and disgrace.
I didn’t decide to live this way.
They can kill me. It’s the price I’ll pay.
I’m standing alone with no excuses,
Before my hateful, unforgiving accusers
Now I’m frozen in fear, with ice in my veins,
No one cares about my past, the trauma, the pain.
Then in the midst of my thoughts of dying
I could hear myself quietly crying.
It was silent now, except for a soft sound,
A finger drawing upon the ground.
Then each one dropped the stone in his hand
And walked away, away from this man.
I held my breath for a final blow,
But He lifted my head, gentle and slow.
In His eyes, I saw His forgiveness and love,
I have been caught by the Messiah, the One from above.
I will never forget what He did for me,
I am forever redeemed, forever set free.
Dragged on the tile of the temple floor,
My life was ending, soon to be no more.
