My whole family is Baptist and are very strict when it comes to God. I recently did I study on Catholicism (which is another denomination of Christianity) at school and I fell in love with the idea of it. I started to talk to my Catholic friends about it and they helped me to understand it better. After I was sure I wanted to convert, I got online and found a website where I could talk to a Catholic priest. I converted a few days ago, so I'm going to have to tell my family soon. I'm afraid to tell th because I know they will not be happy. I have a strong feeling that they will reject me or not consider me the same person anymore. Any advice and prayers are welcomed and appreciated. God bless!

What is it about Catholicism that appeals to you?

I really like the faith attached to it. The way that they do things in the church. As a Baptist, we didn't really uphold the things God tells us to do and I don't agree with that.

I was raised Roman Catholic.
Then someone showed me that salvation had nothing to do with the requirements imposed by my denomination's roots. A Catholic cannot be sure of Heaven because it's based on their sacraments of good works.

Roman Catholicism is the one that I chose, and I have been taught by my Catholic friends and priests that salvation comes through faith and upholding that faith by going to church and things like that.

I appreciate you sharing, but I would recommend doing a little more research before committing. Will be praying for you.

Thank you for the advice, but I actually started researching about a year ago. I wanted to come on here to get a little extra advice so I can move from there.

The advice you may get from most Protestants is to leave Catholicism. I suggest
you not become too invested in defending Catholicism on a largely Protestant
site where many consider Catholicism heretical, unless you want to get banned.

I do have one question. I don't know if you will be able to answer it or not though. Since Catholicism was the first type of Christianity there was, then why is it heretical?

Roman Catholicism was not in existence until hundreds of years after the resurrection of Christ.

I do realize Catholics say Peter was the first pope, but no such thing existed then.

The disciples were first called Christians at Antioch. That is in Acts 11:26. Before and after that,
Christianity was called The Way, also mentioned multiple times throughout the book of Acts.

When I said that Catholicism was the first. I meant that Catholicism was the first denomination that was declared. Also, why is it considered heresy on here? It's kind of offensive to some people.

Roman Catholicism is considered heretical for very many reasons, and yes, people find some of their beliefs
quite offensive, such as saying Mary is a co-redeemer with Christ, when Scripture says that Jesus is the only
mediator between God and man, or even praying to Mary, and the "saints," when Jesus instructs us to pray to
God, and nowhere are we told to pray to dead people. Of course, the RCC says Mary did not die, and was bodily
assumed to heaven, which again is nowhere in Scripture. In fact there are only two dogmas in Catholicism
declared ex cathedra, meaning Catholics are mandated to believe them; both concern Mary, and neither has
any Scriptural backing whatsoever. If you want to be a Catholic you are supposed to believe that Mary was
and is sinless according to the ex cathedra dogma of immaculate conception.

Well, I guess that kind of makes sense, but Catholics believe that Maria (Mary) just deserves higher respect (if that makes any sort of sense). I still don't understand why they're just calling out Catholics though, most other denomination s could be considered heretic too.

It is not just Catholics who are called out, as other sects like Jehovah's Witnesses and Mormons (Church of Latter Day Saints) are called out too (and named as cults), as well as many false teachers, notably those that fall into the category of health and wealth and/or name it and claim it types. People like Oprah Winfrey get called out because she has said she is a Christian, but she denies basic teachings of Christ, such as He is the only way to the Father. She finds that offensive. Catholicism gets a lot of heat because it is more visible and has more adherents and maybe also because it has been around for so long compared to others. Some not so great history in there too, you know, such as burning other Christians at the stake.
