Was Jesus sent to Earth as a baby 2000 years ago? Or, has He been here since the world began, notably as the Tree of Life?

John 17:5 NLT - "Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began."

I have never realized this passage until the last day or two. Unbelievable.

He has been here since the beginning, even before the tree of life. :)

John 1:1-3 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. 3 Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made.

Jesus is the creator:
[Col 1:16 KJV] 16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether [they be] thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:
[Jhn 1:18 KJV] 18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared [him].

That is how the Holy Spirit works:
[Jhn 15:26 KJV] 26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, [even] the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:

Hello @2ndTimothyGroup, I know people who believe that every Theophany in the OT is actually a pre-incarnate Christophany. The jury is still out for me about that, but I do believe that a number of the appearances of God in the OT (which I used to believe were all made by the Father) were actually made by the Son (for instance, I believe that Moses met with God the Son on top of Mt. Sinai instead of the Father, and the Apostle John confirms that it was the pre-incarnate Lord Jesus sitting on the throne in Isaiah 6:1-5 .. see John 12:41).

God bless you!!

I think Jesus was talking about what things were like before he made the earth, or possibly before the beginning, like before everything started.

Jesus was sent to the earth when he was conceived in Mary's womb unless I'm somehow mistaken.

As the 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity, of course He has always been. However, it was not until He took upon Himself the form of earthly man and came to us to establish Gods salvation plan for all mankind that He walked, talked, ate, slept, laugh and cried with us as a man. He was, at that time, both fully man and fully God.

So, the answer is Yes to both parts of the questions IMO.

Yes. A little over 2000 years ago. Indeed His birth divides the calendar into BC and AD.
Or, has He been here since the world began, notably as the Tree of Life?
He is definitely not the Tree of Life. That was an actual tree, and still exists in Paradise. But Christ made many pre-incarnate appearances on earth until His birth as Jesus of Nazareth.

Hello David! Good to hear from you.

Great post, by the way. You know, when I saw that passage about Jesus asking that His Father would bring Him into the previous Glory He had BEFORE the world began, instantly thought of who was Moses talking to on Mt Zion? And like you say, what about the other contacts and interactions throughout the Bible? If Jesus has been here from the onset of creation, John 17:5 makes sense. One thing I haven't done is looked at other translations.

John 5:39 NLT - "You search the Scriptures because you think they give you eternal life. But the Scriptures point to me!"

And I have found John 5:39 to be completely true. I have spent several years outlining how the OT points to Christ, and the results are stunning. In fact, by processing all Scripture through John 5:39 will reveal an entirely new Bible.

Thank you so much!

So when Jesus said, "Bring me into," that really doesn't do much for ya? To me, it means what it says. I'm not sure that we can wipe away one of the roles of God, which is to bring Jesus His Son back to Heaven to sit on His Throne with His newly installed Crown (2000 years ago). This is the cycle of the Davidic Covenant. Jesus is sent to Earth. He returns to Heaven, and will return to Earth again in the future to complete His final Purposes and Works.

Thanks for sharing!

Yes. I think we all agree with that. I suppose the real focus of the post was regarding Jesus statement about a future action of God. Jesus asks God to perform a task, which is to bring Jesus [back] into the Glory He had [before the world began.]

the language of John 5:39 is peculiar in that, the word 'you' isn't there.
the grammar may equally be understood as a statement, 'you search' or a command, 'search!'

i believe the correct interpretation is a command. Jesus is saying, search the scriptures! not just mentioning that the pharisees did so.
in that respect, it's an imperative to all of us, to dig into the OT and find Him there - because that is the scriptures referred to, and they do indeed testify of Him, all over, on every page. i believe testimony of Him is exactly their primary intention in being recorded for us

I think I see and agree with the position you've offered. It seems that Messiah was always with us until His Ascension into Heaven. But as you indicate, becoming a Son of Man, however, it his taking the physical form of a human so that at the appointed time, He would become our Living Sacrifice.

Now gone, Jesus has given His Elect the Holy Spirit, and it seems that since the Spirit will convict the world (as Jesus said), it seems that because the Spirit is within His Elect, it will be us who convict the world through His Holy Message.

Well I mainly read from the KJV.

It says,

John 17:5
“And now, O Father, glorify thou me with thine own self with the glory which I had with thee before the world was.”

It seems like Jesus is asking the Father to glorify him now, with the glory he had with the Father before the world was (possibly before he made the earth, or maybe before everything).

I hear you. My go-to translations are the NLT and KJV. Together, oh man . . . they turned my life around. Because of the NLT, the KJV actually makes sense. My deceased wife is Japanese with English as a second language. The only way she could ever understand the KJV was if she could get a preview of it in normal American language.

To me, the NLT and KJV are saying the same exact thing regarding John 17:5.

Cheers!

John 17:5 NLT - "Now, Father, bring me into the glory we shared before the world began."

I have never realized this passage until the last day or two. Unbelievable.
He created the heaven and earth and he allocated it

“The heaven, even the heavens, are the LORD's:

But the earth hath he given to the children of men.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭115:16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

In the ot he is in heaven observing mankind in earth

The LORD is in his holy temple, The LORD's throne is in heaven:

His eyes behold, his eyelids try, the children of men.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭11:4‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“But the LORD is in his holy temple: let all the earth keep silence before him.”
‭‭Habakkuk‬ ‭2:20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Hear, all ye people; hearken, O earth, and all that therein is: and let the Lord GOD be witness against you, the Lord from his holy temple.”
‭‭Micah‬ ‭1:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; From heaven did the LORD behold the earth;”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭102:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He saw mankind on the earth

The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, And seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: There is none that doeth good, no, not one.”
‭‭Psalm‬ ‭14:2-3‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He found there was no man worthy none to intercede man lost judgement and truth became deceived and lost as blind men walking in darkness with no judgement

“Therefore is judgment far from us, neither doth justice overtake us: we wait for light, but behold obscurity; for brightness, but we walk in darkness. We grope for the wall like the blind, and we grope as if we had no eyes: we stumble at noon day as in the night; we are in desolate places as dead men. We roar all like bears, and mourn sore like doves: we look for judgment, but there is none; for salvation, but it is far off from us. And judgment is turned away backward, and justice standeth afar off: for truth is fallen in the street, and equity cannot enter. Yea, truth faileth; and he that departeth from evil maketh himself a prey: and the LORD saw it, and it displeased him that there was no judgment. And he saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no intercessor: therefore his arm brought salvation unto him; and his righteousness, it sustained him. For he put on righteousness as a breastplate, and an helmet of salvation upon his head; and he put on the garments of vengeance for clothing, and was clad with zeal as a cloke. According to their deeds, accordingly he will repay, fury to his adversaries, recompence to his enemies; to the islands he will repay recompence. So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him. And the Redeemer shall come to Zion, and unto them that turn from transgression in Jacob, saith the LORD. As for me, this is my covenant with them, saith the LORD; My spirit that is upon thee, and my words which I have put in thy mouth, shall not depart out of thy mouth, nor out of the mouth of thy seed, nor out of the mouth of thy seed's seed, saith the LORD, from henceforth and for ever.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭59:9-11, 14-21‬ ‭

So he himself became the man that was worthy To intercede for mankind who was lost without judgement he came to give us judgement

“Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence. Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:36-37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He came from his kingdom in heaven into the earth and after he accomplished his work he returned to his eternal glory of the father having now a high priest a perfect man able to intercede for sinners and save them

I came forth from the Father, ( in heaven ) and am come into the world: ( earth ) again, I leave the world, and go to the Father.”
‭‭John‬ ‭16:28‬ ‭

“So then after the Lord had spoken unto them, he was received up into heaven, and sat on the right hand of God.”
‭‭Mark‬ ‭16:19‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1:15‬ ‭KJV‬‬

He came from heaven to earth when he was born a man remember God have the earth to the children of men ….Jesus became the son of man and inherited the earth

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life. and hath given him authority to execute judgment also, because he is the Son of man.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24, 27‬ ‭KJV‬‬

God became one of us that’s who Jesus is he came into the world when this happened

“And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭1:31‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he always existed he’s the creator but he came into the world at the appointed time of the gospel when it was time for him to be revealed

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, good will toward men.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭2:11, 13-14‬ ‭KJV‬‬

he always existed but he came into the world at a certain time appoonted for salvation

heaven and earth are two realms of this creation he was in heaven came to earth and then returned
