We are told to “walk (or live) in the Spirit so that we will not fulfill the lusts of our flesh”… how do you do that? Especially when under spiritual attack!?!
When under attack, first and foremost is to hold onto the truth of God's Word, whatever you think or feel. The truths we must hold onto?
We are crucified with Christ. That means we are dead to sin, self, the Law, Satan and the world.
We are raised from the dead together with Christ
We are therefore new creations in Christ.
We have new life, life that comes out of death.
We have the victory now. We do not need to wait.
Tribulation is part of the normal Christian experience.
We have the indwelling Holy Spirit.
Jesus is Lord! And greater is He who is within us than he who is in the world.
Doubt your doubts. Satan's first attack was on God's Word. "Did God really say............" The second attack was on God's integrity.
We need to be aware that God leads us in our intuition. Flashing thoughts or feelings are not intuition. It is hard to describe, but when it is God, it is quiet and never contradicts His word. If we seek God and ask Him to show us these things, He will. He is far more willing for us to lead us than we are to be led.
We will get it wrong at times. That's how we learn. Very often we learn by discovering what it is not, before we can see what it is. When God spoke to Elijah, first there was a powerful wind, then an earthquake, then a fire. God was in none of those. God was in the still, small voice. (I'd suggest reading 1 Kings 19).
It is vital to be cleansed from sin as soon as we know that we have sinned. If our conscience is not clear, we will not hear God clearly in our intuition. The blood of Christ is the only thing that removes sin. As a friend of mine says, "Keep short accounts with God".
If all this sounds too hard, then it is the first lie of the enemy that we need to reject. Remember that God is for us, not looking for reasons to punish us harshly for mistakes we make. He loves and cares for us continually, no matter what.
