Herbert Spencer:
Born 1820: D. 1903. Brighton Sussex philosopher insisted on a synthesis of knowledge from close scientific investigation of biological and social phenomena. He believed in the continuing development of species from simple to complex forms prior to Darwin’s investigations, which made Spencer one of the early evolutionists. He did express that religion has a place besides science in attempting to refer to the unknown and unknowable.
Spencer was rewarded for his work in categorical achievements. He claimed that five things existed in the universe. He spent his life drawing these conclusions. The five categories are,
Time
Force
Action
Space
Matter
All Spencer had to do was consult the very first page of the Bible to get this information: “In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.”
1. Time = “In the beginning;”
2. Force = “God;”
3. Action = “Created;”
4. Space = “The heavens;”
5. Matter = “The earth:”
All one needs when they read the Bible is a boundless capacity for astonishment!
