Hi, I’m 55 yo and have spent my life dipping into spiritual practices: Buddhism, NeoAdvaita, etc.
I have always felt that Christ was a permanent presence underlying everything and have expressed that openly in the past
But now I know I am a Christian. I come here not knowing what I should be doing other than to be aware of the presence of God and give daily thanks for that.

Hi and welcome. Glad you're here; and glad to hear you've decided to follow Christ.

In Matthew 22, when Jesus was asked what was the greatest commandment, He said: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets." Matthew 22:37-40

And in another place some people asked Jesus: " 'What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?' Jesus answered and said to them, 'This is the work of God, that you believe in Him [Jesus] whom He [God] sent.' " John 6:28-29

Welcome to Christianchat! My advice would be to seek a church that you are comfortable with.
Faith comes by hearing the word of God, and how will you hear unless you are taught!
Yes you can read the Bible, but you may also speed up the process of learning by the teaching of a faithful pastor. You will also benefit by being surrounded by like-minded people.
Choose wisely, listen to sermons from various churches in your area before making a decision.

I pray that you are blessed in your walk with God..........

^ Gospel of John is often recommended as a great place to start reading the Bible.
This movie is a word-for-Word portrayal of John's gospel.

Have you heard of the Alpha Course?

There are 10 videos total. I hope you watch them. They could benefit you greatly :)

well if you give thanks everyday that's great

Well I would say it always best to seek God For advice.

There's also A good time to be had by daily communion with God, and waiting on the lord, I mean just like waiting for a bus.

It's only then can you learn to wait all day if you have time to wait each day, it's better.

But if you don't have time make time, as the sooner you can learn to wait all day from dusk to dawn, the sooner you will learn the biggest knowledge of all. Which is waiting whilst multitasking 😊

It called a wonderful higher counsel from the mighty father.

Its where you learn to to trust judgment in also many ways.

And when the cultures and the vultures come along disturbing your peace, you will soon learn they are disturbed, and you'll just watch them come and go all day as they try to disturb you 😊.

But trying will be all they can do, as once your built up, in this the armour of all armours, (waiting on the lord and mastered to perfection) there's no way they can disturb the peace of the father.

well and truly

welcome,
I remembered after reading your post something written by James;

Hearing and Doing the Word
Jas 1:19 My beloved brothers, understand this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger,
Jas 1:20 for man’s anger does not bring about the righteousness that God desires.
Jas 1:21 Therefore, get rid of all moral filth and every expression of evil, and humbly accept the word planted in you, which can save your souls.
Jas 1:22 Be doers of the word, and not hearers only. Otherwise, you are deceiving yourselves.
Jas 1:23 For anyone who hears the word but does not carry it out is like a man who looks at his face in a mirror,
Jas 1:24 and after observing himself goes away and immediately forgets what he looks like.
Jas 1:25 But the one who looks intently into the perfect law of freedom, and continues to do so—not being a forgetful hearer, but an effective doer—he will be blessed in what he does.
Jas 1:26 If anyone considers himself religious and yet does not bridle his tongue, he deceives his heart and his religion is worthless.
Jas 1:27 Pure and undefiled religion before our God and Father is this: to care for orphans and widows in their distress, and to keep oneself from being polluted by the world.

Simply do good around you, follow the commandments and be a light in the darkness,

Peace.

Hello, do you happen to own a mountain?
If so, what's it like?
We've got a few in West Virginia and just about all of them are forested, really beautiful.

Here's someone's more recent videos of a mountain where I called out to God and He spoke to me through His creation and performed a miracle that saved my life.

Absolutely DEVOUR the Bible. If you come across something interesting, write down what intrigues you and where the verse is, If you don't get something ot it makes you question something or think of a question you want to ask write it down. When I sold out to Christ in 1997 I filled several notebooks and my pastor invited me to a Bible study with ministers who had a combined total of over 60 years in ministry. I asked them my questions and they were awesome about teaching me. I can do that for you as well. I studied 14 of the world's major religions and Christianity is the only one I couldn't refute
