I've been to Ontario, when I was 8-9 years old, I've been to Ohio several times - even spent a year there at school, I've been through virginia, washington dc & pennsylvania just to visit my daughter and see the domino sugar factory from a distance (forgot what that state is), then I went to colorado and arizona a couple times, and so-ca for 4 days, which is an amazing story of friendship and love. I really didn't get to "see the sights" in any of them too much. :(

Much of the US, Western Europe, Asia Minor, North Africa, and that is all. People tend to be very much the same everywhere, and if the visitor is thoughtful and polite, the visitor is always received well. At least it was when I traveled; things mayu be a lot differenct now, but all mankind should be loved, whether things are the same or not.

I have only traveled within Australia..

The furthest North i have been is to Cairns, Queensland..
The furthest South is Murry's Lookout, Victoria..
The furthest West is Broken Hill, New South Wales..
The furthest East is Gold Coast, Queensland..

Happy to say i saw quite a few sites in these places..

I've been to Texas, Missouri, Florida and Alabama. That's as far west, north, east and south as I have been.

What? Tennessee is great. Why would I want to go somewhere else? :geek: :cool:

I've been in or through well over half of the US and Hawaii, England, Scotland, Ireland, Italy, Canada, Mexico, Belize, island of Grenada, Trinidad, Puerto Rico, Bahamas... born and raised in Texas.
We have an island hopping cruise starting in Rome, going through the Greek islands scheduled for next fall.... God willing.

That's a lot! Sheesh.

I have not traveled as much as I would have liked. Born in NYC, I've been to Boston, Miami, San Francisco (before they totally lost their minds), lived in Los Angeles, visited San Diego, Sedona Valley, the Grand Canyon, Delaware, Washington D.C., and a suburb of Atlanta. Only been outside the country once, a small town in Mexico via a cruise back in 2003. Town was more American than many Latin-American neighborhoods in the US, clearly trying to cater to tourists.

I'd like to visit Japan and Italy.

I have been to.....

Japan, Italy, Greece, Croatia, Turkey and Bahamas.
Alaska, Michigan, Texas, Indiana, Illinois, North Carolina, Virginia, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts, Vermont, New York and Kentucky.
All the Canadian provinces. :)

Quebec, beautiful province and Italy is the best!

I've been to 47 of the 50 states. The ones I've missed have been in the northeast. Countrywise I've been to Canada, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Japan, China, Guam, England, Wales, Greece, Germany, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Crete, and I'm probably forgetting a couple...

The sushi in Japan was incredible. My favorite country is Italy. I've been pretty much everywhere except Rome.

World: St. Thomas, St. Croix, St. John, Bahamas, Caymen Islands, Virgin Gorda, Jamaica, Mexico, Aruba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, St. Maarten, Barbados, St. Christopher & Nevis & Key West. some of those places, many times each. plus cruises.

So, a question to all travelers.
When you traveled, did you stay in full tourist mode or did you engage the locals about the way of life and all the details of day to day activities including jobs, prices, homes, etc?

well..... I ran for public office, but lost, so I just went back into tourist mode..... :ROFL:

We, of course, were obviously tourists, but talking to the locals is just a natural for me.... except in Italy.... I don't speak Italian.
I guess I don't speak Canadian, either.

I was asking this question because JaumeJ said that people are the same pretty much everywhere. While this is true to some extent, i think that people are very very different especially in Europe where if you travel 100 miles, you just crossed 3 countries, each with 10 different customs and traditions and accents. :D

Whereas in USA, it's pretty much smooth sailing in terms of language and tradition. Yes, the North and South differs from accents and food and even faith, but besides that it's Universally English and pretty much the same traditions and customs when you travel vast distances.

By experience I believe that is more than enough travel to know people everywhere. I could be wrong, but I see the same everywehre, and perhaps this is your experience too. God bess you.

My reference to being the same is to the desires and spirit of people in general. Customs and traditions are largely harmless affectations reacting to environment and human influences.

I know what you mean, but this is where the phrase "Culture Shock" came from.
For example i couldn't understand at first why someone under 21 couldn't have a drink or even more shocking why it would be illegal for me as 19 year old to have a beer in the park. :D
