Would Jesus drink Alcohol?

Never.

Jesus would not, and did not, ingest alcohol.

Jesus is all about purity of body and soul. There is nothing at all pure about alcohol. It is toxic to the human body. It is poison. It is great as an antiseptic, sure. It kills microorganisms and bacteria that it comes into contact with.

Good for human ingestion? Not so much. Take a good look at the fermentation process and think again if it makes any sense at all that Jesus would make, or serve, alcohol to anyone.

Alcohol is literally the feces of the yeast microorganism. The yeast consumes the sugar of fruits/vegetables and excretes alcohol. It also flatulates carbon dioxide so the carbonation, all the little bubbles in wine, is the gas that exits the yeast's rectum.

Does this sound like a holy and pure substance that Christ would enjoy or give to many people to ingest after they had all "well drunken"?

The fact is that wine in the Bible is referred to by a single English word when the original language used multiple words to refer to what we call wine and also what we call grape juice (unfermented).

Jesus never drank alcohol and what He actually made was pure, fresh grape juice from water - as much of a miracle as creating alcohol, if not more so.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible speaks negatively of ingesting alcohol in many places.

George Cruikshank's painting "The Worship of Bacchus" was a very well known and sought after work in its day. It depicts how society uses alcohol and is destroyed by it. Bacchus is the ancient Greek god of wine and intoxication.

The Temperance movement of the late 1800s and early 1900s was all about avoiding alcohol all together. It was widely held as a "demon drink" and well known to destroy families and entire societies.

Cruikshank's 1860 painting was very popular in its day, but it is almost impossible to find anywhere now and not spoken of at all.

The powerful alcohol lobbies have all but buried it in obscurity.

Hey Braweh, guess what Jesus did for his first miracle, he turned water to wine! There is nothing wrong with an occasional glass of wine.

Jesus drank wine which is not a sin. The word of God tells us not to drink wine in excess. And to be sober. Yet for those who are subsetible to addictions, we obtain for their sake as The word of God says. Jesus never lacked self-control, even when he drank wine.

Jesus drank wine, as was their Jewish culture to do so. Jesus also was Circumcised.

If you are claiming that Jesus made water into fermented wine, that is utter blasphemy. Six water pots of stone would have been about 72 to 162 gallons of wine, which would have got everyone drunk that was there. If this wine was fermented then Jesus broke the law and was a sinner. We know this is not so because our Lord is sinless and that Jesus made new wine, which is grape juice.

Leviticus 10:9 Do not drink wine nor strong drink, thou, nor thy sons with thee, when ye go into the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations: 10 And that ye may put difference between holy and unholy, and between unclean and clean;

Habakkuk 2:15 Woe unto him that giveth his neighbour drink, that puttest thy bottle to him, and makest him drunken also..

Matthew 26:29 "But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father's kingdom."

New wine can be made by squeezing a bunch of grapes into a cup according to the below verse.

Genesis 40:11 "And Pharaoh's cup was in my hand: and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand."

Proverbs 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Wine is a what? A mocker, not might or maybe...wine is a mocker. It will mock you.

Contrary to popular belief, the Bible speaks in favor of and positively of ingesting alcohol in a number of places.

Ecclesiastes 9:7 Go ahead and enjoy your meals as you eat. Drink your wine
with a joyful attitude, because God already has approved your actions.

Psalm 104:14-15 “You make grass grow for cattle and make vegetables for humans to use in order to get food from the
ground. You make wine to cheer human hearts, olive oil to make faces shine, and bread to strengthen human hearts.”

1 Timothy 5:23 Drink no longer water only, but use a little wine for your stomach’s sake and your frequent illnesses.

Proverbs 31:6-7 Let beer be for those who are perishing, wine for those who are in
anguish! Let them drink and forget their poverty and remember their misery no more.

Although sobriety is definitely recommended and preferred. Some may prefer not to drink.
Others do not have the same strictures. Not everyone who drinks does so wantonly.

And... here we go again.

Only one verse is needed to put this silly debate to rest:

Deuteronomy 14:26 Use the silver to buy whatever you like: cattle, sheep, wine or other fermented drink, or anything you wish.

However, even plain Scripture won't convince the closed-minded.

And... you cannot prove Jesus drank any of it either.

Those that claim He did have been reading the Book of Speculations!

You cannot prove from scripture that He did, so all you have is speculation and wishful thinking.

That is not what I think anyone said, nor is the First miracle Jesus did contextual with Do not drink wine to excess.


Little info for you: the first wine given at the wedding Jesus attended was fermented as it was clearly known as New wine unfermented. Also, Jesus seen many times sitting with those who were drinking.
Wine in a bottle doesn't make you drunk unless you drink to excess therefore, as Paul said, don't do things to cause your brother or sister to fall. To suggest it is blasphemy to say the wine Jesus made was or had alcohol is just wrong and legalistic. I agree with was not wine that was fermented.

Anything that would be harmful to the body would be considered wrong.

If alcohol is bad for the body then it would not be permitted to drink it.

Wine in the Bible appears to mean unfermented or fermented grape juice.

People want to justify their drinking alcohol.

If we are permitted to drink a little alcohol but not drink a lot then that would seem like it is a temptation to allow us to drink a little alcohol for it could lead to more drinking alcohol.

God did not say you can kiss a woman but go no further if you are not married for you are not to touch her at all.

He did not say you can steal a piece of bubble gum but do not steal anything of more value.

If we are allowed to drink a little alcohol it could tempt us to want to drink more alcohol which they will admit is not permitted.

Also the Spirit is our Comforter that will comfort us with joy, peace, and love, and it is spiritual in the New Testament.

So why would someone be permitted to drink alcohol that is a comfort to the body, and bad for the body.

Pro 23:31 Look not thou upon the wine when it is red, when it giveth his colour in the cup, when it moveth itself aright.
Pro 23:32 At the last it biteth like a serpent, and stingeth like an adder.

Do not drink the wine when it ferments.

Pro 20:1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink is raging: and whosoever is deceived thereby is not wise.

Luk 1:15 For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord, and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Ghost, even from his mother's womb.

John the Baptist was not permitted to drink alcohol for he was to be holy to prepare the way of the Lord which he had the Spirit from the womb which was not to save him for all must accept Christ but to give him power to live a life pure and holy, and be right with God.

Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, a sinless man who was pure and holy so why would He drink alcohol but it was not permitted for John to drink it.

Pro 31:4 It is not for kings, O Lemuel, it is not for kings to drink wine; nor for princes strong drink:
Pro 31:5 Lest they drink, and forget the law, and pervert the judgment of any of the afflicted.

Isa 9:6 For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.

Rev 1:5 And from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, and the first begotten of the dead, and the prince of the kings of the earth. Unto him that loved us, and washed us from our sins in his own blood,
Rev 1:6 And hath made us kings and priests unto God and his Father; to him be glory and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

It is not for kings and princes to drink alcohol and Jesus is King of kings, and the Prince of peace.

And the saints are made kings and priests unto God the Father.

Why would Jesus drink alcohol and why would the saints drink alcohol.

Jdg 13:3 And the angel of the LORD appeared unto the woman, and said unto her, Behold now, thou art barren, and bearest not: but thou shalt conceive, and bear a son.
Jdg 13:4 Now therefore beware, I pray thee, and drink not wine nor strong drink, and eat not any unclean thing.

Jdg 13:13 And the angel of the LORD said unto Manoah, Of all that I said unto the woman let her beware.
Jdg 13:14 She may not eat of any thing that cometh of the vine, neither let her drink wine or strong drink, nor eat any unclean thing: all that I commanded her let her observe.

Samson's mother could not drink alcohol.

The saints have the Spirit so why would they drink alcohol.

Any person that is to be holy and pure is to not drink alcohol, and Jesus was holy and pure, and all the saints are to be that way.

Mat 11:19 The Son of man came eating and drinking, and they say, Behold a man gluttonous, and a winebibber, a friend of publicans and sinners. But wisdom is justified of her children.

This does not mean Jesus drank alcohol for the people either accused Him wrongly, or else it means unfermented grape juice.

Gluttony would be wrong for God said eat food consistent for your needs so they accused Jesus wrongly in that.

I do not believe Jesus drank alcohol for John could not drink alcohol, and He was conceived of the Spirit, and King of kings, and the Prince of peace.

His purpose on Earth, and His lifestyle testifies that He would of not been able to drink alcohol.

Samson's mom could not drink alcohol.

It is not for kings and princes to drink alcohol.

John the Baptist could not drink alcohol.

People who are to be pure and holy are not to drink alcohol.

But Jesus drank alcohol which does not make sense.

People want to justify drinking alcohol for they like it but it is a fleshy pleasure which they like the feeling, and not good for the body, and not a necessity.

God said be ye holy for I am holy so why would the saints drink alcohol when all people that are to be holy cannot drink alcohol.

LOL Listen, Jesus did not sin because he drank wine. Sorry, but the water in those days was not very good. The wine was used to heal and for pain. Also for celebration. Those who took the Nazerite Calling were instructed not to drink strong drinks.

Jesus said in Matthew 26:29 "But I say to you, I will not drink of this fruit of the vine from now on until that day when I drink it new with you in My Father’s kingdom.”


News flash This was not Jesus' first passover meal where wine was served. Jesus said, " I will not drink of this Fruit of the vine FROM NOW ON."

That means Jesus drank wine before that day or time for that Passover meal as Jewish tradition and law.

There is nothing in the Bible stating that Jesus never drank alcohol.. If Alcohol consumption was sin then Jesus would never have turned Water into Wine..

Jesus is/was most certainly NOT a Jew and that was very irreverent.

Nobody stays sober by drinking alcohol.

And nobody drinks alcohol to stay sober.

Jesus never touched it in His life.
