um, hello...

Erasthones wasn't proving the earth is a globe, he was calculating an estimate of the circumference of the globe.

so, whatever you were quoting there, is pretty ignorant.

it was already well proven the earth is spherical from many ways, for hundreds of years before Erasthones, from ships disappearing over the horizon, from the motion of stars, from the sunrise and sunset, from the shadow of the earth during an eclipse of the moon, etc.
posthuman, I generally respect your opinion on science.

With that said, can you explain the view of “shadow of the earth, during the eclipse of the moon”?

I’m guessing, I’m not gonna agree with it, but what like to understand the official view. Plus, I’m not sure what you meant.

Thanks for any answer. AND, where have you been? I’m sure Dino would like some help debunking the flat earthers😀

it's a circular arc, from everywhere on earth it is observed - indicating that it is a shadow cast by a spherical object.

a person may not agree that the eclipsing of the moon is due to a shadow cast by the sun, but they should know that the model for which this is the case is able to reliably & demonstrably predict down to the second when eclipses occur and exactly what they look like from everywhere on earth.

so any alternative model ((such as one from the standpoint of a flat earth with a tiny sunnorbiting overhead a disc)) would have to meet the same successful predictive qualities to be taken seriously... and as it stands, flat earth can't even predict lunar phases or explain sunrises, and to my knowledge doesn't have any reasonable explanation for eclipses at all.

new job, not much free time..
and really this topic is sooooo beat to death. there are only a couple of holdouts and they haven't exactly gotten more reasonable after years of the same repeated debunkings...

Thanks!

Flat Earth doesn’t even have a model of the sun and moon that is functional, so asking how an eclipse works is to advanced for flat earthers. I agree that flat earth is silly.

what’s interesting is a lunar eclipse is when the moon is hiding behind the earth in the Heliocentric model, and a solar eclipse is when the moon blocks the sun in a Heliocentric model. How it’s worded, I was thinking the opposite.

I think the concave hollow earth model answers the eclipses in a reasonable manner, will post them later[/QUOTE]

I’m not sure that job is a good fit, we need you on CC. You will be missed, if your hours don’t change.

Why should they get more reasonable? The way things are going in the world, they are pretty tame.

Perhaps closer to the truth would be the science of "modern science" disagrees with the (heliocentric) religion of "modern science"?
I often use the term 'modern science' to mean something modern that is other than 'real science'.

Using the word 'about' helps - but, if you think about what 'orbit' means - you might want to say something like 'circling above the Earth' instead... ;)

"Just food for thought..."
I have a philosophical objection. :p

When I think orbit, I think 2D elliptical paths like the chariot races from the Roman era. Even the NASA conspirators show the orbits of the planets as elliptical (2D) rather than 3D.

https://www.etymonline.com/word/orbit

orbit (n.)late 14c., "the eye-socket, the bony cavity of the skull which contains the eye," from Old French orbite or directly from Medieval Latin orbita, a transferred use of Latin orbita "wheel track, beaten path, rut, course" (see orb). The astronomical sense of "circular or elliptical path of a planet or comet" (recorded in English from 1690s; later also of artificial satellites) was in classical Latin and was revived in Gerard of Cremona's translation of Avicenna. The Old English word for "eye socket" was eaghring.

People still think that the earth is flat? Reading the threads on the subject makes me think they’re just trolling, but then again, they seem to be extremely persistent in their wrongful thinking. Like it is an ideology…just like that one million gender thing lol.

The earth is not only flat, it's also a pizza with everything.

Flat Earth is the observation. Ball-Earthers can't provide a single piece of irrefutable evidence the Earth is a ball. Scripture implies the Earth be flat, and science dictates that we go with our observations without evidence to the contrary. It seems the only valid choice for those who reject cultism. :)

Time until @Handyman62 makes a 'We observe pizza!' post:

... 3 ... 2 ... 1 ...

;)
And here it is. There's undeniable proof the earth is a pizza. And to prove it all a person has to do is reach down and grab a handful of earth, shove it in their mouth and chew away. After that everyone would have to agree it taste just like a pizza with everything.

Some planets are largely gas, so...I guess those are vegetarian pizzas.

According to the Ball Earth model, it is impossible for everyone on earth (every place on earth) to [even] see the moon simultaneously.
it's typical of a stymied cultist to play word games.

Interesting, I never considered that some pizza planets might be made up of pizza gas. Might be worth it to consider sending all the vegetarians to one of them.
