"People of the Book" refers to Christians and Jews.
According to this verse, they are to be violently subjugated, with the sole justification being their religious status.

I think it’s important to separate Hamas from the inhabitants of Gaza. There a lot of people out there who have not heard the gospel, some of them will listen and be converted when they do.
