I agree. I'm no expert on the subject, but I think brussels sprouts need to be cooked well to lessen the bitter tastes, kind of like onions. Then I like mine with plenty of butter and some spice, like pepper. Brazing them in an oven so they get browned, or browned on a grill are my favs, but I think they still need to be well cooked, so that can be tricky.

Actually they don't taste bitter anymore. All the hatred is based on old news. Modern brussels sprouts are not bitter at all.

But I liked them back in the day, even when they were bitter.

I was just reading a devotional on how greed is good, God just calls it abundance.
Its being stingy and mean that's bad.

Greed is stingy and mean.

Maybe your devotional meant to use "abundance" instead?

The bible reads it's good to enjoy the fruits of God, and our labor, all good things are from the Lord. We have wisdom for balance.

It's bizarre to use the word greed in that way. But maybe the devotional writer was trying to describe how some mistake "a life more abundantly' with greed. The early church and Paul fought against a gnostic stoicism.

Dont you mean as ascetism? I think stoicism something else, though Im a bit rusty on greek philosophy. Theres also hedonism. Christian are often either characterised as either really generous if they are rich or frugal if they are poor.

Though it seems to me rich people can be the most terrible misers and the poor are actually more generous.

Ascetism is the word I was looking for.

I dont drink it because I just dont like the taste, not because anyone is banning me from drinking it.

Although my sister seems to get annoyed that I dont eat food that I dont like, for some strange reason. But when she does the same, apparently its ok for her.

From what I've read, coffee was once forbidden in SDA, but not anymore. For Mormons the prophet wrote hot drinks are not for the belly, thought to mean coffee/tea. Generally they both view it in the modern sense to avoid any substance damaging/addicting to the body. Both were through visions and presented as guidelines. You aren't likely to see coffee served at either church.

But... But... What about hot chocolate?!

Anybody who categorically bans hot drinks just isn't thinking.

I have never been to either churches, so not sure what they are like. Some churches advertise free coffee as a way to get people attending!

Most churches here serve tea and coffee and biscuits as 'fellowship' rather than wine/grape juice and crackers/bread. Its kinda weird. Maybe its an anglo thing.

Messianic churches have potluck, but they say no pork please. So everyone brings ten types of chicken.

It gives you an out... you can always slurp up a bowl of coffee soup.
