Hello,
I wanted to introduce myself, as I just joined and am still finding my way around.

This isn't a dating website, correct? It's for Christians who would like to chat about various things, and if things evolve one way or another, then that's good, but that's not the direct goal - is that about right?

A friend met his now wife on here so I am simply looking to clarify. And also wondering what is the best way or ways to engage and interact with people. I am Canadian, 46f, never married, no kids, gainfully employed in a job that is good and that I enjoy, I attend a confessional Lutheran church, however I have a lot of experience with different denominations and backgrounds. I spent two years on campus at bible school for a diploma which provided a lot of time in scripture and to learn about various things.

If anyone wants to meet, talk more, feel free to send me a message. If you have any suggestions about how to get the most out of this website, I'd love to hear.

Thank you!

Howdy and welcome to the forum.

Yes this is mostly a place to hang out and chat, not to meet a future spouse. Mostly because a lot of us are old and tired and don't have the energy for that kind of thing. :p

There aren't really any tips I can give you about interaction here. Just read threads people have started and chip in your own thoughts, or start your own conversation threads and see where they go. They will almost certainly veer promptly into left field, but you should get some discussion on the intended topic eventually.

If you start a conversation about music I will probably take over the thread and never stop talking. You should probably avoid music as a topic. I can also talk for hours about computers, food and chocolate, but music is the main thing to avoid.

Lately we have had a few people hanging around just to find things to pick apart, to make themselves feel better by making you feel worse. Try your best to ignore them. If you don't react they will eventually go away and find some other thread where they can say people they don't agree with are not real christians.

We hope you enjoy yourself here.

Oh yeah...

Just to get this out in the open, there are a few married people here. Some of them were single when they started, then they got married and we didn't have the heart to kick them out. Others are married and have good, insightful things to say, and we want to keep them around. Besides, we talk about a lot of stuff here, not just topics related specifically to single people. We value their input on any thread they want to post in. And there are some who fit both aforementioned categories.

I believe simply bein' your lovely self and engaging in whatever forum discussion interests you is all you have to do! Easy peasy. You're at a great age, lots of people here from Canada so you're probably very relatable. The bonus is you've had a couple of years in a bible school so you can visit the bible discussion forum and make 'em question their beliefs! Just kidding, but can't think a finer thing to do, sometimes. Good luck. I think you're already doing fine.

One other thing...

Don't feed the Lynx. He'll follow you home and you'll never be able to get rid of him.

You can talk for hours about chocolate?? lol! I'm a dark chocolate type person. And I try not to buy it because I inhale it despite my best intentions. I loved the book Charlie and the Chocolate factory as a child, but have not seen the movie and probably won't.
Music - hmm, I don't listen to much music besides hymns at the moment. I've stopped listening to contemporary Christian music. I like The Corrs, Abba, lots of others. I was born in 76 so that gives you an idea of my generation. Feel free to tell me a bit about you, or to critique my disclosures. ;)

Oh I got plenty music from the 70s, 80s and earlier. More than 2000 tracks in my collection are recorded off old records and cassettes. Hemphills, Andre Crouch, Hinsons, Gold City Quartet, Walter Hawkins, Happy Goodmans...

Play record, record audio on computer, edit into tracks - once it's digital you can do anything with it, including load it on a phone and play it anywhere.

And yes I can talk for hours about chocolate.

"What's the difference? Chocolate is chocolate."

"Uh... No. My chocolate is serious chocolate. While your candy is playing on the playground, my dark chocolate is putting on its work boots."

That's a real conversation that happened at my job. She honestly didn't see why I didn't like the "chocolate" she preferrred.

But what about the shower?? :D

"Do you sing at church?"
"Yes I sing at church. And I sing at work. And I sing at home... and in the car... at the supermarket... at Wal-Mart..."

Grandma's always asleep right next door at the time I take a shower and I don't want to wake her up. But I am probably humming something.

I met my wife here too, who is also a member, shortly after I joined in 2014 and we were married later in the year. Yes, this site is a great resource to chat on various things. Glad to have you join our community. Welcome to CC.

Hmm. This scares me. Joking.

Welcome to CC. Stay away from the Bible Study forum, unless you have thick skin.

Lynx is single and looking.

I'd definitely recommend you see Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory (1971) with Gene Wilder. I think it's amazing. I don't recommend the 2005 film. Welcome to CC!

Welcome. My brother (estranged) lives in Ottowa. I've not spoken to him for years as he hates God and Christians in general. He's 70.

A friend, whom I met on CC in 2011, also met her husband here. Her husband is Canadian, and they now live in Kitimat, CA.
They met in a chatroom, not in a forum. Currently, the chat room is very quiet, often with no one there.
Sometimes I miss the old times when the chat room was very active, and we could meet people from different countries.
Anyway, I hope you can find what you're looking for.

@I_am_Canadian is also Canadian....

yea its not a dating site though so many people seem to use this as one, I have never actually read or seen anyone go on a date here, well since the time Ive been here which is several years now

So either I dont know how it works, or I just post stuff on here in my spare time because its a forum and I like writing about random topics/thoughts...christian things

I dont really put TOO much personal details about myself on here, its the internet after all. Its not a way for people to access your bank account (if you have one) for example
