Here is the original post:

Who are the poor among us?

Are those labeled poor by modern American standards the same as the poor spoken of in the Bible?

"If you read the history of that time and the Dead Sea Scrolls it becomes clear they are talking about a certian group and not just those without money or goods."

Who are the "they" in your sentence?
It is disputed and many fight against it to retain their own denomanational sects but I would refer you to a book:

A RELIGIOUS ENCYCLOPAEDIA OR DICTIONARY OF BIBLICAL, HISTORICAL, DOCTRINAL, AND PRACTICAL THEOLOGY Vol. 2 3rd Edition
BASED ON THE REAL-ENGYKLOPADIE OF HERZOG, PUTT AND HAUCK. EDITED BT PHILIP SCHAFP, D.D., LL.D., FUNK & WAGNALLS COMPANY, 1891 Pg. 684-685

This is a basic and easy to understand overview without studying multiple books.

Could you slow down on the pronouns a bit.

You did not even answer me about who the "they" are in post #60.

So what is the "it" that you mention twice in your sentence:

"It is disputed and many fight against it to retain their own denomanational sects but I would refer you to a book:"

I would truly like to respond to you but your use of pronouns before the antecedent is rather confusing.

I would refer you to this website:

Sorry my English is not better, the information I pointed you to will give you insight on your question.

The question your are asking, the answer is disputed and many fight against the historical record to retain their own denomanational sects/views but I would refer you to a book:

It's obvious that many people can read the words of scripture but the meaning and importance is lost on them as it was the parables told by Jesus.

.
I've been watching some YouTube videos recently focusing upon the
homeless in various cities and quite amazed at the number of them with
smart phones and money enough to purchase a steady diet of fentanyl.

Here in Oregon panhandlers with cardboard signs often have key fobs
hanging from their belts with remote control car keys on them.

Every use of "the poor" is not talking about the exact same people, there are those poor in money/goods, those poor in spirit and there is also another group called "the poor"

And the importance of debating these details is of what importance?
This is a Christian forum with a question about the meaning of a particular passage of scripture...or did I miss something?
Boasting? Jealousy? Envy? I'm unsure.

Well, the is a Bible Discussion Forum, so that is the point of this forum, discussion and debate. That has nothing to do with boasting, jealousy, or envy. While some people may have thsoe traits saying that openly to people who want to discuss, share, learn, etc. is not accurate.

Also, I did not start the topic but I wanted to point that out...

discuss, share, learn, etc.

The Amercan standard of "poor" is middle class for most of the world.
the middle class in America is being phrased out, somewhat. it's a tougher level to maintain with love of money so prevalent in government.

Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
Those are poor in their spirit and strong in YHWH's Spirit. is how I view that verse

Those poor in YHWH's Spirit are who I believe that person was talking about, thats how I took it atleast.

1 John 3:24, “And the one guarding His commands stays in Him, and He in him. And by this we know that He stays in us, by the Spirit which He gave us.”

Hebrews 10:16, “This is the covenant that I shall make with them after those days, says יהוה, giving My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I shall write them.”

Ezekiel 11:19-21, “And I shall give them one heart, and put a new spirit within you. And I shall take the stony heart out of their flesh, and give them a heart of flesh, so that they walk in My laws, and guard My right-rulings, and shall do them. And they shall be My people and I shall be their Strength. But to those whose hearts walk after the heart of their disgusting matters and their abominations, I shall recompense their deeds on their own heads,” declares the Master יהוה.”

Correct, because its easier to oppress and coerce the poor, but those strong in YHWH's Spirit it will only make them more steadfast
