I would like to get baptized.

I am scared of going to church because I have been afraid of people all my life. I have been maybe 10 times but have always sat in the back and tried to make myself small as possible. Do you have to be Baptist to get baptized? Do you have to schedule it beforehand? I really love Christianity but still very new to me.

I definitely encourage you to be water baptized, but you do not necessarily have to be baptized in a church setting. In the Bible, baptisms normally took place in a river or a body of water. If you know someone who is a genuine Christian, then maybe you can just ask them to baptize you in a lake, or a swimming pool, or even in your bathtub. The location of the water is not what is important. Instead, it is the understanding of what baptism represents that is important. Basically, your old nature is being buried, symbolically, in the water, and when you emerge from the water, you are emerging as a new creation in Christ, or as someone who has been born again; assuming that you have first placed saving faith in Christ.

No. Many different denominational groups will baptize by immersion, upon "profession of Faith" (i.e. that you've been born again, and are a Christian. Baptist churches, Assembly of God, Methodists CHurches of CHrist, etc. baptize by immersion.

Typically yes. Speak to the pastor of the church where the baptism is to be done. Churches typically wait until they have multiple candidates before scheduling a Baptismal ceremony, and there's the business of a change of clothes, and towels etc.

All the more reason to discuss it with a pastor. We just had a baptism in a local Assembly of God church (122 people), and the last baptism at our Assembly of God church was for 5 people. I was baptized in a Baptist Church, and my Wife was baptized by an Assembly of God pastor in a lake in Massachusetts in October (Brrr).

You're not JOINING A CHURCH by being baptised, that's a whole 'nother issue. You only fulfilling a Biblical Ordinance. When you've been Born Again and have become a Christian, then you should be baptized in water.

No need to worry about baptism at all.
I'll walk you through the process.
The main thing is that it's according to God's desire as is described in His Word.
Acts 8 There's a man who wanted to be baptized too.
The Preacher Philip would not baptize him unless he got saved first, as described in this short video Here.

"Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus. 36And as they went on their way, they came unto a certain water: and the eunuch said, See, here is water; what doth hinder me to be baptized? 37And Philip said, If thou believest with all thine heart, thou mayest. And he answered and said, I believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God. 38And he commanded the chariot to stand still: and they went down both into the water, both Philip and the eunuch; and he baptized him."

In many bible versions an all import verse is left out of this paragraph. Like many denominations, they imply and teach that baptism is the work that is necessary for salvation. Some even baptize babies like their predecessors, the Catholics. I would find a Baptist church that is KJV only and has the right message of salvation as I posted in the link for you. After that is settled, I can walk you through the next step.

I was baptized in a river by my pastor in old school revival fashion !🙌🙌 in front of maybe 50 people but it could have been any previously baptized person doing it, didn’t necessarily have to be a clergy.They later aired it along with my testimony to the congregation through video. It was fun - got river water up my nose had some small potluck foods riverside after really cool stuff. 😀

Pretty much any church will baptize you upon a profession of faith.

My own journey, forced baptism as a baby, then, while a "babe In Christ" ( according
to God's Simple Will! ), I was in Confusion about this very thing for 11 years, reformed
with "infant baptism," found out was "Not in Scripture" at all, "church of christ" for water
salvation, and Finally baptist tradition with 'symbolism."

But God is Good, He Helps us solve it all. He Led to me to His Word Of Truth, Rightly
Divided. Then I had to leave all religions and denomination traditions behind. Here is

God bless you jmill, I had a similar experience growing up and afraid of people. When I heard the gospel I obediently prayed, believed and was baptised as a teenager, then again as a young adult. A few years after that, God gave me the understanding of repentance and full surrender to Him.
And that the blood of Gods Son, the Lord Jesus Christ is on the mercy seat in heaven today, for us, as we see in the scriptures.
If you can find a church there that is built on the foundation principles of the doctrine of Christ as we see in Hebrews 6:1-2, that is the place to be baptised.
As a Christian we are to be obedient to the voice of the in dwelling Holy Spirit (Resident Boss), so not to be afraid of what people or even “Christians” think, say or do. They can make mistakes as we can also.
In scripture we see places where the House of God/Church gathered and how there were those who had “not defiled their garments” when others in that particular gathering were not so concerned about being defiled by the world.
Church foundation must be correct, but there will be some that are not enduring to the end.

When i watched Oh Brother Where Art Though the scene of the river baptism and the song Oh Sisters lets go down made me cry it was so beautiful and that river baptism seemed most desirable to me.

What led up to mine was. I had been going to church service consistently about a year and had watched a few baptisms. God started tugging at my heart at every baptism to be obedient and every time I’d push back and tell Him nah… I can’t do that, I have stage fright id tell him being baptized that way just didn’t appeal to me and I’m so busy . So God finally said “fine” And sure enough not but a few months later during announcements they announced the offer of a future Sunday afternoon river baptism and I heard Him say “ Follow me, I want you to be baptized, are you convinced yet?” 😜 Took me completely off guard because God knew exactly my personality how to get me to agree to baptism, He literally took away every excuse I had for putting it off and I followed through .

a) do not ignore scriptures such as Acts 2:41, Mark 16:16, Acts 2:38, Titus 3:5, John 3:5, Romans 6:1-7, Galatians 3:26-27, Hebrews 1:1-2
