Is the Holy Spirit a distinct divine Person?

The short answer is “Absolutely”. But He has many names and titles because He has many different ministries. He is introduced to us right at the beginning of the Bible as “the Spirit of God”. And He is found throughout the Bible from Genesis to Revelation. So why does everyone not simply believe that He is God the Holy Spirit? Two reasons (a) Satanic deception and (b) willful blindness.

In the Bible He is called “the Spirit”, “the Holy Spirit”, “the Spirit of God”, “the Spirit of Holiness”, “the Spirit of Truth”, ”the Comforter”, or “the Paraclete”, as well as “the Holy Ghost”.

How did He come to be called “the Holy Ghost”? It would appear that since Martin Luther’s German translation came into existence long before the King James Bible, it did have an influence on the English translation. The German equivalent for “spirit” is “geist” which translates into “ghost”. So it is perfectly accurate to call the Holy Spirit “the Holy Ghost”. Unfortunately the KJV translators failed to consistently capitalize “Holy Spirit” or “Spirit” (where applicable). When it is God the Holy Spirit, it is necessary to capitalize those words, so that there is no misunderstanding.

But how do we know that He is God? Because He has all the attributes of God according to Scripture. Indeed He is the Author of Scripture (2 Timothy 3:16,17; 2 Peter 1:19-21)

Is He a Person who can be vexed? But they rebelled, and vexed his Holy Spirit: therefore he was turned to be their enemy, and he fought against them. (Isa 63:10)

Is He a Person who can be lied to? But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

Is He a Person who can be grieved? And grieve not the Holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.(Eph 4:30)

Is He a Person who can lead another person? And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness (Luke 4:1)

Is He a Person who can cause men to speak foreign languages supernaturally? And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance (Acts 2:4)

Is He a Person who can reveal spiritual truths to men? Which in other ages was not made known unto the sons of men, as it is now revealed unto his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit (Eph 3:5)

One could write a dissertation on the Holy Spirit, but this is more than enough to establish the truth about God the Holy Spirit.

I could think of much better things to do then argue about the holy spirit with myself.

Because all I see here is, your having an argument with yourself, and at same time looking for justification for your own argument, I think the word madness springs to mind. 🤔

I think too many times we try to explain to people what can only be spiritually discerned and experienced.

The Divine Nature of God can not be fully explained or comprehended. So, we must be reverent, and humble when speaking Of the Holy Spirit who is God.

The Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are One. Is someone attmpting to be controversial here? That would be a ploy, dishonest., even possibly a bait and switch. God bless all to deal levelly with each other in the forum.

Anyone who understands the scriptures would have to answer yes. There are a lot of people who claim to understand the scriptures, but their understanding is actually filtered through what they've been taught by others who twist and distort the scriptures.

Read in the Word, both Testaments, exactly what the Father and the Son teach us. Stop quibbling over words and listen for a change, that is read for a change. You have a tendency to teach a my-doctrine-only understanding, lots of "that is correct" or " simply "wrong!" Try to get with the program. Others tolerate a lot here, learn from others.

Tolerance, a word you won't find in the Bible. The Bible is either right or wrong. The OP is either right or wrong. He is right because he is saying exactly what the Word says. It's not his doctrine, it's Bible doctrine, one that Christians ought to know. One God, three persons, the trinity.

The Testaments teach that God is One. Moses ws told by God , "I will be What I will be."
Jesus has taught us that He and the Father are One, not two. I believe it is reasonable to also include His Holy Spirit as being One with the Father and dthe Son. Nowhere is there a doctrinal title in the Word called dthe Trinity.

The concept of the trinity is taught in Word. And yes, it was a very early doctrine of the church. The word rapture isn't in the Bible, it's still there as a concept. Immaculate conception isn't in the Bible, but we believe it happened. Incarnation, understand where I am going. If you don't believe in the trinity, you don't believe in the Word. I know exactly what the Word says. One God, three persons.

The Word in the New Testament refers to God as Jesus Yeshua, The Holy Spirit, and the "Fasther. The words,Trinity, has been applied to the One God by those who believe they understand all about our Maker. Even Isaiah teaches that the child born to Mary would have the titles of Eternal Father, God Almighty, Counselor, Comforter, Ruler of peace, and more. What would be the new name afforded by man for He being all of those titles?? Are we idiots, or worse yet, lost forever because we don not apply a numeric name including all of those titles?
