Yeah, I'm vintage. '78 was a good year.

Great year. I find it funny being this age .. I'm sort of Gen X but almost Gen y. In between. But I relate more to Gen X cos all my brothers are older.

I didnt know there was ' classic rock' music, is there 'rock classical' music?
Or maybe theres rock hymns I dont know. to me rock music is old and dated, while hymns are timeless.

I'd like to find a church where people just play harps and sing. Maybe there is one and I just dont know it. I feel like I dont really belong to any established church and being a first generation christian its like you cant go to one your family goes to since nobody else is christian in your own family. But then you dont really know where to go if you dont know anyone.

Am Gen Y and was born in rather odd time of people thinking it would be the end of the world in 2000 and the millenium was going to come, OR everything was going to be fantastically advanced and we would all be robot slaves. TV was a big part of that mind programming.

Classic rock is like The Sound radio station in NZ. And the Breeze play some. Eg the Eagles, lynyrd skynrd and Led Zeppelin.

Not really a Christian genre altho maybe Crumbacher and Newsboys fit.

I dont listen to much radio at all except radio nz and community radio with certain programs.
I dont like commerical radio, too many ads, so never tune in. The Breeze is ok though. Do you listen to Christian radio eg Life Fm, radio rhema etc?

Not a fan of Life Fm cos I like older music from 70s 80s 90s. I like Star sometimes.. Rhema I find gets a bit charismatic/pentecostal with their christianity. I also find their music a bit sachrine.

I invited a neighbour to this public meeting about rivers (we all live near the creek) as I wanted to hear someone talk about the state of our harbour at the local community centre and I thought she was going fine until she complained loudly to me that the speaker didnt explain what all the names meant in his power point presentation and she couldnt read the names because of her bad eyesight and kept going on about how she didnt know anything cos she wasnt born or grew up here and that the speaker was assuming everyone knew what he was talking bout.

?! I had picked her up and was an evening meeting and was hard to find a park as was busy and we got there a bit late but she kept ranting which was distracting my driving as well.

I thought her being now a resident of my street that she would be interested in the environment and looking after it but she was earbashing me a bit straight after the talk. Now am finding Im reluctant to take her anywhere cos she always tells me I should know everything since I was born here and I shouldnt ask her anything, but then she keeps criticising my homeland. I am trying to be a good host! I only ask her things as shes older than me, but now am wondering why God keeps giving me whinging poms who I have to keep explaining everything patiently to while they complain about everything.

it is social torture to be stuck in a car with someone whos angry and gets road rage. I think next time (if there is one) I will put my christian combat scriputre tape on loud so she wont talk while Im driving. She feels she needs to comment on everything. I also cant take her to the library cos she will keep up her commentary while Im trying to choose books.

I cant tune in to listen as my car is japanese (and old) so the radio bandwith is different. I dont tend to listen to anything at work or at home all the time I like quiet. I know some people just go round with earbuds in their ears all the time.

I like quiet too..but love music.
So usually have it playing in the car.

I find Christian music..

Modern style seems a bit wishy washy. The lyrics sometimes you can apply to any religion. At least any monotheistic one.

For eg.. saying I worship you... And then not mentioning Jesus' name.

Making it so broad it loses deep meaning.

A lot of Hillsong is like that. Just encourages idolatry.

sorry if seems like I am dissing people on here its just I am trying to learn from elder christians examples since my parents arent christians but finding somewhat blind guides when I go to church gatherings etc.

Well dissing Hillsong is common. No big deal there. Especially since they and Bethel have got into trouble with their morals and money management.

A church does not need to water things down or do many concerts. What were the NT churches doing? Being unified in the truth mostly

The church at Corinth seems like an example people want to follow, but we should be looking at Phillipi or Ephesus for faithful churches. Corinth was a cultural melting pot and had problems with misuse of the gifts of the Spirit, abuse of the Lord's Supper and pagan practices.

Corinth was like where I live, and I cant really get away from it.
I have been to smaller towns, but I also know smaller towns have their problems too (everyone knows everyone elses business, narrowmindness, shunning, nothing much to do, drugs and poverty etc) so its not like they are any better just because they are smaller its more the measure of their faith

The mission field is wide open its just there are way too many different church 'options' in the city and mostly people are new believers not ones that have three generations of them and all the traditions that go with that.

Independent churches I find can be a bit prideful on how they are this unique special church though nobody stays in it for long except the pastors own family. Well it is easy to stay in church if you were literally BORN in one. But my born again experience didnt happen in church it was in my own room.

I sometimes say to the Lord am I really part of the body of Christ or am I like a finger nail thats always getting cut off? Or maybe an appendix, that you might not miss or even know its there until starts playing up or something. Like a canary in the goldmine. So do I really need to go and join one

I know some people just go to church in order to get married and then it will be you are obligated to belong because your spouse goes. But I dont think thats a reason to go, maybe I am just too independent?
I was never really raised to be married being a sort of unwanted extra child. Its not like my dad would ever walk me down the aisle since hes never been interested in church anyway.
