I am unable to give short testimonies, so I apologize in advance for the length of this testimony.
My dad was a WW2 vet that fought on the front line in the Philippines for 2.5 years. Upon returning home, he began to hang out with the wrong crowd. He became a heavy and abusive drinker. One night when I was 6 years old, my father was shot at a local convenience store. My grandmother (my dad’s mom) told us that same night my dad was shot, that she was on her knees in her den praying that God would stop my dad’s thirst for alcohol. She told us that she prayed to God that “no matter what the cost, no matter what it takes, take away the thirst from my son and lead him back to your side”. As she was praying this, her phone rang. She knew immediately that it was something terrible, and yet the answer to her prayer. She received the news that her son had been shot earlier that night and was in critical condition, not expected to survive.
Even though I was 6 years old, I remember sitting in the waiting room for days with my mom and grandparents and all of the tearful prayers for my dad.
Through Gods healing hand my father did survive. His doctor said it was nothing short of Gods work.
My dad lived the next 47 years without ever touching another drop of alcohol. He taught me much about the love, grace and forgiveness of God including the life, teaching, love and sacrifice of Gods only begotten son.
God answered my grandmother’s prayer and gave my family a loving Christian father that loved his family and his creator and Savior.
My dad passed in 2014 at the age of 90. I know he is with my mom, brother and sister as they serve and praise God in God’s kingdom.
This was my first real contact with the love of God, His healing and his forgiveness.
Thank you for reading my first testimony posted to this forum.
God bless you all.
