Most evangelistic methods are suited for Extroverts. We Introverts just can't boldly go up to strangers and lay the Gospel on them. It is not how we are made.
I was wondering how you who are Introverts, share the Gospel with others?
Hi
@Aussie52, you've asked a GREAT question!
I've always said that I am an introvert who can masquerade as an extrovert when required. But I am definitely an introvert at heart and can really identify with what you're saying. It seems like there is this belief the the only way we can be effective Christians is to find complete strangers who are unbelievers (bonus points if they're atheists,) and somehow turn them around into crossing that salvation line -- and it seems like a job built specifically for extroverts.
I personally find that people usually move in steps, not leaps. I read a book once explaining that maybe someone is going to become a Christian at Step 27 in their life, and they're at Step 4. Your job might be to just help them get a little closer from Step 3 to Step 4.
And I think it's the same even with lifelong Christians. We're all in the same boat, moving from step to step (across the water!), with only God knowing what our destination is in this life. Your job might be to help encourage a fellow Christian from one step to another, even though they have hundreds more to go.
Have you considered doing what you're doing here? I have found that for myself, writing is my most comfortable way of talking to others about God. Sure, I do a bit in everyday life as well (co-workers, etc.) but writing is really what God seems to have built my introverted self for.
Do you spend time on forums like this, or in chats? That could be a perfect opportunity to connect with people and share matters of faith. Writing doesn't seem natural at first, but it can become easier the more you do it, and things like chats might even feel almost like regular conversation.
I know this method might not be something you're interested in but I just thought I'd mention it... as a fellow introvert. I also like serving behind the scenes. For example, I used to be part of various cleaning teams at the church. This connected me with other believers and allowed me to be able to listen to what was going on in their lives and try to encourage them.
I personally believe that "evangelism" has a very wide scope. You might not be the one who is designed to try to get to someone you don't know to believe in Christ -- but others around you might have that passion and skill, and your job might be to lift them up and give them a kind word to help keep them going. We all have a part to play and some parts are there to hold up the others.
Keep us posted on how you're doing and if you're finding something that works for you.
