Once upon a man left weary,

As I pondered Jesus dearly.

Over scripture poured my thinking,

Heavy eyes had went to blinking.

Still so clearly I remember,

'Twas one late night in December.

Winter outside, cold and frozen,

In my chair I sat there dozin’.

Embers floating from the fire,

Just warmth and reading, my desire.

Thus I nodded, nearly napping,

Suddenly came gentle tapping.

As if someone gently rapping,

Tapping on faith's chamber door,

A broken silence evermore.

“Who had come here after evening?

Late this night, now they are creeping.”

“Who is it out there?”, more and more,

I wondered, at my chamber door.

So I waited with suspicion,

One more sound, just one slight twitchin’.

There I was with close attention,

Not a peep or noise to mention.

Nothing then I heard for moments,

So I calmed with no opponents.

Lurking at my chamber door,

“'Twas the wind and nothing more.”

Then again came louder thumping,

And my body went to jumping.

Lurking just outside my door,

Someone truly not of lore.

So I shuddered, shook, and trembled,

And a ghost my face resembled.

Now my peace was surely shattered,

And my courage torn and tattered.

Panic sent my heart aflutter,

Prompting me to peek through shudders.

“'Tis a creeper,” I expected,

So my mind was poor affected.

Late this night I was uncertain,

So I pulled back just the curtain.

Thump, thump, thump, my vitals raisin’,

At his face I'd soon be gazing.

This stranger at my chamber door,

Taking my peace evermore.

The torments of anticipation,

Has made this thing "a situation."

Finally peeped I through the window,

Moving past the innuendo.

Who was at my chamber door?

The shepherd knocking at my door,

It's only Jesus, no one more.

So I grabbed the door to open,

All my faith and all my hopin'.

Had brought Jesus to my door,

With life to give me evermore.

And the gospel never ceasing,

Still is shouting, ever speaking,

"Prophet," said I, "Jesus calling,

People ever, God is calling."

All throughout the world , is He

Knocking on our chamber door,

Just outside your chamber door. Open up your chamber door

Zz

“Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.”

Thanks for sharing this poem, @Pilgrimshope:) I especially love the personification in these two lines because it so accurately describes the living Word.

Hebrews 4:12 (NKJV):

For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

im so glad you found some joy and heard some of the message I love Hebrews it’s a revelation ‭

It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭6:63‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that heareth my word, and believeth on him that sent me, hath everlasting life, and shall not come into condemnation; but is passed from death unto life.”
‭‭John‬ ‭5:24‬
