Sounds like you should start your own church.

How many members do you think it will have?

I hate the greeting portion of church service! I intentionally come in late every time after that segment. I don't hate people. I just don't like small talk and unnecessary touching like shaking hands with strangers or hugs with acquaintances because you can't really get to know people in a few second - to me it's such a waste of time.

I also hate when you're visiting a church or Sunday school and the pastor or teacher wants you to stand up for being new and everyone looks at you. So eventually, when I do visit a church, I never stand as they request - I don't care if I don't get their freebies, lol! In Sunday school, it's a lot harder because the teacher knows everyone and would know you're new. I just tolerate it since I can't get out of it.

I even did the same thing here. I totally skipped the New Christian Chat Members section and just jumped right into posting into the other subsections.

I prefer to get to know people when in a Bible study group/Sunday school, within a ministry, or any other church gathering.

The social aspects of formal church gatherings can be hard to get used to, depnding on the size of the church too.

Yea embarass the new person/visitor is a common thing. I remember one church I was visiting, they pounced on me and wanted to know EVERY detail of my life. Im just from down the road! Oh no where are you REALLY from? I get they were curious but I dont want to spill my life story right away.

Then the pressure to work/donate/contribute, even if you are unemployed and having a tough time.

Potlucks I am not a fan of either, great if you a 4 star chef, not so great if you dont have a kitchen and expected to come up with something edible..or worse, nobody even eats your dish cos its too foreign.

I just go to a take out and buy several types of food. If no one eats it, I'm quite fine with that - I get to bring it/them home and not have to cook for several days, lol!

Phrase often heard in church...going to church and being a christian is like going to mcdonalds and being a hamburger...

or something that doesnt make any sense...!

The other is the helicopter story. About the man who ask for God for help as he is stranded and has all kind of rescue sent but refuses them because he doesnt see or her directly from God.

Otherwise christian cliches are fun to unpick.

We are not all Ned Flanders. I cant believe that his wife died on the Simpsons, when they killed her off that was the end of the show for me. If I recall, Homer became a Catholic at some point, Lisa got into Wicca, and the First church of Springfield was Presby-lutheran and the Reverend Lovejoy and his wife has a horrid spoilt daughter who got Bart Simpson into serious trouble framing him for stealing money from the collection plate.

Only Maggie survived and she wanted to be baptised by Ned Flanders but Homer prevented it. Marge kept her faith though, even though Homer was pretty much an alcoholic. However he did ask God about stuff even when he didnt believe.
