The gifts were in operation in the early churches. Corinth abused all the gifts & Paul rebuked them for it.
1. No scripture of any kind(especially 1 Cor 13:8-10)says the gifts end.
2. The gifts have always been abused throughout the church age.... but that's no reason to judge others for it.

Speaking in tongues has absolutely nothing to do with "delivering the gospel." When a person speaks in tongues, he is speaking to God, not to people (1 Cor 14:2). He is praying in the spirit (1 Cor 14:15). Speaking in tongues is not a witnessing tool.

Every Christian has the ability to speak in tongues (1 Cor 12:7), and God would like every Christian to do it (1 Cor 14:5).

"Mostly"? What about Acts 2? Acts 19? What about Paul saying (by revelation) that he would like all Christians to speak in tongues? Why, exactly, do you think speaking in tongues is no longer necessary?
He also said not all do. And spoke of different gifts for different purposes to different people.
Also mostly just means mostly, not all, which means there are likely exceptions. Also Acts 2 was about delivering the Gospel.

problem related to praying in tongues

Matthew 6:6
But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Matt 26:36
Then Jesus came with them to a garden called Gethsemane, and he said to his disciples: "Sit down here while I go and pray yonder."

Praying like in Pentecostal / Charismatic Churches violates the teaching of Jesus above.
You have issues with Pentecostals?

Wouldn't speaking in tongues be annoying and off-putting, for people in the congregation who don't do it?!
Which is why Speaking in Tongues in Private Personal Prayer, which edifies the ONE Speaking in Tongues, is the best place to do it.

One other time I did it, because I felt it Necessary. I was with my Grandfather, Pastor and Teacher of Hebrew, was called by a family who attended the Church, around 11 P.M. [Grandpa/Dad/Myself] went to the Emergency. We thought typical Pastor House Call...:ROFL::ROFL:

The family lived in the country on a dirt road with an even rougher mile long drive. Pitch black until you pass the barn and suddenly the front of the house is revealed with a small porch light on. We get there and many people just start coming out the home, all family members. They're trying to warn us about this room and we're just not really understanding. So we follow them and it wasn't long after we got it.

I don't know how to describe what we saw, felt, the thing in that room just felt like water over your pores, smothering. the hairs on my body were like being zapped by 3-phase electricity. a dryness just swallowed the insides of my mouth making hard to talk like choking. We just stood there praying under our breathes. And the youngest one in the room, I just began Speaking in Tongues. The more Bolder I got, the less pressure I was feeling from this entity. Even though, it required speaking the words, Get Thee Behind me Satan in the Name of Jesus, by my Grandfather, we all agreed the Praying in Tongues acted like a Spiritual Warfare Defuser that Edified Grandpa/Dad/Myself and broke the power of the Enemy and the proper Usage of Jesus Name became a Commandment this thing had to obey.

I would not hesitate to do the exact same thing back then today if needed.

He also said not all do.
The overall context of 1 Cor 12-14 is in Christian meetings (cp 1 Cor 11:17ff), and in a Christian meeting not everyone does everything. It is to be done by two or three, and they must interpret. That does not negate that God wants all Christians to speak in tongues (1 Cor 14:5).

And spoke of different gifts for different purposes to different people.
Yes. Again, the context is meetings, and in meetings different people do different things. That does not negate that God wants all Christians to speak in tongues.

Also mostly just means mostly, not all, which means there are likely exceptions.
God wants all Christians to speak in tongues. There are no exceptions to that. We are to pray always with all prayer and supplication in the spirit (Eph 6:18).

Does a person HAVE to speak in tongues? No. But God wants them to.

Also Acts 2 was about delivering the Gospel.
The purpose of the apostles speaking in tongues on the day of Pentecost was not to deliver the gospel. What the others heard were "the wonderful works of God." Peter and those with him heard Cornelius "magnify God." Again, when a person speaks in tongues he is speaking TO God (1 Cor 14:2). In Acts 2, AFTER the apostles spoke in tongues, Peter stood up and began delivering the gospel.

No, the gospel is telling people about Jesus Christ and how they can become saved. Peter did that after the apostles spoke in tongues.
How is Peters sermon not the Gospel that they heard in their own tongue?
Peter's Sermon at Pentecost
Act 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:
Act 2:15 For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.
Act 2:16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;
Act 2:17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:
Act 2:18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:
Act 2:19 And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:
Act 2:20 The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:
Act 2:21 And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.
Act 2:22 Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:

Peter's sermon absolutely was the gospel. The apostles' speaking in tongues prior to Peter's sermon was not the gospel.

Please see my response to Beckie. When the apostles had finished speaking in tongues, Peter preached the gospel to the people.

Says what? That the apostles' speaking in tongues was not the gospel? See 1 Cor 14:2. When a person speaks in tongues he is speaking TO God. Speaking to God is not speaking the gospel.

No! Where does it say he was not speaking in tongues so they could understand the Gospel he was preaching?

Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:

Peter had stopped speaking in tongues and began speaking to them in his known language. He knew what he was saying. When a person speaks in tongues, he does not understand what he is saying:

1 Cor 14:2 For he that speaketh in an unknown tongue speaketh not unto men, but unto God: for no man understandeth him; howbeit in the spirit he speaketh mysteries.

So does speaking in tongues mean that you're speaking English, or is it your own personal language? Sorry, but I don't know anything about it.
