That's a pretty broad question. When considering worship/praise as a single issue, I recall the very first statement in the Westminster Shorter Catechism:

Q. 1. What is the chief end of man?
A. Man’s chief end is to glorify God, and to enjoy him for ever.

To glorify God is to reveal him to others so they too may learn of his Holy nature. Worship and praise is one way we glorify God the Father. There are, of course other ways to glorify God as well. These other ways are the First and Second Testaments.

I know this is an unsatisfactory reply but I do feel when we worship and praise God, we are taking a step forward to glorifying and enjoying our creator Father. Maybe it's often our first step.

This is not at all an unsatisfactory reply. It is very helpful .thank you.

Yes. Especially on what it is not, most instructive in this era of Hillsong and similar.

You mean like stripping down to your boxers and then begin ballet dancing and flipping around...

...like King David, a man after God's Own heart and lineage of the Messiah..did, as the Ark of the Covenant was in eyesight?

King David also committed adultery and murder. What David did in celebration is not necessarily a pattern that the church needs to follow. David did not wear boxers. He was starkers under his clothes. Imagine a couple of thousand churchgoers doing likewise....... no thanks.

"But everything must be done in a proper and orderly manner." 1 Corinthians 14:40

And God sent the Priest to David and dealt with David over Bathsheba and sins.

But, do you know what God did not have the Priest do?
Condemn David of how he worshiped Yahweh.
In all of David's forms of Worship, God was so pleased, that's why God said, "David was a man after God's Own heart."

Interestingly enough there is not a lot of teaching and preaching on this subject at least compared to other topics.

Of course this will only do so much as praise and worship is not something that can be taught it is an experience between you and God a bonding between us and him it's not something that any amount of knowledge or scripture can reveal.

True worship is something that comes from deep deep inside it's not just singing and giving honor with our lips anyone can do that but when you do so from the very depths of your soul when worshipping him brings a life and joy that makes you like a giddy child again that is the kind of worship that has power that is the kind that God will boast of you for.

Abd sometimes it isn't even a song you sing it can easily be the affection you have for him or the honor you hold in your heart for him it can be a prayer of thanksgiving there is no one way to go about it the point to him is where it comes from

The heart speaks louder than any words ever could and sometimes we dopn't have the word to speak I have gotten to the point where in worship I wabted to give him more honor and praise than I could muster than I even had in me I only saw in my minds eye the vast endless universe filled with honor worship and praise to him a vast endless void filled with the praise and honor of the Lord however even saying this to him simply didn't do him justice all I could do was give him this in the form of of something that had no words or sound but it was like the holy spirit himself spoke the words I couldn't.

I've heard a lot of false teaching on it. They say it's the key to spiritual warfare; that it puts Satan on the run. However, Jesus never fought Satan with praise and worship; He fought him with the written word of God.

Well it can be an effective weapon in spiritual warfare as well as scripture but that isn't the purpose of worship and praise

John 4:23-24

New International Version

23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in the Spirit and in truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth

in spirit and in truth this is the kind of worship that he desires not merely worship or lip service but in spirit and truth if people were to question what it means to worship in spirit and truth they likely could come up with an answer but in the end it is something that cannot be taught only experienced

On the one hand you say praise and worship can be an effective weapon in spiritual warfare, and on the other you say that isn't it's purpose. So why use it as a weapon of spiritual warfare if that's not its purpose?

Yes I have heard preaching on this. Different denominations tend to find different ideas or theologies more or less important. I think which church a person is in will impact the answer to your questions.

If you have experience in spiritual warfare you know that it is no picknic it can get very brutal and sometimes though it is not it's original purpose you have to drown the enemy in praise and worship not only are you giving him honor and praise by worshipping him in the face of battle but believe me the demons cannot stand to hear him being praised when they are attacking not only is it like nails on a chalk board to them but it defeats their battle strategy because the attack in question is supposed to be about you the focus is to be on you the attack the hardship you have to endure basically as long as your focus is on anything but him they will find success but when you make him the point of the situation and your to lost in worship to him to be bothered by the enemy they are left powerless

well it wasn't knowledge or wisdom that brought me to the key of worship I had the knowledge of it but wow when he was like let me show what worship rreally is the knowledge I had of worship was made insanely real.

When we talk about praise and worship it is usually in a way that makes it seem like that is all it is just praise and worship but it is so much more than that and the life that fills you up the joy that it brings how you cannot help but dance as you are in deep communion with God.... It is something that brings a certain truth to you a revelation and a new found connection with him.

Then you should be able to refute it easily then.
It's not even worth refuting. It's like refuting the moon is made of green cheese.

"Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest you also be like him.
Answer a fool according to his folly,
Lest he be wise in his own eyes." Proverbs 26:4-5
